I guess I'm frustrated because when I discovered that Hot Toys existed (not that long ago) I was struck by how much their figures seemed to be like actual movie animation macquettes. Having a slight background in animation, I was struck by the extreme detail and faithfulness to the source material, combined with the massive range of possible poses. I could imagine Ray Harryhausen using these toys to make films in the 1960's!

The idea of the original Giger Alien being available in that sort of quality format is what has me salivating, so it's really frustrating that they're saying "Hey, you know what? I reckon it would look better if the eyes were like, angry..." and so on. I don't mind if it's not exactly right, but at least honour the source material.

Oh well, I'll always have my Medicom...

Some great posts and opinions.

I'm disappointed as well. I was really hoping for an accurate offering from them.

I have no qualms with artistic interpretations, some of the more stylish figures and statues out there are amazing work- Narin's, Takeya, etc.

But when you add the title of Movie Masterpiece Giger Alien to it, I feel it should be accurate. And as people pointed out, it's expensive. It's not a bad figure, it's just stylized a bit more than fans expected.

So is there a pre-order page from Sideshow on this one? Seems all the other announced stuff from HT has one?

I like how Sideshow is acting like they are saving this reveal for something special at Comic Con when we have all already seen, and torn it apart on this forum.

That's because there are Sideshow customers who don't live on the forums like we do and may not have seen the shots from the Japanese toy show and will still have it be a big deal revelation when Sideshow puts it up. I was buying throught Sideshow for almost a year before really hitting forums and web and learning all this stuff, back then Sideshow's site was my source.

Just like me Maul. I would never have known about it until Sideshow releases it if I hadn't been on here.

Also, the pics I see of this guy don't look as bad as everybody is acting. Now I understand that people want accuracy and all that good ^^^^, but still. Can't we be grateful for what we have? I mean, Hot Toys could have just not even produced it and then everybody would complain about them not making one. So I guess the company can't please everyone. One last thing, is that nobody is forcing you to buy this figure, so if you don't like it then don't buy it. I know it may not live up to everybody's expectations, but still at least it was made, and it isn't so bad that someone can't say "Hey that is the Alien from the first Alien movie."

This comment would have been hilarious if this was posted in the Hot Toys original Predator thread, if Hot Toys had taken artistic license with that figure.

People would have went APE SHlT if that Pred had not only been "not accurate" but an artistic version as well.

Hot Toys went out of their way to make the Predator as accurate as possible.

We Alien fans expect NOTHING LESS.

As much as I feel the scrutinizing and Photoshop composites are getting out of proportion very quickly, it's really Hot Toys' fault, they created it. Sideshow's always been open to feedback and responded, but Hot Toys opened themselves to every graphic manipulator on the planet submitting "enhancement" photos on products, and as long as they're willing to hear that out, internet forums will explode whenever a product doesn't seem all it can be.

I applaud the pursuit of better products, but sometimes I wonder if it's better people strive for or exact, and frankly, I think an exact, perfect figure is impossible and will never happen simply because there will never be something every single person with any interest in it can entirely agree upon,a and some things will just be impossible to do at the scale.

It just seems like the fun of collecting is almost lost when the bar gets elevated so high and coping with things falling short seems so hard.

I get pulled into the scrutiny as it's the topic of choice here these days, but in the end, I'm also pretty much happy as is with most things.

The only glaring issue I find with this figure is the skull showing so clearly, particularly for when I want to do photos, the NECA figure was a pain in that regard, the skull showed too easily, it was never a mysterious silhouette which it ought to be.

All the small fixes people are finding, again, I applaud the pursuit.

This isn't even about the fix it folks in here, just a general shell shocked rant about the current state of things around here that every Hot Toys figure to debut now is almost immediately disected for improvement with seemingly no time to just enjoy what's been presented.

I woulda posted that there too, but as noted I have been very lean on posting and haven't kept up much. I also posted this a lot last year and got laughed at.

I understand where you're coming from Sabres though. I understand that Hot Toys has decided to give extra care and attention to my favorite creature, the predator and has pretty much ^^^^ted upon the Alien license. That frustrates me as well because I wanted a Giger Big Chap Alien. But since I wanted one so much by Ho Toys I am able to put aside my anger and just taken what was handed to me. I would have done the same thing with the predator.

I understand your point as well.

And, if Hot Toys had taken artistic license with ALL of their figures (including the original Pred), then this figure's flaws could be overlooked.

But, since they did their best with the Pred...we want the best Alien they can deliver.

I agree. this Alien looks to be the best Alien HT has ever done. By far I mean! And the artistic license for this figure isn't as bad as the others. The P1 Predator and the other Predators all seem to have many things changed due to someone's artistic creativity. And to me, yes, I've read the thread and saw all of the flaws listed, I still think it is no more than what was done to the Hot Toys Predator 1 figure.

It's only one photo, but the thumbnail on SSC's site looks more silver/black than brown.

I'm sure also emotion is factoring in a lot, between the Predator 1 getting such fine care put into it as it got, and a history of poor care shown to the Aliens, this figure had as much riding on it as the P1, which could have had the same issues other Pred figures had but it didn't and it came out looking great, HT could have shown the Aliens fans the same care but for some reason, they have an approach with this creature that makes no sense to us.

Don't like bringing it up again but I still don't get what the thought process was on the ALIENS warrior, it's totally an HT original design.
