Yellow Pearl Surfer... looks like he's hanging 10... in the Pipe.

Nice piece. The dome looks better but not correct either...

I am surprised by how off the CM looks as well... never looked at it too closely, but it does look very different.

Yeah, the Cinemaquette is not the "be all, end all" Alien collectible.
Alot of it is off, sculpt wise. But, it's still alot better looking that the HT Alien.

Although, they really are in two different catagories when it comes to collectibles.

Marmit is really the only company to come close to perfectly capturing Giger's look.

Seeing the images of the CM makes me even more interested in seeing what Sideshow is able to do.

I would love to see a pose similar to the new Hellpainter kit you showed us.

Especially the amazing custom Marmit, on which any and all future poseable 1/6th scale figures should be based!

I'm seriously excited about the Revoltech though. Cheap enough for repaints and customs galore!

Whats really sad is when i was a kid i had the kenner alien, which was a brilliant toy. Then one year he went missing, pretty sure my grandmother trashed it cause he looked satanic. And he was in pretty good shape although i cracked the plastic dome of him. still would have been worth a decent bit in this day n age.

Sabres thanks a lot for posting all of those pics they are exactly what I was looking for! I could not even find adequate shots on all of my DVD special features.

In any case I can see a certain degree of difference between pics too. One of the major gripes I've heard was the amount of space between the dome and where the teeth start and from all these pics there is a clear amount of difference in every one, some look like HT and some have just a few cm apart.

I think some of the comments I read were extreme "Why does Hot Toys ignore everything Giger did?" Was one of them that makes no sense to me, from these pics all the detail is there. It not like they took any artistic liberties like invented something out of scratch, the detail might not be a 100 percent replica but everything was considered. Sure sometimes tubes look thicker or thinner or start nearer or farther than the original but it's all there.

The only thing i can honestly say i noticed HT took artistic liberties with was the ring around the wrists, and I prefer what they did to be honest because it works to hide the joints.

Personally im not saying everyone should smarten up and be satisfied, not in the slightest, to each their own, but for me, even if Hot Toys did sculpt the tiny details a little more accurate to the suit it would not alter my enjoyment of the figure. IMO all of the details are there, everything looks accurate and the overall figure looks amazing, so I'm happy. I'm not knocking perfectionism. I understand it, Im an art director, i make a living off of scrutinizing small details, but HT did a good, and accurate job IMO.

RF, there are a lot of artistic liberties taken with the HT alien.

Just take a look at the lower legs and you'll see that there's a bunch of extra, invented, detailing on the HT figure compared to the suit (or the Medicom, NECA, Cinemaquette or Marmit figures/statues).
Same can be said about the arms, especially the biceps. The tongue is also wrong, as has been pointed out and the teeth are wrong in number and configuration. The detailing on the back tubes is also wrong (Tsang has a thing about sculpting female genitalia into the tubes -not that Giger wouldn't do that, it's just that he didn't do it).
Oh, and don't forget the tail and feet which are also off.
And that's just off the top of my head.

Can't wait to have mine in hand and do a thorough review and comparison. :D

cinemaquette looks like crap! It reminds me of the avatar alien, super skinny with huge heads, hate the pose too. Totally not meaning to be disrespectful, as i know they are super expensive. But I think HT destroys it. Their head looks off too tho no? But the mouth does look more accurate as does the color of the head being deeper black.

Actually, I think the skinny appearance of the Cinemaquette is pretty spot on!

What I don't dig so much is the side view of the head, which although huge, looks somewhat squashed and not as elongated as the movie creature.

The pose I could live with, it could be argued that it's when the alien turns around to face Parker.

But yeah, right now I'm really looking forward to Revoltech's figure and seeing what Sideshow comes up with.

I also just got mine from alterego as well and let me say he is really really awesome.

Really just so damn cool.

I have been looking at other peoples pic and always wondered if he was really shiny like the pics show or if he had a flatter looking paint like the official HT pics. And I was kind of getting upset that he kept looking shiny in all the in hand pics.

But now after having him I see why the 'wet' look works. It gives him an 'alive' and 'organic' look and I'm really happy with the results.

BTW mine came perfect. So much as I can see, no tears, rips, broken joints, etc. but I haven't tried to change the hands.

Presenting the case for Medicom and accuracy:

Excuse the crappy pic, but for some strange reason, I pick the worst time of day to take photos... however, despite the lack of texture, you can clearly see that the Medicom figure has the right look and feel. You can even see where the tendons on the Medicom stop to allow for the opening mouth, and how that affects the shape of the upper lip somewhat, making the side view of the mouth look somewhat square instead of triangular.
Also, the front of the dome doesn't have the same shape as this prop, as it just slants back instead of following the shape of the skull underneath more closely.
But still, it captures the essence of the Giger statue/suit much better.

Anyway, yeah, bring on more pics of the HT beastie!
I got the BBTS notice as well, but I've got my pile of loot on, so I don't know if I should wait for the next figure to show up or just have it shipped now and damn saving on shipping! :lol

Thanks for the comparison pics with the Cinemaquette. I was thinking that it was the be all, end all of Alien collectibles. I know they had in person reference of the suit in the Giger museum.

The dome does look different between the two, although I can't really identify any other differences.

I don't have the figure in hand yet - but I expect to like it a lot. I know that obsessing over beloved properties is one of the functions of this forum, and I can't really talk since I do the same thing about Reeve Superman.

But whereas a suit color difference is obvious - I truly am having trouble seeing what the issues are with the Alien. It seems they used all the suits as reference and then kind of did an idealized version.

Well said, Dave, I agree. Now just convince the other 6 people in this thread that can't handle it. Where is the photo of the A L I E N sucking it's thumb. Biggest thumb suck in A L I E N thread history, right here, right now. :D

It's just their opinion, not fact. Everyone sees things differently and there is no standard. What they want is an FX head on a stand and about 10 different heads expressing different emotions. :lol

Like Dave said, "obsessing over beloved properties is one of the functions of this forum".

So, there will be no convincing anybody about this figure.

You can agree with whoever you like...there will always be those who disagree.

Companeros,
I got mine from Viking Playground. Its an amazing figure and im VERY happy I went this route. Up until a week ago, I was back an forth in between Medi or HT.
While the Medicom head might be more screen accurate, my final decision was made when I saw this side by side pic:

For those that are getting it, you wont be dissapointed.
