Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

I thought hot toys was famous for their figures to turn out just like the prototypes? If it doesnt look as good as it does in those pics, Ill be canceling my preorder.:monkey2

well there is a picture of one of the factory paint jobs at the top of page. Looks good to me.

Hot Toys comes closest of all makers to matching production figures to prototypes, but the quality still isn't as good as the prototype, much more time and work is put into the protos and the head painters have more skill than factory workers turning out thousands of figure heads.

This is true but I would also put Enterbay up there too. The funny thing about HT's is their Rocky product seemed to always turn out better than the prototype. :D

The first 4 yeah, they were in the older days, but current HT stuff, I think the Italian Stallion version, if we could get closeup shots of the proto, was probably painted better than the production.

All HT's figures look great in production, but they aren't as well painted as JC Hong does on the prototypes. What favors HT is that their drop off form proto to production is significantly smaller than other companies.

Re: Hot Toys Terminator: Salvation-John Connor- spec + hi-res pics

Well if HT's specs are anything to go by, JC & 700 are same height, 600 is two inches taller.

Well, the 700 and the 800 are the exact same size, but this doesn't look two inches taller to me. The 600 is only a head taller at best.

They definately should be nearly as good, if not exact though Maulfan, especially in this day and age, when they are putting out mass produced figures like their godfather! The paint app on that is incredible, i see no reason why thier connor shouldn't mirror that pic, although i understand where you are coming from. It's still a 'factory' head though, if you get what i mean. Like it isn't like his repaint of the joker, something like THAT would take ages, whereas connor still has that factory, albeit perfect touch. Eyes still carry the factory look, hair is still flat looking etc.
One question though, are the mass produced figures going to have the sweat bead look like both this and Marcus have? I think it's wrong to show them with sweat all over them if they don't come like that?

The Godfather paint apps are great, even from factory, I'm just saying, the level that JC gets on the proto is a bit above the factory workers, not by much, HT's factory efforts are usually pretty damn close in quality, but there is a slight drop, and something like the "transparency" of Connors head, I think won't come through as strong in mass production.

As for the sweat, I don't understand that comment, I don't perceive any sweat, just the skin texture and how the lighting of the photos captures it.

As for the "resculpt" comment, they never redid the sculpt and if they did, it's not really noticable, the production head looks identical to the prototype to me.

Cool, i get ya :) Yeah just rechecking some pics myself, there never was sweat lol. I always thought i remembered sweat on this head, just must have been the lighting

I think it was a comibination of the overexaggerated skin texture needed on the prototype and the T:S style lighting and effects of the photos that gave it a sweat look, both portraits look different than most humans from HT, but the shots are done in a way to mimic the movie style.

Oh man, Myatt snapped some premium shots there...that sculpt is jaw-dropping.
