The sad thing is, at some point the TDK trilogy will be forgotten, just like the 89 batman has been forgotten by the mainstream. I think once the Batfleck movie comes out, that will be the beginning of the end for TDK films.

I don't see it being forgotten any more or less than 89 Batman has been forgotten.

The absurdity of Batman & Robin called for the antidote of Batman Begins. But in turn there will be a shift back to the more fantastical (I personally hope). And maybe when that goes too far it'll go back to realism. Kinda like the Bond pattern. But the good films will always be considered good by those who lived them. Movie land still considers Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, License to Kill (I think) and GoldenEye to be great Bond films seemingly no matter how old they get. I think that will prove true with the Batman films aswell.

Maybe forgotten is the wrong word because yes, people of a certain age or generation remembers the 89 Batman, but the film was... replaced and WB did nothing to keep the 89 Batmania alive, they just moved on. I feel the new DC cinematic movie universe will do the same, unless they are terrible. It's the same with the HT figures. The DX01 was the ultimate 1/6 scale figure in 2009, and what happened , it was replaced by better figures like Woody in Toy Story :lol

50 years from now "the dark knight" movie will still be a classic. It is #2 all time in empire top AT which is a pretty decent poll of the last six years of all time lists. It transcends the comic book genre and actually has a story and plot. Not that I give too much weight to polls, but for a cb movie to rate that high, it's not a fluke or mistake.

Even if you didn't know a thing about Batman the film holds up on story alone. Ledgers performance is as iconic as darth vader, the Don or Michael from godfadda, or the bevy of Jack Nicholson's diamond efforts.

Not to mention Christopher Nolan's directing and having another classic such as inception to grant even more validity to TDKs direction and production value.

To compare something like "The Avengers" which is a good measuring stick to comic book movies to the dark knight is just laughable.

My Gene siskel and roger eibert for the night. :lol

it's kinda weird that this thread has taken a serious left turn, while people are no longer talking about this figure.
But all the same, I guess there isn't too much to talk about it. He does have that snazzy watch though............

You fart knocker.

That sounds pretty dismissive of The Avengers. I don't think it had that coming. Even if you were to compare Avengers and Godfather 2 I still don't think Avengers would deserve to be dismissed in that way. Avengers is a really crap mafia movie. But then Godfather 2 is a really crap superhero movie. When you've got two films that are brilliant at the particular thing they set out to do then they are both excellent films. After that there is only personal preference.

You're wrong, Godfather part 2 is the best Superhero ever made!:lol

I agree with you, but it does depend on your measuring stick. If you want to use something as open-ended as "artistic value," which isn't genre specific, you can compare movies like those and rightly make those kinds of claims. But yeah, it's a kind of apples to orange comparison if you're taking into account all the factors that may make a movie good or bad, such as the action scenes, the comedy, the special effects, the scope, etc. The Godfather films would look pretty terrible on most of those indicators, but since Coppola wasn't focusing on those things, Godfather shouldn't be compared to the Avengers on them (hell, Transformers would look better than Godfather or Citizen Kane if that's your yardstick). Similarly, I wouldn't try to compare a movie explicitly driven by the need to sell toys and appeal to young kids with something from Leone, Hitchcock, the Coen Bros. on artistic or dramatic merit.

I am conditioned now to assume some sort of jab at T2 whenever you post. :lol I was surprised to find you had restrained yourself.

When we start talking about artistic value....I dunno, that's getting a bit, dare I say, snobby. Elevating your favourite above everything else, assuming objectivity...I believe this is what people don't like about Nolan Batman obsessives. I know I don't.

''Our movies are special, your movies are quaint little things for kiddies. By extension the collectibles from our movies are special and they warrant ridiculous prices etc etc''

Firstly, hands up, I like some aspects of Nolan's films (a lot). I'm a Return's man though and I would pick Begins over Nolan's others. I do think there is an inherent tone of pseudo intellectuality about some obsessive Nolan Batman fan's. As if this is not pop culture but something more important and at a higher level than other movies. Nolan's films seemed incredibly clever and challenging to some members of the audience, and that made them feel good about themselves.

I read somewhere that Nolan is so popular because his films make dumb people feel smarter. Thats an interesting take on the whole thing. In reality his films are no smarter than Burton's, they just over intellectualised some simple concepts which didn't need to be intellectualised in the first place.

IMO.

They have taken the bridge and the second hall.

We have barred the gates but cannot hold them for long. The ground shakes, drums, drums in the deep. We cannot get out. A shadow moves in the dark. We can not get out . . .
