Okay, so I have a question for everyone:

I bought a second DX01 overcoat that I could strip the grenade rig out of so that it sits better. Here's what it looks like now:

It occurred to me that it would look better to just remove the whole panel.

I'm worried that there might be complications with this though. It seems like it would be easy enough to just undo all the stitching, but what about the rivits? Are they actually functional at all or are they just cosmetically fixed to the grenade panel itself? Also, is the red lining in tact underneath the grenade panel? The worst scenario would be to get the panel off to reveal a gaping hole in the lining. :horror

Any insight on the subject would be much appreciated. :peace

On an unrelated topic, if someone has me on ignore will they see a PM sent from me?

That's the concern that immediately comes to my mind.

I don't think anybody can know unless they've done it before, and I don't recall anyone completely removing the panel like that.

I guess you should just take it slow - unstitch one edge and peek underneath to see what it's like. If there's no lining, just stitch the edge back up.

What I can't figure is why there wouldn't be lining there. I mean wouldn't it be more time consuming and less cost effective to have cut a piece out of the lining before sewing the grenade panel on?

It's not like they would be saving money on fabric because that tiny piece wouldn't be of any use to them.

I think there are some here that have done work with the lining, either replacing it or re-dyeing it. I'm hoping one of them can weigh in on this.

I removed the grenade rig and those rivets were glued to the panel on mine. The whole thing is simply stictched to the inside of the jacket so with care and patience it easily comes away without causing any damage to the jacket. There will be tiny little wholes left on the inside of the jacket from where it was sewn but there is nothing you can do. Looks much better without the grenade rig imo, the jacket isn't as bulky and hangs straight down.

And thanks for the seam ripper tip Monkey, I didn't know they existed, and I got this one from Hobby Lobby for $1.99. Made the job super easy, and I'm sure it will come in handy again.:)
