Just gave the episode a 2nd viewing. Although I did enjoy it more this time, I think all my criticisms and those raised by others in this thread are still valid.
Looking forward to the next episode so I suppose the episode did its job in that regard.
Episode 2 onwards really needs to step it up though.
I still have faith that Jon, Dave and Robert will deliver a great season overall but they've got a lot to prove on this one.

I wholeheartedly agree with your take on how his escape should have been played but the episode didn't take place 30 years after ROTJ since his post-Sarlacc appearance in Mando was five years after ROTJ. My guess is that his escape occurred within hours or days of the barge exploding especially if it hadn't even been picked over by jawas when he crawled out.
I meant 30(ish) years since the beginning of the Empire. Meaning the Stormtrooper could've been down there decades by this point.

As for figures, just a feeling, I think loads of people will be wanting a Flashdance Twi'lek by the end of the season. She's definitely going to play a much bigger part and looks amazing. The same goes for the Tusken Chief and his lady, loved their designs. We'll get at least another episode with those two. I'm up for a couple of Tusken variants in the collection. Also, I think the Gamorreans look good enough to warrant a purchase if they release those.

Noticed how many time Boba got knocked out on my first watch so I kept a tally on the second viewing with the wife:lol

Show starts off with him sleeping in bacta,
Continues with him passed out in the Sarlacc,
passes out again after the Sarlacc escape,
gets knocked out by Jawas,
passes out being dragged by Tuskens,
Knocked out by the Tusken kids,
Knocked out by Tusken Warrior,
Gets beat up by ninjas and asks to go back to Bacta to sleep.

Personally tired of tentacled characters in rainbow shades, but I'd buy if I was really into the character.

Did like the Tusken variants tho at this point worry about sandpeople being over-used and demystified too. The whole thing was a cliche of white man raised by Native Americans thing, which I wasn't expecting at all.

Was never a huge Boba fan, but did like his reappearance in Mando. Tough, spare of words, no one to mess with, but honorable in his way. I've got less invested in this show, willing to go along for the ride. Not sure if I will keep my Monk Boba PO or not. Might have been best to keep the character to appearances in Mando - less is more. It's early yet tho.

Yeah, but think some of the problem was editing/pacing. Scenes that should have gone on longer didn't, other scenes were just - dunno, flat. Like the shield fight to me felt like it was just - slow. There was no edge to anything. It was hard for me to feel any weight to needing to go back to the bacta tank when I couldn't feel that Boba was that messed up.

We don't know how long did he stayed inside Sarlacc, do we?

Anyway, I agree Sarlac escape seemed like an easy thing.

Regarding his character change (honor, respect, etc), it maybe due to his experience with the Tuskens which we'll probably see further. However, this does not explain his less ruthless behavior during Tusken enslavement.

Speaking of editing, I find the fight scene with the shield guys very weird. Maybe they are trying to show various moves from different angels but it felt like they hit Fennec five times in the same spot when they were surrounded. Boba also got clotheslined twice in the same second I just find it weird.

I'm late to the discussion but basically in agreement with just about every post made so far. My 10 points:

1. Episode was way too short and not as impactful as it should have been.
2. The taming of the Fett is not good. This wasn't exactly our classic Fett. I truly hope for his "full" return.
3. TM should have been put on a stringent diet/exercise plan once it was decided that he was returning in Mando, let alone having his own show.
4. From what I've seen so far, Fennic should be running the new syndicate... (Could Disney be going all blue-haired Holdo here?...)
5. Loved the Gamorrean duo.
6. The new Tuskens were cool.
7. While watching the episode, what kept running through my mind was, "I'd like a figure of that... I don't care for that as a figure.."
8. Someone nailed it earlier by saying that the Sarlacc Pit escape flashback should have been extended further, to make it more epic.
9. Why the heck did Fett and Fennic walk into town sans weapons?? That alone defied Star Wars logic, especially in Tatooine.
10. With just 6 episodes left, Favreau and Friends really have to do better.

Bonus "11": I need to re-watch the episode and perhaps lessen my critiques afterwards...

YOU DARE compare Fennec and Holdo...?!! FOR SHAME :cautious:

Actually I think they were trying to be nice, on the way to the DMV I mean, the casino. Nice and approachable. Buckets off. Not too smart, though. You'd think Fett would be savvy enough by now to know that enemies are everywhere, and especially when there is a power vacuum. And he's in the middle of that vacuum.

I am about to re-watch myself. Its hard, though to watch characters I care about be physically abused. It makes me uncomfortable. I felt the same watching Mando go through his various agonies. I know, I am weird.

EU Boba would have killed the Rhodian, probably killed the kid and might have killed half the Tusken encampment, once he was well-hydrated enough. The "dog"....? Dead. He would have killed any and everything, taken a bantha and got the eff out. I'm rather torn about this. Part of me likes him just that ruthless, part of me is interested in this new Fett.

Assuming he was at the same power level as he is now. Does that mean if he's healed he can totally own Koska?

He could easily have owned Koska. He found her bull**** amusing, and so he declined to go there. But could he have...? Definitely. Hell, he indirectly threatened Bo-Katan herself.

Rewatching this earlier today a couple points hit me harder this time; why is Boba so naive towards the crime world when he was the best bounty hunter in the galaxy? Fennec is comfortable in this world and knows what to do, but Boba should too.
Why go wondering through town without weapons? Why hand over his helmet (I thought his armour was beloved to him)? Why not use his jetpack when ambushed?
Is he trying to be more mellow and "honourable"? He was still pretty brutal in Mando season 2. Doesn't seem very Boba here.
It's weird, as if the story was written with another character in mind or something.

I actually am into this quicker than I was into the mandalorian. Maybe because tattooine is my favorite star wars location.

Have to call it what it is, Favreau, Rodriguez, and Morrison really fumbled this. The first episode is worse than I ever imagined it would be. Can be summed up with two simple bullet points 1) The fabled Sarlaac Escape scene was a huge underwhelming disappointment and 2) This Morrison "Boba Fett" doesn't look or feel like Boba Fett at all.

Fumbling the Sarlacc pit escape will sting the longest. They can always make Fett cool in a future episode but the Sarlacc escape was a one time event that will forever leave a bad taste in our mouths (no pun intended.)

Dude is 61 and has a particular body type. There's tons to nitpick about the show, but thinking TM is out of shape isn't one of them. He shorter and stockier than Bullock and others who wore the suit but he's anything but out of shape. Blame Lucas for making Boba a clone of Jango if you want to blame someone for that.

Completely agree. If nothing else I thought Favreau(the guy behind the Krayt Dragon episode) would see to it that the Sarlaac Escape was over the top epic. I can't believe they settled on the lame scene we got and felt it was sufficient. I want a redo.
