i kinda doubt an Asian company reads American message boards for critiques of their products. or ANY message boards for that matter.
i seriously doubt even Sideshow takes this place into consideration enough to actually delay any release.

Yes they do. I don't know about delaying a release but SS has made product changes based on some things that have been said here.

that said, this does not look like Depp. it doesn't. anyone who thinks it does needs to watch the movie.
for the price we're expected to pay for Hot Toys figures, their sculpts should look more like the actors than the actual actors.
why should i pay the premium price for Hot Toys when McFarlane did a far better sculpt for 1/10th the price?

In this image it looks like him to me I don't know about you, also not trying to stand up for them but if you were running a company and couldn't acquire the rights to likeness's what are you going to do? Never release the figure? Or do it for the fans of the film, and just customize it?

It does, maybe not 100% but it does look like him. I have seen the movie 100 times already. How can you see no Depp in this:

Well you are wrong. They have said in a magazine interview that they look through boards for feedback.

And there is nothing they can do about the sculpt since they are having problems acquiring likeness rights. Disappointing yes.....but not entirely the fault of Hot Toys.

Some store-display pics. Props to CMING of toy-world. Looks like the paper bunnies will be included.

you know it doesn't look like him. and you're making a big stretch for whatever reason to say it does.
and if there was no way to get a likeness i wouldn't make the figure. there's no point in making a Depp figure if it doesn't look like him.
McFarlane did just fine with that philosophy.

Then just don't buy it if you dislike it so much.

I think this fig is the best HT product yet, can't wait to order it.

No, don't worry about that. I'm pretty sure Yulli has a link to the SS forum on her blog. Some others here could correct me if I'm wrong. And SS changed the color of Plo Koon's saber after we all made a big stink about it being green and not blue.:lol

definitely has the face of a transexual.

Well in most pics it doesn't especially in the most recent ones from toy world, but I'm just saying that in the pic I posted it does, so if its going to take some special lighting to get it to look like him so be it. I would rather have a powerloader for example than no powerloader at all because of Ripley's likeness, but thats just me so to each is own. I understand your frustration of paying top dollar for a collectable but at least we are getting a 1/6 Edward and by the time of release the sculpt might change so maybe we should just save our ^^^^^ing till then K? :monkey3:monkey3

I see a Depp likeness in that pic. Not perfect but I definitely see him there. And besides Depp as Edward Scissorhands doesn't even look like the Depp we are familiar with.

As for not making a figure if they couldn't acquire the rights I have to disagree. I'd still buy some of the Predator 1 figures even if they couldn't get the likeness rights. If there is a demand and money to be made why not? I'm sure there are Edward fans out there who will get this even without a perfect likeness.

He is entitled to his opinion even if he doesn't like the sculpt. And out of it we may get a better figure, if likeness rights allow it.

Hair is a bit high, but it was like that in several scenes. Other than that, looks pretty dead on to me. Looks like Depp and the suit and scissors detail is bad ass as usual.

Thanks for sharing darren. Hmmm, not sure: I mean, shame about likeness issues, but I still think the face looks ace. The hair is too tall for my personal taste. Will wait and see.

Old HT stand I notice.

Did i say he wasn't entitled to his opinion?

No, this is what we are going to get. HT couldn't get the likeness rights, listen to Wookster, end of story. I like it and want it sooner rather than later.

I'm not reading any whining, but what's the problem with acquiring the rights prior to going through all the trouble to make any figure. That reason just doesn't wash.
If they said, Oh we aren't going to pay for rights, it cuts into our profit margin, so here's Johnny, then I could understand.
Here's an orange.

and here's another that looks just like it.

I do wonder why that seems to be a recurrent theme with HT, they make figures but don't secure rights. In this case he's close enough that I'm not bothered... probably helps that even Edward doesn't look 100% like Depp.

Either way I'm stoked for the figure and I will definitely be getting one :rock

Wonder if we'll get some torn-up pants, shirt and suspenders? Or if that will be released as a 2nd figure...
