Don't get me wrong -- I'm a big Batman fan -- I got into Hot Toys collecting because of Batman figures, and I PO'd DX12 from day 1 as it would be my first TDK suit Hot Toy, but I won't call it or would ever have voted for it as figure of the year.
I don't hate it as much as Tyrannus7 seems, but I don't love it as much as my other HTs, and in my opinion it's an overrated figure, even more so when it won FOTY in various 1/6 and action figures groups and award-giving bodies. I think one of its edges over its competitions for the award is that people where already having fangasms over anything Nolan Batman then, and the fact that the polls were done and the awards were given just in time when almost everyone were going giddy over DX12 as they just got theirs in-hand -- and we know how it is whenever most people get a new toy in their hands-- "FOTY for me!", "Best HT ever!", "Best Nolan Batman --no -- Batman figure to date!" etc -- and so it's what they voted for under that category.
it was just a few months earlier and people must have already forgotten the more brilliant 1989 Batman and Joker figures, while I'm sure that when people first got them in hand they also screamed "FOTY!". Unlike DX12, though, I find either of them more deserving.
What makes a FOTY? Is it just flashy mixed-media costume? Is it a diorama base? Accessories? For me it should go beyond those. Because if those are the only things we'd consider for FOTY, then 2 of 3 of those things are what you could regularly get from Sideshow's GI Joe line and Soldier Story figures. Of course who'd vote for them, right? To me, The real FOTY should be any figure that requires NO MODIFICATIONS at all, especially pricey ones on top of the already hefty pricetag. Sure, modfications are optional, but if the optional mod involves THE LIKENESS of the figure when HT takes pride on details and likeness from the source material, then it's not FOTY worthy IMO.
I may be the minority, but the bacon should have been brought home by another Batman. The Batman whose cape is the only thing that was an OPTIONAL, not a MUST modification. It was a shrunken Keaton in a stunning replication of his bat-suit. Just my 2 cents.
I po'd this way back August. If this turns out just a blown up version of DX12, then I already have someone waiting for me to sell it to him at retail.
