Have you read (or even better listened to the Audible version) of Tarkin. Excellent back story to Tarkin. Really recommend it. Actually makes getting this figure even better imo.

I don't think he would have turned on Palpatine

Tarkin and Thrawn are my two favorite Disney canon books. Can't recommend them enough. Can't wait for the full reveal of Tarkin this weekend.

which one!

:lol

After Tarkin, I'll be pretty happy with the ANH figures.

All I really want from ESB is Vader, Han, Lando, Piett, and the rest of the bounty hunters, but I'm not sold hot toys will produce those.

I hate ROTJ. Luke, Emperor, and slave garb Leia would be it for me.

Sideshow has made most of the other characters, bad head sculpts aside, they are ok.

So the end is in sight! :)

I have always thought that there was something off with the CGI version from R1. Seeing them side by side now I realize what it is. The CGI version has a too long face compared with the real actor. Must of had to do with the replacing actor, I can imagine that Peter Cushing's face couldn't just be copied and pasted on top of Guy Henry's face. It was however a very impressive recreation in my opinion.

This is almost a guaranteed preorder from me. This is the figure I've been waiting from Sideshow OR Hot Toys. Bring on the reveal!

I think for me it was something in how the eyes moved... when he was still you would think it was Cushing, but as he moved something started to not work as well. Although people I saw it with (who were not as familiar with the films and Peter Cushing) did not notice anything and just assumed it was a live actor.

I find the problem with all CGI humans is the mouth. Something about the upper lips are never quite right. Whether it's Rogue One characters, or Jeff Bridges in Tron 2, it's the upper lip when they are speaking that really give it away...

Awe, ****!!! Now who the **** did HT sculpt?! What did they use as reference? I'm excited about this announcement, but with RO being viable cannon for the sculptors and HT being HT...well.:gah:

I thought they really did an incredible job with the CGI rendering of Peter Cushing in Rogue One. They're not quite to the point of it looking perfect, but they're getting awfully close (Tarkin looked more convincing to me than Leia). That being said, I would see no point in them deliberately using the CGI version as a reference for the sculpt when they could just as easily use Peter Cushing from A New Hope. I'm not saying that they definitely won't, because who knows for sure what they'll do. But to me that seems like it would be a silly decision on their part.

I totally agree. Leia's face seemed long and thin, plus she seemed taller. Carrie Fisher was, dare I say, a little chubby in ANH.

Tarkin on the other hand, I knew it wasn't him which is how I knew it wasn't him. I concentrated more on what wasn't right than what he was saying in the movie. I imagine I wasn't the only one. As far as the side by side picture goes, I probably couldn't tell real from fake without the background and the flat lighting used by Lucas.

Now, it only seems logical to use the original to reference from, but logical sometimes gets thrown out the window coming from HT and to a greater extent Disney. I know it will be something that's debated once we see the sculpt. Even then it comes down to what we see or don't see and what the sculptor sees or doesn't see.

Obviously RO Tarkin isn't 100% convincing but wow, I am amazed at just how close they got. The pic on the right is just a bit zoomed in compared to the other, any chance you could shrink it a tad so that their necks/collars are the same size? Then we could see an almost perfect side by side.

One thing to keep in mind is that the RO's CG rendering is based off of Cushing's 1984 appearance in Top Secret (where they made a cast of his face in order to attach that big goofy eye.) Cushing himself was 7 years older than when he did ANH so even if RO had actually been made immediately after ROTJ and they cast the real actor his face still wouldn't have perfectly matched his appearance in ANH. Some things you just can't avoid and actors changing appearance from one film to the next is often one of them (with Mark Hamill's motorcycle accident causing one of the most dramatic examples.)

Note how the CG Tarkin pretty much is a 100% match to the life cast which they physically used to create a 3D image in the computer. With Carrie they had no such cast and had to basically try and match the mo-cap actress to ANH reference material by hand.

The actual Tarkin has his head slightly tilted back so the picture will never match perfectly. That also explains the comment about the "long face".

Tarkin in RO was very convincing. Leia looked like bag of rubber to me.
