Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

Well. So far I only got a Mech Test Tony Stark and the Mk IV. Also I'll have to pay my Batman DX12 and the MkVII soon. So, uh, I don't think there's any danger of me buying the 7 piece hall of armor any time soon.

But if I had the money... yes, yes, definitely. I'd have all the armors and all the halls of armor *____________*

Me too buddy :1-1: If price was no issue, i would get two sets of seven, these are the reason why i buy all the iron man armor suits, one of my favorite things about iron man has always been his hall of armor, its incredibly cool and you could have an amazing hot toys display with every armor from all the new movies and even some project ones if you wanted in hall of armor cases, the more the merrier with iron man armors. Unfortunately you would also need a small fortune with how they have priced these and their figures steadily going up, so as much as i want these i will have to hold off and pray they drop the price significantly

You can contact Dave (owner/administrator) and see if you can post some of the things you're selling in the Dealers section here.

Yeah, thanks for the suggestion but first I need to learn how to post pics on this site hehe!!

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

anyone know how much the Iron Man license cost Hot Toys?

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

That's something they don't brag about.

Earlier I argued whether HT would still flog these at around the same price if they were to call it differently without involving the Iron Man franchise because these armour caskets are not copyrighted (design-wise) or would they sell them cheaper and I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter. Because apparently HT made this due to fans demanding them.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

if the Hall of Armor are not copyrighted then anyone can make them without having the licenses.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

True you can make them. You can even sell them.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

hope someone bootleg the Hall of Armor and sell them for $30 each!! It won't be hard to do!

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

Bootlegging something that has been made by others isn't legal though. Disney/Marvel may not have the copyrights to these, but Hot Toys do. Make them somewhat different, then it's safe.

I think I missed the part where someone decided these aren't copyrighted by Marvel or Disney. How did someone come to that conclusion?

They said 'if' it wasn't copyrighted.

Good point. Different movie (producer & exec. producer) different legal context. Most producers only copyright the most prominent items and only in term of likeness in very GENERAL manner. That is to say that they don't list the props they want copyrighted. For that they require different legal forms. Which is why for most movies, the copyrighted items would be the costumes and characters likenesses. That's as far as I know from personal experience dealing with paperwork for documentaries (different cattle of fish, granted).

I also take it for granted that that is the case with HoA. Because it's not something new. You may argue that they look similar to armour caskets from other sci-fi movies etc. Another case we can use is Jurassic Park. Can Amblin or Universal copyright T-Rex as their character? I think not.

Which is why I said that you can make and sell your own HoA but you can't make it with the same design as the movies, because HT's got the rights to that.

Interesting. I would have assumed that most props and set centerpieces like the HOA would be copyrighted, particularly in such a franchise that produces copious amounts of toys and collectibles. Regardless, I don't think Hot Toys would even consider making a slightly altered HOA and sell it without paying a royalty to Marvel/Disney. I suspect they were awarded the license and it can be retracted very easily if they pulled crap like that. Besides, who would want it, even for a slightly lower price, if it was designed to be inaccurate? And while Amblin doesn't own the T-Rex as an animal, I bet if someone like Harsbro mass-produced T-Rex toys in an iconic pose from Jurassic Park, using similar colors, and obviously Jurassic Park-inspired packaging, then they're have grounds to fight it.

Have you seen Papo's T-Rex? There are two versions, 1st one is very similar to the pose at the original movie's finale and the 2012 repaint mimics the colour from that movie well, 2nd version looks very Lost World-ish in terms of design and colour. Both of them use JP's design and they are not licensed. As long as they don't mention Jurassic Park, they're safe.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

Meanwhile, the HOA has the names, "Iron Man" and "Marvel" written all over it. I'm pretty sure HT has the license for this.

Agreed.

The points yongkykun make are interesting. Remember those environments that sideshow released a while back, particularly Reactor Station Alpha? Clearly designed to look like a portion of the Death Star, however it didn't read Star Wars, Lucasfilm, or anything (nice originality for the Sideshow Originals line :rolleyes2). It still strikes me as a grey area and it must be a licensing nightmare, not to mention a significant cost consideration for the company and the fans.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

You can go to toy stores anywhere and you'll notice that there are a lot of toys from various movies that don't have ™ or ® stuck to their names. Which means that they are not registered or licensed as intellectual property. But because they have been made by their respective companies, be it Hasbro or Mattel or Hot Toys, the likeness of these items belongs to that particular company, not the movie studio. That's what I was trying to explain.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

In regards to licensing, I doubt HT would offer an unlicensed object at this point. They are now main stream enough that property owners are going to notice. If they have the likeness rights to Iron Man they can't simply release something from the movie without it and claim its not.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

No, of course not.

Re: Hot Toys - DS001A-C - Iron Man 2: 1/6th scale Hall of Armor Collectible Specs & P

I'm usually a predator a guy but I just popped in to say that this thing is a work of art. Love the holographic transparent sticker pieces that show the armor data.
