Totally agree. Returns was always my favourite growing up. Even though it wasnt "accurate" if you like, it was very burton and it had batman, two of my favourite things combined.
Here's a man that "gets" it.
A lot of people that don't like the movie think that Penguin is too gruesome and not in keeping with the comic book character. And he isn't. But he's 100% Burton, as is the movie.
As a huge Burton fan, and a lover of Batman, that's a winning combination.

Returns' Batman is a killer. Other than the first few issues of the comics in the 40s, Batman has very clearly had a rule not to kill. That alone makes Returns inaccurate to me. I still like the movie though.

Now we can begin with ruling out some of the many misconceptions!
About batman killing, its seems (I am no real batman fan, but I did some research of my own now) that Batman DID kill in the beginning days
So there goes one misconception about a batman that never killed on purpose

Here are some facts that will make so called "real batman fans and specialists" shiver down their spine I can imagine! ...since for many of the fans, Batman Returns is conceived as not being a Batman film because it is not true to the comics.

And to end with a personal favorite as a movie fan in general
Whether it is faithful or not is irrelevant. In the long run, I being faithful to comics has anything to do with a quality movie. Being faithful to the source and quality are two completely different things which do not affect each other. The great late Stanley Kubrick's The Shining had little to do with the actual book, yet it's a masterpiece. However at the time of the release it fell victim of this misguided criticism, just like Batman Returns
So here ya go, Batman Returns is a TRUE BATMAN MASTERPIECE that didn't deserve so many of the negative critics it had to deal at the time of its release and even today.
On the other hand, its also a fact that this movie has a special place among certain people and you could even talk about a cult following.

If I take my DX02 and film him for 30 seconds doing his famous one pose and slap it up on YT, would you consider that a "real batman movie"......pleaseeeee....just for me......

I wouldn't go so far as to call Batman Returns not a real Batman movie - it very much feels like a Batman movie to me, just a really stylized and weird one, I like it, but I would rate the Batman movies as follows...
1. Begins / TDK - I love them equally, sometimes I like one better, sometimes the other.
2. Batman 89
3. Returns
4. Forever... semi poop
5. B&R... poop
I wouldn't go so far as to call Batman Returns not a real Batman movie - it very much feels like a Batman movie to me, just a really stylized and weird one, I like it, but I would rate the Batman movies as follows...
