Okay, point conceded, perhaps people need to calm down on both sides of the argument.
There is certainly nothing wrong with a healthy debate, or disagreement, it's the resorting to playground name calling that I was addressing.

On the hypocrisy front, i don't think that i communicated my intention as clearly as I hoped, I am referring to the fact that everyone knows that this sort of marketing strategy does not break any laws or rules, but it doesn't mean that it does not (evidently) rattle people's cages. That was the point that I was trying to make (poorly).

Tax avoidance is legal, but not really palatable by most people's standards. Certainly the proximity of these releases to the original release (as with anakin) does not help. If three years had passed, I imagine that people would likely see it differently.

I have no axe to grind, I can see both sides of this......but whether the practice is new or not to hot toys, it may well be a new experience to the people complaining.

Personally, if it bothers me, then I exercise the only power that I have in this situation, with my wallet.

And also - eloquently put sir.

Why not just sell an accessory pack? Have one figure release for this Endor version and then have an optional accessory pack that you could bundle with it? Think outside the box. Oh wait... Hot Toys doesn’t do that anymore.

We aren't really seeing people having adult and rational discussions.

We are seeing a lot of people just complaining over and over and shouting that Hot Toys is screwing people over and part of some anti-consumer "scheme" and swearing repeatedly in their posts.

I agree that the name calling is appalling on both sides and has no place in reasonable discussions but this is a toy website for grown children, myself included, and it doesn’t surprise me. I have joined in on that practice when provoked and I’m not proud of it.

If you are saying no one is doing something , say criticizing HT, and then do it yourself that’s being a hypocrite. I’m not trying to be combative or trying to get a rise out of you but sometimes playing the fence can get slippery. I’ve called them out in the past and the veterans have clued me in before. I was not receptive to these realizations but there are a few voices of reason here who have a knack for getting their point across without devolving into personal attacks.

True that this may be a new experience for those who have not been collecting for long but the veterans have seen this time and time again. It’s up to them to help steer the conversation with experience when people go off the rails.

Ultimately, that is how we should all use our voices, with our wallets. Every dollar is a vote for more of what you are buying in any endeavor.

I just think too many people think that companies should think the way they do and give the customers everything they want so they don’t have to spend more money but a company that does that won’t be in business long. Take for example the tire that never loses its tread. They wouldn’t have had repeat customers and collapsed if that patent hadn’t been shuffled off to some government warehouse to be stored next to the Ark of the covenant and the cure for cancer.

I’m also not saying companies should be shady and falsely advertise but there is a fine line there and most people don’t see the nuance.

Everyone needs to just save your money for the ROTJ Vader’s Cremation Luke with Sad face portrait. Or even the ROTJ Watching Yoda vanishe Luke with confusion portrait. Seriously though, I’m still holding out for the ROTJ Rancor Luke with “I’m about to be lunch” portrait.
Just sayin...

Yes, the hypocrisy point is what I wanted to clarify. I do not believe Hot Toys are doing anything wrong from a legal sense, or from a chosen business strategy sense, but I could see the argument that it was perhaps not a customer focussed decision. That's not hypocritical, it's contrasting evaluation using different indicators. I expressed myself poorly in my original post.

I'm certainly not on the fence, just that this release doesn't particularly have an impact on my life either way.
My opinion would be that they should have released the more complete package first at a high price point, then either offer the more scene specific figures at a lower price point concurrently or subsequently.

This gives everyone the freedom of informed choice. But I can understand that in the short term at least, the release schedule they have opted for potentially maximises profit. In the longer term, if it was my business, I would have some concern and consideration for potentially alienating a proportion of my custom. As you point out, if they have been doing this for years, it obviously has not proved to be an issue.

Whether all of this happened by design or accident only Hot Toys would know, I can only speculate.

If I wanted two Lukes I would snap up that deluxe immediately, as it is I am more than happy with the figure that I have.

You’re really want going down that path ? So whats exactly did you want..an $200 accessories pack just like Ironman collectors ?

You’re talking about consumers were being screwed over by Hot Toys..and now you’re suggesting a **** accesories pack ? :slap

Oh boy... someone said potty words that rhyme with ***** and trucking. Stop the presses.

Well for one, that whole ordeal was poorly handled. I think a lot of people would agree on that?

Certainly not suggesting a $200 accessory pack. At all. I don’t know what the value of such a pack would cost, but I can bet it wouldn’t be $200 for a sandstorm scarf and an extra hair sculpt with various other accessories.

Caved and ordered. Just can’t resist the Endor look. However, I’m now on a slippery slope..... I promised myself only one version of each OT character, and now I’m ordering 2 Luke’s from the same film aaaarrrgggghhh!

Yeah I think we all probably started out that way, and now somehow we find ourselves with four or five Lukes in our collection. :D

The fact the swears are censored on these forums really says a lot. It's really weird.

Yup that's how it is ;).

I have three Luke's in my collection and have plans to add at least one more (Hoth) and I thought Bespin Luke was all I needed years ago.

I like the sandstorm Luke look, pretty cool to get some deleted scene related stuff. I'm not buying, but I definitely would if I had the space and could afford to buy every figure I liked.

We all gotta be careful from now on, you know how sneaky HT can be. Watch them release Bespin Han and just after that ships they will announce Bespin Deluxe Han with Hoth gear with eyes to the side same sculp. People are just calling out what they see, shady move is a shady move.

Is there a doubt? Which is why HT is no longer getting my pre order money.....

I waited for Doc Brown. Assuming they might do a BTTF1 version....after watching prices fluctuate for years, I finally bit and got it slightly BELOW retail......

So HT is doing this to themselves....and in the future they may cry they don’t have the upfront money they used to .....because people go tired of the switcharoo, and lack luster production compare to Proto.....

Al this commotion- Next thing you know, Sideshow will produce a Han Hoth figure and make you choose between the blue and the brown coat versions. Haa haa, seriously folks, its just about money. Do you blame HT?

p.s. I have never met one person in my life that cannot use a little more money or doesnt want more money.

Two things I’ve gleaned from this thread:

1. At least people aren’t fighting over TLJ anymore.

2. Whenever people claim to just want to have a discussion or to want to spark a conversation, they always seem to do it in the most offensive way possible.
