Batman is not supposed to be corny like that.
You're right. He's supposed to be serious and believable like Bale doing his gruff voice.
Batman is not supposed to be corny like that.
Oh not again.
Yup, Bale or fail.
REALISTIC.
Personally I like grounded because that's my style of writing and creating stories. That's why I'm so impressed when people can create a place like Gotham City from their mind. There is enough room for both types of artists and writers in the world. I hate how everything has to be this vs that for the greatest all time showdown. The fact is, and I've said this before, Burton's Batman was made during a different time when that was the darkest you could get. Nolan's Batman is a reaction from the Schumacher films. If those last 2 movies didn't get made, I hardly doubt that WB would have been up for Nolan's interpretation. Anyway it seems fair, we suffered through two awful ones and got two great ones right after. All this talk of Batman and I remember when nobody gave a **** when Batman Begins came out. To point out one flaw of the Nolan films though: They really should have kept using the Narrows. TDK didn't need it but TDKR strayed too far from the "scary" Gotham.
Yeah I agree that it was unintentional and I can understand how no one could tell Nolan he was wrong after TDK lolLoved the scare element of Begins. Nolan describes Batman as being like the Alien - hidden and terrifying. Dark Knight Rises loses all of that - they attempt to regain it in the sewers when he's with Selina trying to find Bane but its rushed and lacks suspense. Then any idea that he is a bat, something to strike fear into criminals just goes straight out the window at the end of the film when he just walks down the road in broad daylight to fight Bane. He is reduced to nothing more than a man in a suit - not on purpose, I don't think, just unintentionally by Nolan.
We're the same age and I share your exact sentiment. All three eras hold a special place in my heart.

Nolan stripped the character of his mystique and just made him a guy in a kevlar suit. Hopefully the Affleck Batman will actually be menacing.

I think Nolan's interpretation has much more to do with our society's mood post 911 than it does being motivated by Schumacher's cheese.
But trust me, in 20 years, even Nolan's "dark" knight will seem somewhat cheesy, stilted and way too serious.
Everytime I read Nolan in this thread I'll post the same pics....
