Thank you. The power cord option works great. But was bummed they didn't power the panels. I put a motion detector on it so it lights up automatically when entering home office. Highly recommend that.

I got the HOA 7 set today and I'm not sure if there's previous post or it suppose to be like this but is it suppose to be in 3 different shades of grey?

I'll take closer look at mine and get back to you. At a glance, no way. Not like that. Fair case to take to SSC and ask them wth. Justifies an exchange too. What a pain though. Tip since you just got those: do not use a power adapter that exceeds the 4.5v the insert quickly denotes. You WILL blow the LEDs. Happened to one of mine and had to order new one on my own dime. I had a 5v hooked up to a daisy chain set up thinking that would be ok. It was not. HOAs are amazing IMO so congrats. Really cool looking and solve the answer "oh man what pose am I going to put this guy in". Ha.

That stinks definitely some mixing going on with the panels. Did you get a 7 piece or did you buy a different lot to make the ones you have?

Bought the set of 7.. Don't know if it's suppose to be darkest to the lightest.. Lol but since lukewm says his is all 1 makes me think otherwise..

I bought the set of 7 and all of mine are a uniform gray color. I haven't noticed any other sets with inconsistent coloring but if it bothers you I would at least mention it to the place from which you ordered. These are too expensive to not be 100% satisfied. You never know, you may get a partial refund or something.

That's a great idea. Do you know what type of sensor you hooked up to the lights?

Oh nice, I was looking through Amazon last night to find one I could solder in to an existing display I have but didn't see anything that I thought would work. I'll have to make my way out to the stores.

I bought a set of 4 of these to tinker with and I have an idea of how you can power everything with a single AC adapter.

We all know that the bases are electrically interconnected so one set of batteries or 1 ac adapter will power every interconnected bay.

The problem is that the walls have to be wired individually.

I have noticed that most are using a second converter to power them.

Since they are 4.5 volts you should be able to plug an adapter cord into any of the interconnected bays to provide 4.5v power to some sort of buss bar system.

You could actually use a buss bar or it could be as simple as using a wire nut to secure all of the positives to the positive wire of the adapter cord and the same for the negatives.

That way you could use a single switch to control the entire set up.

The buss bar is a good idea, I would get a 8-10 gang to give you space, there's a lot of wires on the side walls and could give you expansion room as we'll to light up the platform from the Tony Stark figure. Must be sure to hang in the 4.5v cause the electrical guts in the HOA are cheap as they come and you'll fry LEDs out pretty easily with routing up higher voltage. Which might not be a bad thing considering how dim the wall LEDs are on the HOA anyway.

The buss bar isn’t really the innovative part of my concept.

Drawing power from an interconnected units 4.5 volt jack with an adapter cord is what will make this worth doing.

If this works, one 4.5v power supply will run the entire display.

I already have a cord I cut off an old phone charger that plugs into the jack on the HOA. I’m going to buy a 4.5v adapter tomorrow and see if the power is transferred to the jack of an adjacent bay.

If it is, I will use your dowel concept to wire up the walls and then I’ll hook 2 units together and power everything with single 4.5v adapter

I did some testing on this tonight and one 4.5vdc power supply will run everything

I started with an 8 position buss bar and an 8 position jumper strip. I cut the jumper strip in half and attached the halves to the buss bar, this gives you 8 places to connect to for the power and 8 for the ground. Then I attached this to the back of the middle bay with 2 sided tape.


Then I took an old converter that had a plug the fit the bay’s jack and I cut the converter off. I plugged this into the middle bay’s 4.5vdc jack and ran it to the buss bar. I cut it to length and put some ring terminals on it so I could easily attach it to the left side center power and ground terminal of the buss bar.

I didn’t have a 4.5vdc power converter so I just taped 3 D cell batteries in series and ran some wires to the right side center power and ground terminals. This will work for this test but once I have a 4.5vdc power supply I’ll replace it.

I turned the bases on and they all worked

The I wired up each wall similar to Hokietwo’s dowel rod method except I used screws instead of thumb tacks.

As I wired up each wall I ran the wires to the buss bar and connected them to make sure they worked. Sometimes I would have to loosen the screw to make contact on the positive terminal of the wall unit.

It took a couple hours to do 3 bays but I had a lot of trial and error.

This would work for any number if bays and if you had a lit figure base in close proximity to the buss bar you could run power to it as well.

Then everything could be controlled with one switch.

Most of our house is remote controlled so I will be able to control it from my smart phone




My wife found a cool place for a large set of these, probably up to 13, but for now I need to get at least 7 more bays


I like my 1/12 HOA so I may use this display for my favorite armors.

Today I bought some more terminal lugs and tie strap blocks and cleaned up the install.
