Y'know, I think HT makes some wonderful figures. I really do. But I find this blind faith in the infallibility of HT coupled with the lack of confidence in SSC to produce a kick-ass Vader to be a little unsettling. Yep, the SSC ANH Vader had some issues, namely the tallness of the helmet, the height of the figure, and the cape. I'm sure SSC has received the message from collectors and will produce a Vader nothing less than perfect the next time round. The have upped their game in 2011. And HT stumbles sometimes. The Indy likeness was...let's not go there. Thor and Cap were "meh". Batman Begins exclusive was a disappointment in execution (mainly due to QC problems, but the cape sucks hard, also). And QC had been an issue with HT of late: wonky PERS, snagging fabric, crooked emblems, broken ankles/hips, paint rubs on portraits, wrists that fall out - all right out of the box. I know these things happen, but in the last half of 2011, they happened a LOT. There's even been debate in this thread about the likeness of HT's Luke. Yet the fans of Hot Toys clamor for a HT Vader - let's give SSC a shot, shall we? (Like we have a choice, anyway...) When HT gets things right, we get a DX Jack Sparrow, and when SSC gets things right, we get a Commander Cody. For their price points, each was top notch. I think we're in for good times ahead!

I think you'll find this attitude is largely due to many SW fans having the inability to express their opinions about things in any other way than "Extremely Awesome" and "Total Crap". I think they are quality blind to all the shades in between. :lecture

Total crap can be extremely awesome!

And no Vader will be perfect. Whether from SS or HT. What H figure is perfect really? Sparrow -- even Sparrow has an incorrect jacket color. No figure is a perfect representation -- someone's opinion of 'perfection' is just that.

Here is the slightly longer version.

Hasbro has the Star wars toy licenses.

Sideshow has a Sub-license from Hasbro to make 1/6th scale collector figures.

Hasbro takes a cut of sideshow's profits on every figure made.

HOt toys has a Sub-Sub license for 1/6th scale collector figures through Sideshow.
Sideshow not only takes a cut on every Hot toys figure made, they also have a say in what figures hot toys can make.

Additionally, Hot toys has ALREADY stated they will not do ANY Figures of characters that sideshow has recently released, is currently developing, or has plans to develop in the near/immediate future.

They plan to Focus on characters sideshow has Little to no interest in doing, or Have ALREADY made figures of in the past who could do with an updated version, Such as ESB Luke.

Hence, we can infer from this, that it will Likely be 5-10 YEARS before we see a Darth Vader From hot toys.

Personally, I really like the Vader figure from A New Hope. Yeah, he's bigger than Hot Toys Predator figures, but he's got robot parts.

I know my discrimination for detail is not nearly as high as that of some Star Wars fans, but I look at my Sideshow Darth Vader, and am always happy that I purchased him. I'm sure their Empire/ROTJ version will be even better.

I would love an Anakin/Vaderkin figure set ala Bespin Luke. 1 figure for Jedi Anakin, and 1 Sith Anakin with battle damaged clothes and alternate sith eyes headsculpt.

Well, if HT is only doing one SW figure a year, I figure there are going to be plenty of years in the next decade that SSC isn't making a Darth Vader.

I am looking forward to seeing what HT possibly does with figures I thought was lackluster the first time. I think SSC's worst was the Bespin Han Solo so it would be cool to see a better version.

i'd rather they released them separately honestly...I already want to get rid of one of the Lukes, dont need both, especially since one if of him half dead for only a couple minutes in the film

Actually, he was hardly ever clean in the movie.

right, but I dont need two separate outfits, heads, bodies, etc....

I regular body with dirtied gear would be fine for me...maybe removeable forearm like T800...but not two complete figures...
