I think that, in general, everyone's standards have gotten ridiculously high.

This was Hot Toys' Robert Downey Jr. sculpt just a few years ago:

But that's not really the point.

Constant quality improvements is to be expected and welcomed.

However, quality drops on newer sets, not so much.
How about compare sparrow to Gordon or Hugo? :(

Rescue cap, yeah, that one's not so good.

Hugo is one of the worst offenders IMO.

:dunno

Anyway let's hope this isn't a victim. Keaton bats was amazing (faceplates).

I have the Bespin Luke DX Pre-ordered but all I really want is the Dagobah Vader severed head. If anyone would like to save some money on this by just selling me the DX Vader sculpt when you get this in hand, please let me know. I'm willing to pay a good price for it and help you save on the entire offering. Please pm me. Thanks

I might be selling mine.

Let's hope Luke doesn't suffer the same soft sculpt issue which has almost ruined a lot of HT releases this year. Capt America, Gordon, hawkeye, Sam Jackson, red skull all lost a load of sculpted detail and look quite plastic & soft. Hoping for something better cause it's a DX.

Sorry but I think you are talking absolutely rubbish!:slap:slap

Here are the following reviews from Michael Crawford reviews who is one of the best in the business.

And always very very honest in his reviews!!

RED SKULL

The Hugo face is outstanding, exhibiting the kind of realism that we've come to expect from every Hot Toys portrait. The skin and hair detail is amazing, and the eyes are so realistic it's spooky.

Lt. Jim Gordon

This is one of those Hot Toys sculpts where you could easily mistake a photo of the toy for a photo of a real person.

It's not just about looking realistic though - it has to look like the actor and character as well. Hot Toys has nailed both, creating one of my favourite likenesses in awhile.

Enough said!!

Always a major killjoy!!:dunno

The "Soft Sculpt" issue has been discussed ad nauseum before. The prototypes are sculpted with very high details but some of the detail is "lost" when they are recast during the production process, hence the "softness" of the final in-hand product.

What I've come to realize is that you have to actually have the figure in hand and judge for yourself not from other people's in hand photos, I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the red skull sculpt but when I finally got the figure in hand I was pleasantly surprised by the great detail.

oh wow, didn't mean to kick off a storm here....just thought I was making a casual observation. Sorry for the thread derail guys....

Whaaaaaat??? Really???? Some more pics...just do not see how it compares to these sculpts by Hot toys.

but ah, going by the pics you put up yourself as proof that the HT DX Luke is better than the SS PF Jedi Luke .....well I still think those very pics show the Jedi Luke PF is a better sculpt.

Yes the HT one is better made, better texture and better paint apps.
The SS is more accurate to Mark Hamill though so to me it wins....

That was my point really! Every figure I have ever got is just ten times better in hand. And also no one has the prototype in hand to review so what is the big deal?:dunno

I always go off in hands reviews and word of mouth.

Thanks for your personal insight.

Yes, exactly. And recently it has been widely discussed that there has been quite a considerable drop in detail of those recasts. I have quite a few of them myself so I can confirm that problem. HT have tried to counteract the issue by adding more paint/detail which has resulted in some very soft head sculpts. The sets mentioned above have all a similar look in hand. A vinyl look which is new to HT.

Any way lets hope Luke is a Sparrow not an Indy.
:lol

Why do you only want the Vader head?

Im still stunned HT is including two full figures for this price. If anything I thought it would be something like the T-1000. Two different outfits and two different head but one body and one belt. Still haven't decided where Im getting this though. Not SS that's for sure.

Agreed, it's a good deal and I doubt we'll see it repeated with the Solo DX. I'm OK with a bit of a price bump as long as it fits what we're getting with the overall package, but I hope HT doesn't try and gouge us on the next release. That damn Tamashii 3PO sure isn't helping in that regard, I have to say (even though I'll be buying one).

Since what we are getting is so good for the money (relatively speaking) I have a very strong feeling that one of 2 things will happen with the next figure

1. Luke will serve as bait to get us hooked and the price will increase considerably

2. Price will remain about the same, but added value pieces (2nd full figure and outfit, large light up base) will go away.

Now, if the next figure is Han, I could easily see it coming with a Carbonite Han and/or even a torture rack. Will I be able to afford it? Who knows, Luke is a stretch for me.
