Isn't ownership of the franchise in limbo right now? And I hope Bale's presigned, I like him as an actor and for consistency would like him to remain Connor, which is a fear I have when too much time passes between films unless the actors are contracted.

Last I heard it was. Dont think anyone has snapped it up yet. I may be wrong though... :dunno

Here's what Wikipedia says:
While Terminator Salvation was initially planned to introduce a new trilogy, production of a fifth film has been halted by legal trouble, as well as production company Halcyon filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection. While some anonymous sources insist that Terminator 5 will be moving forward the majority of analysts predict that its future is in jeopardy. In late September 2009, it was announced that the rights for the franchise are once again up for sale as the Halcyon Company tries to pull itself out of bankruptcy. In late October 2009, Halcyon announced it would auction off the rights to future Terminator material and is seeking $60-70 million, though thus far the only offer has been significantly less at $10,000 by director Joss Whedon. In December 2009, Halcyon issued a statement saying that they are looking at various options including sale and refinancing of the rights with an announcement on the outcome no later than February 1, 2010. On February 8, 2010, an auction was held to determine the owner of the Terminator rights. After studios Sony and Lionsgate bidded separately from 3 PM to 8 PM, Pacificor, the hedge fund who pushed Halycon into bankruptcy, made a deal for $29.5 million.

That's why I say I take whatever comes. The Terminator franchise seems to go through some sort of ownership switch or situation around the release of each movie starting with T3. If the property was safely and long term in someone's hands I'd feel confident in getting something out of it, but these issues make that seem iffy to me.

I dont think Bales contract means anything if the Halcyon is no longer the owner of the terminator franchise. And I can't stand when they get different actors to play the same character.

Yes, but with it profiting $170mil off of the last pic (worldwide), and I'm guessing Bale's contract had to be part of the negotiations, added with Arnold's expressed interest in returning, there'll be more.

You must hate James Bond, and I'm not even going to ask about Doctor Who.

Oh wait I did .

It'll happen. The simple fact that Bale's signed on for three was likely the anchor in the bargaining of the franchise.

Didn't care much for Bale in the Connor role. All he did was yell and bark orders expecting people to believe he is right.

I do hope we get a Terminator film where John is this so great of a military leader that Skynet keeps sending eons of Terminators back in time to destroy him and doesn't have to rely on one to save his own ass.

I took it all in stride and went in understanding that T:S was gonna be a "coming into his own" type of film, with the sequel being the commanding "take the ____ to Skynet" type of thing, and the third being the "prequel" to T-1.

I didn't dislike Connor in T:S, it was fine, but like Evil, I'm still waiting for the movie that final shows us John Connor the legend that's been boasted over all the other movies.

Evil, I am in agreement with you 100%. I felt that the way they wrote Bale, he wasn't a leader at all - or someone I would not want to follow. Clearly you can see that the movie wasn't supposed to be about him at all, and when Bale got casted, they went in and tried to write more for him. Didn't work for me.

If machines took over the world and I was supposed to lead the resistance I wouldnt yell or bark orders either.

I don't think it's so much that the yelling and barking made no sense as the tales of John from Kyle Reese in T1 portrayed him as this heroic figure that everyone looked up to and turned, and while TS hinted at it with things like the line about people not following orders unless given by Connor, but they didn't really portray him as the great leader humanity would rest it's hopes in. I agree that as he was portrayed in T:S, he doesn't come off as someone I'd just blindly trust, I don't blame Bale as much as how the role was written for T:S, but we still haven't gotten a film portraying the John Connor that was hyped up through T1 and T2.

Terminator Salvation can be talked about forever and analyzed a bunch of different ways, in the end, it is just not a great movie. I won't blame the actors, writing or director specifically; rather, it was a combination of the three that in the end, it just did not work.

Of course he wasnt as heroic, the movie took place 11 years before kyle was sent back. And didnt he become the leader of the resistance in the last 20 minutes of the movie, when the resistance HQ was blown up? Im sure Mcg WAS planning on expanding his story in the next two films.

Problem is, the other films might not get made, maybe they won't be McG, not that that's a bad thing, but if not him, they might go a new direction.

Some people want to see a film about John that shows us John being the man of legend and living up to Kyle's stories and all. It's tough putting hope in a movie someday getting made that does it, I think a lot of people, including me, were hoping Salvation would be that movie. I enjoy it for what it is, but it's also more the Marcus movie than John Connor.

Hence the word WAS. Its pretty dissapointing Salvation didnt do as well as predicted.
