HT took the easy way really. It does take for ever to sculpt the Alien right.

That would have made it all the more special though, and really, it's not as though this figure has a movie it has to be out with, it's just the most important Alien to most fans, the one that started it all, the original design from which they all sprang. They seemed to want to put the care into recognizing and rewarding that for the Predator fans, and I think that's why a lot of Alien fans are bothered by this figure, they hoped they too would have their cherished design handled with the same love, care and attention to detail.

Glad this didn't turn out as good as I hope to be, otherwise I'd have a hard time passing this one. Since I have quite a bit of stuff on my plate right now.

The only thing that I'm a bit worried is the way HT as a company is taking direction right now, it seems that they are no longer as passionate at what they do and throw mediocre stuff at us and expect us to swallow it. E.g. Edward scissorhands, what's a good edward, when it doesn't even look like depp in the first place?!

I just hope and pray that they don't screw up MJ thriller, as I'd be very pissed if they did :(
Well, we can expect that answer in a few days time, I suppose.

That's because there are more predator fans, and/or on the secondary market predator still hold up if not increase on their value. And its important for HT to continue giving them quality product, as its one of their main bread and butter since day 1.

While aliens on the other hand doesn't get that much love and attention, and barely holds up it value. My 2 c.

Hey Kyle!
Good to see ya buddy!

I've said it once and I'll say it a thousand times... if NECA gives you the green-light to perfect your Alien in 1/6 scale you would easily make the PERFECT alien!
I look up your alien every now and then in stores and a lot of times I see it back-ordered... that says a lot IMHO.

You guys could easily make a high-end figure with great packaging, better paint apps and maybe a base, and still make money off it. But that's just a fan's opinion.

Anyway, I have your 22" Alien in front of me as I type, and it is beautiful.

I don't like this HT Alien as much as the next guy here, but I don't agree with what you said above.

Firstly, I wouldn't say they're dispassionate or putting any less effort in now, in fact, I find things are ramping up, production paint app quality, portrait realism, clothing weathering. Every figure from HT that I've got this year is a stunning example and smokes anything I've gotten from them in the past.

As for Edward, that's a licensing issue. That movie is older and pre-merchandising, Depp's likeness rights weren't covered so it can't look like Depp.

While it can be argued how much some HT sculpts resemble who they're supposed to be, anything based on a property before around 1992 is likely to have no likeness rights in the property licenese and rights may not be obtainable or worth obtaining at the extra costs and efforts it'll take. Getting Arnold's ok on Dutch was an extra process, but HT knew it had to be done to really satisfy fans, something like Scissorhands, they probably figure with it being a more abstract character, they could get away with it being close.

I wonder if this has something to do with Giger himself, FOX not wanting to pay licensing fees to him. Then again, if Neca can do it...

I really don't think this has anything to do with Giger. I'm sure Fox has the rights to the creature and the original design, so it's up to the licensee to get the sculpt accurate, as many have shown that it can be done to varying degrees (Marmit, NECA, Medicom).

Yup, if it were a licensing issue you'd have heard about it, especially with first hand word from NECA on these boards.

It comes down to references and choices.

I remember something about Giger getting the shaft by FOX on royalties for Aliens or Alien3 for taking creative license with his original design.

If true, I'd say Alien 3, he came back to design the Alien 3, so if he'd been screwed before that, doubt he'd have done it.

He wasn't contacted for Aliens, but did start working on A3 (some very interesting designs BTW).
For some as yet unexplained reason ADI started working on the project as well and came up with a rather similar design to Giger's. After that Giger got very pissed off and sued IIRC and Fox payed up.
It's quite an interesting story.

Maybe HT will release a DX big chap alien that'll be the "accurate" one. I'm surprised and a little disappointed on the mouth not getting fixed on the final product but still the alien fan in me has to have this one.

I cannot bear the painting...it is just looks like NECA's...

Didn't see this posted anywhere, but the proto/WIP in Joseph Tsang's blog (link in new HT newsletter: https://hk.myblog.yahoo.com/josephfigure/article?mid=1069) looks much more accurate than the final product. The thinner upper "gums" and dome slope seem much better. Something was lost in the translation from proto sculpt to production piece - perhaps issues with the inner jaw mechanism, or to accomodate articulation joints? I guess we'll never know.

Don't forget that hot toys released two aliens figures. Black and because (Many people complained about accuracy) BROWN. This is supposed to be based on his original design. They wil release a second alien that I more screen accurate.

Cmon guys, buy it! They need enough sales for them to release a ver 2. I'm getting that one!
