What about the heads? I ask because some have the cording around the dome edge and some don't. Could this be why it's hard to nail down one sculpt?

I would say 4 heads. The hero, 2 stunt suit heads and the SFX head.

But, can you honestly say that the Hot Toys version looks like ANY of them?

This is the stunt suit head, so it would be the most general version of the sculpt.
And the HT version still doesn't look anything like this as far as the facial portion is concerned.

Sabres thanks a lot for posting all of those pics they are exactly what I was looking for! I could not even find adequate shots on all of my DVD special features.

In any case I can see a certain degree of difference between pics too. One of the major gripes I've heard was the amount of space between the dome and where the teeth start and from all these pics there is a clear amount of difference in every one, some look like HT and some have just a few cm apart.

I think some of the comments I read were extreme "Why does Hot Toys ignore everything Giger did?" Was one of them that makes no sense to me, from these pics all the detail is there. It not like they took any artistic liberties like invented something out of scratch, the detail might not be a 100 percent replica but everything was considered. Sure sometimes tubes look thicker or thinner or start nearer or farther than the original but it's all there.

The only thing i can honestly say i noticed HT took artistic liberties with was the ring around the wrists, and I prefer what they did to be honest because it works to hide the joints.

Personally im not saying everyone should smarten up and be satisfied, not in the slightest, to each their own, but for me, even if Hot Toys did sculpt the tiny details a little more accurate to the suit it would not alter my enjoyment of the figure. IMO all of the details are there, everything looks accurate and the overall figure looks amazing, so I'm happy. I'm not knocking perfectionism. I understand it, Im an art director, i make a living off of scrutinizing small details, but HT did a good, and accurate job IMO.

On the pic where the alien is holding ripley's head it looks like the wrist rings are there while the last full body shot it looks like they are not, this is what I mean about lack of consistency.

i do see the differences in the head for sure. the teeth do bug me what les did looks great with the chrome. im going to k mart to get one of those pens.

Glad to help Raymond.

I think what everyone meant by the distance between the dome and teeth is that, when the Alien opens it's mouth in the movie, it's top lip pulls up and is really not visible at all.

Hot Toys sculpted it with a very pronounce upper lip, and it's ALWAYS there. Even when the mouth opens. Which is a bit distracting honestly.

I know they could not have some type of "lip snarling" mechanism in the fig.
But, they could have sculpted it with just a bit less lip simply because it spends most of the time on screen with the lips pulled back anyway.

Since the hands were basically just gloves, the "rings" you see are actually where the glove has bunched up around his wrist.
That's why, sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't.

I would say...just between those two pictures you posted there are variations. Two things in just glancing at them. There is a dent in the dome of the forehead of your picture thats not in the HT's version...the dent seems to have transfered the the top front of the dome on the HT's ALIEN. Also the mouth is more round in the photo and the HT's mouth is more football shaped. But in this picture you posted it looks football shaped.......

and this picture there is no forehead dent.....

It seems like the heads used in the movie also have variations in them. I do enjoy seeing these pics I have never seen before...Thanks!

That might be possible by trimming the lip away and sculting that area into gums/teeth. Though it would be cool if they could articulate that into an ALIEN one day like the eye movement in the newer HT's figures. That would be great!

Another thing that really bugs me about the Hot Toys version is the tongue.

They really did take liberties with that.
And that is something we got a damn good look at in the shuttle.

I see what you're saying. But, the second pic is not real clear.
The first one is the actual hero suit that's on display in the Giger Museum.

It's suffered a bit from time.

I threw a pic of the HT version in there for comparison to the 2nd pic.

Yeah the HT's Alien is more round and has that hump towards the back of the dome thats not there is ANY production heads. And they really did drop the ball on the tongue....looks nothing like it. Good thing it's hidden inside the mouth. Did ya happen to see Les' conversion on that?

Yep, saw Les' custom...and it's PERFECT!

It looks so much better that way.

It does! I also saw that 1:1 HCG Alien bust. That really is impressive....and not a bad price either :D When's that arrive?

Not being funny...but they're on a slow boat from China...for real!

I'd guess another month or so before they start showing up.

And that will seem like forever. I have to say that the ALIEN is one of my all time favorite movie monsters along with the Predator. Saying that I mean ALIEN only. Not so much with ALIENS. So, I do know from wherst you come Sabres. Keep those photos coming! They're fasinating!

I wonder if an ENTERPRISING member might be able to make a custom dome?? A higher dome and resculpt of the skull might do wonders.

Great idea! I wonder if there's enough room under the dome to lower that back bump. Also the front indentation. I know they made replacement domes for the Kenner figures.....why not these?

Well, I could almost live with the Leno Jaw but the Misshapen Dome is what really kept me from pulling the trigger on this. I just can't justify buying one if I end up shaking my head everytime I looked at it. These ref pics of the Real Dome are making me crazy.

Best I move along... before I tear my hair out. :lol

Once on that page, just click any of the links on the left hand side for whatever movie you want. It's still a work-in-progress. :D

I'm liking the idea of taking Hellpainter's head and bashing it on the HT body. The loss of the articulated jaw means nothing to me as it's only as good as the tongue anyway.

Such a dilemma: I steer away from this, then I start to hear good things and like the in-hand pics, then I see these stills again and I get aggravated.

Anyone have the old Halcyon 1/5th scale vinyl kit? I have that buried somewhere. I wonder if that head is any better? Maybe a switch-out with that?

Nevermind, found a pic online:

Here's the Tsukuda, which is basically the same thing.
Tsukuda and Halcyon used the same molds.

I think the tongue on the Halcyon is sculpted in though.

I know the Tsukuda version's tongue comes out, but I don't think that's the case with the old Halcyon,
