Re: HT Batman 1989 Coming
Oh yeah, I love Batman Returns. In fact I'd say of the six Batman films to date, Returns is the most emotionally involved. The Penguin is a tragic character, as well as Catwoman. As a kid the final scene with Penguin would always get to me, and even now when I watch it the music gives me goosebumps.
I also like that whole "animal people" aesthetic that the film contains. "The Bat, The Cat and the Penguin". I also like how the villains, in this case Catwoman and Penguin, mirror Batman/Bruce Wayne's personality.
Parred with the visual effects, soundtrack, and art direction (I'm not a huge fan of Burton really, but the black and white/snow covered Batman emblem/Gotham is a great touch), Batman Returns is one of my favorite Batman films. It resonates with me as a "Batman movie", a film, and a piece of childhood.
It's not my favorite Batman film but then again, I really don't have a favorite.
In fact,
My list is similar except four (Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight) of them are interchangeable. For instance, in the last couple of months I've been in "Batman '89 mode", even before this Hot Toys announcement. Other times I'm interested in a good origin story, I watch Batman Begins. It just depends on what mood I'm in.
Before TDK came out, I always felt Begins was my favorite, then around the time of TDK hype I went back and "rediscovered" Batman '89 and it was my favorite because of that whole "Batman vs. Joker on film" dynamic. Then of course the trailers, the actual film, and promotion of TDK made IT my favorite for a few years.
I'm a huge Batman fan, and can watch and enjoy any of them really. While Batman Forever doesn't rank as high as the other four, I still can appreciate and watch it.
"If I'm going to have a favorite Batman film, I prefer it to be multiple choice!"

I would rate the Batman movies as follows...
1. Begins / TDK - I love them equally, sometimes I like one better, sometimes the other.
2. Batman 89
3. Returns
4. Forever... semi poop
5. B&R... poop
