The mouth gaping open all the time is a big factor in drawing attention to that area. It's still innaccurrate but at least your gaze isn't pulled right to that feature because of the goofy open mouth when the tongue's not out.

There's nothing more annoying than some drooling mouth breather looming over your shoulder. ;)

You did it! Finally someone did. I knew it would look better.

Now I'm back to considering this piece. I definitely think this is the only worthwhile way to display this particular figure. The tongue is just too small and incorrect to bother to use.

I wonder if pushing the tongue's teeth up against the inside of the closed mouth to create that multi-levels of teeth look would be cool too? Bet it would.

That probably wouldn't work, because the lever used to push the tongue forward only locks in place when pushed all the way forward.

Hell, I'm cutting that lever off if I glue the mouth, so maybe I could just set the tongue where I want inside the mouth. Ugh, such brutal surgery on an expensive toy.

Dude your nuts!!! Don't destroy a brand new collectible just so the mouth is closed. Lolololol. let's see some more pictures to see if it's worth it. LET'S ALL GET CRAZy Glue!!

Yeah the mouth looks better glued shut like that. Did you have to make any adjustments to the jaw tendons and lips?

Still not buying this figure but I wonder if doing this would improve the Dog Alien's face. That thing looks nothing like the film creature either with its piranha mouth but I now wonder could it be salvaged with something like this minor custom.

Can you give us some more pictures with the mouth closed please?? I need to see a full side shot and front shot.

I won't be able to until Friday as I gotta drive 5 hours first thing in the AM & won't get home until late tomorrow night. I'll try to get you some shots Friday afternoon.

Nope, just had to make sure the teeth lined up correctly. Since the mouth wants to stay open it took a couple of applications & I had to hold it closed for a few minutes.

Reverend, from The Hive, did some modding to his HT A3.

I know he rolled and glued the lips and opened the jaw more.

I think it looks ALOT better that the original...

In my opinion that goes to Medicom's, so long as you don't care about the scale, but I think the Revoltech is going to take that crown.

The main issue is that in the film you do actually get several close ups of the mouth and jaw, so to me the HT's face doesn't look like what I saw in the film at all. I'm impressed by the body, but the one bit they had to get right was the size, shape and colour of the face and mouth. In that respect it really misses the mark.

But we're going round in circles here. If you like it, buy it.

has anyone pointed out that big chap only has 1 thumb and 5 fingers? :p
not to nitpick but that's one of those things i noticed the first time i saw the film and that always stuck with me and kind of an essential thing if i'm gonna drop 150$ on a figure

The original, Giger sculpted suit has 4 fingers and 2 thumbs.

I'm not sure if that's what you meant...but that's how the actual Alien hand is designed.

The HT version didn't really capture that.

yea, that's what i mean, 2 thumbs, 4 fingers - i was really glad to see NECA's 18" version did that and did it well .. the one BIG downside to NECA's version is the dome (as everyone else points that out) ... wish they would put out some more 1:6 scale aliens (with improved domes) .. i would buy a crap load of those

Thats pretty cool. It looks a bit more menacing anyway. A custom like that doesn't seem like an impossibility.

I think what turns people off about the Medi-alien is the (non-existant) paint-apps.
I'm sure that if it had a great paint job people would be much more forgiving of its scale issues, but the fact is it does look a bit plain.

My dream is getting an extra Medi-alien very cheap and then sending it off to Les for a full repaint. I can just picture in my head how mind-blowingly good it would look.

Oooooh now that's an awesome idea. But hasn't Les been really busy lately? Maybe try Joe Dunaway? Or even our own Silent Surfer!!! :D
