That's not correct. This is how the Ultimates Nick Fury was drawn in Ultimate Marvel Team Up and early issues of Ultimate X-Men:

SLJ specifically gave consent for Marvel to use his likeness in their redesign of the Fury for The Ultimates. The similarity is even noted within the Ultimates #1, in a scene in which the Ultimates discuss who they think should play each of them in a hypothetical movie about the team. Fury's answer for himself is "Mr. Samuel L. Jackson, of course, no discussion."

That is the joke, it isn't old and was thrown in specifically to acknowledge SLJ for allowing Marvel to use his likeness. There was no film clause or anything to the like but he was quoted in saying that he'd love to actually play Nick Fury, the character that was being written he was following and Marvel approached him directly since at the time the Ultimates universe was one of their best sellers.

This is one of the many reasons I hate Sam Jackson. Just weasels his way into projects. Did it with Star Wars if I'm not mistaken. Also using his star power to disallow a name change for Snakes On a Plane. I know it's just Snakes On a Plane, but what kind of ass hole actor does these things? People need to start telling this guy to ____ off.

It says Marvel approached him...

If you like the Ultimates Universe, I suppose. I'd rather have the hard nosed original codger :dunno

Well I like that version too...I just think this one fits into the movies better and is more believeable. Plus, who would play the other version?

Semantics. He's still a ****** bag:

His ego is also the reason purple lightsabers exist :lol

the prequels is a mess from all fronts and you nitpick about the existence of a single color of a lightsaber? hehe...

marvel the comic approached jackson to use his likeness. then marvel the movie studio approached jackson to play the character for the film. now they're taking jackson out without first letting him know(it's called common courtesy) and he has to find out from the media.how is jackson the *********? marvel studio is well known for being a cheap bastard and a backstabber. that's why ed norton got dumped and then marvel badmouthed him in the media, that's why favreau is not coming back to direct ironman 3(his salary as a director has gone way up).

yup. that one too. terrance howard was dumped and then badmouthed in the media by marvel, much to his surprise. the same treatment ed norton got. and now again with jackson. marvel studio has only existed for a few years and already they cemented their reputation as a cheap and backstabbing studio.

what about Tom Jane? he made a pretty cool Punisher!

I'm surprised not many people know or remember the David Hasselhoff Nick Fury movie. Yeah it was a long time ago but yeah. Here it is:
