I think what I'm gonna do is get some faux leather or vinyl or something, cut it into the shape of the face, add some straps and fit it on the slicked back BR head, then go to work detailing it with paint. Would be easier than sculpting.

It is too far.

Joker is ****ed in the head, not the face. I remember thinking the Nicholson Joker deformity with the ghastly bullet wound/plastic surgery was too much. Then the Ledger Joker had the bubbly cheek wounds. Those two are about as far as it should go along with the chemical dip or face paint.

Slicing off your face though? That's stupid. I can't get into that. Glad I don't read comics or what's going on currently in Batman's comic world.

Yeah I agree with you and Mags it is too far but I would be still interested to see if cr0w can pull it off!

Oh yeah, I want to see what Crow does with it (I bet it's cool), but I was talking about the comics or whatever. How Joker currently looks.

Ahh cool I was just about to ask you how you planned on doing it. :wink1:

It's reflective of the problems with New 52 in general. There's a overaching editorial POV that the characters all needed to be re-invented in some way. I know there are fans but it's put me off DC. I hope New 52 concludes sometime soon.

All new comic designs of Batman characters are awful imo. They had a chance to take it back to its roots but gave them terrible ott designs and put me right off

I like how unhinged Joker is now in the comics because he's even freaking Batman out, but yeah there's no way I want the face thing to be permanent. I just want to try the custom because that part of me that grew up on '70s/'80s horror movies thinks it'd be fun.

yeah i dont want this to be a permanent change either but i dont think it will. most things arent in comics.

just got the new dx11 body and all the new dx hands except for one gloved pair in the mail: gloves are a much better purple; the bare hands have been dirtied and smudged with makeup with really nice detailing of the hands themselves; the body is a tt adv essentially with the biceps of a tt narrow, the forearms are also dirty, smudged with makeup and the body is much more poseable and also possibly taller than the old dx bodies. a real nice upgrade.

Awesome dude. Definitely looking forward to this.

I like this current joker run, I think it is definitely something that is relatable to the character, but I agree that it shouldn't (and won't be) permanent... I do like the tie back to 70-80s horror though with the face mask idea. The design is great for a more scary limited run (and this current death of the family is definitely a scary prospect).

Damn, I didn't think they would dirty up the forearms and hands. That's pretty cool.

As far as the Joker thing, I think it would be cool for elseworld stuff but not for the main line. I guess I don't really care too much though as I stopped buying comics regularly 5 years ago. I miss them but I just got tired of the same old lame ****. Only things I read now is Vertigo stuff really and the one off trade that someone suggests.

been following the new joker arc and its definitely up there in the pantheon of great joker stories. I feel what some others have said about going 'XTREME' being a kinda gimmicky move, but the writing and art (esp in Batman and Robin) is top notch stuff and kind of contradicts the cheapness you'd associate with shocking for shock's sake. Really thrilling, episodic, slow burn pacing with solid reveals to keep us satiated. Snyder is doing a great job using the episodic nature of the medium to the fullest. Most longtime readers are pretty much in consensus on these points.

as for the face, yeah i can see why some think it's dumb or not aesthetically pleasing. I'm not in love with it but it makes perfect sense in the context of the story, the character's evolution over time, and suits him very well if you go along with Alan Moore and Grant Morrison's iconic interpretations of the character's psyche. It's like he literally externalized the only part of his sickness that has been named and somewhat elaborated upon: his constant self-reinvention, his 'super' (in)sanity. even his explanation for it in suicide squad made sense given the context.

As someone said earlier, I enjoy the occasional off the wall interpretations of iconic characters. I just don't like it as the new established norm.

Leatherface Joker bothers me less that other changes made for the sake of New 52. There were character histories and personalities that were thrown out like something was broken.

I had heard a theory that New 52 was really a Superman copyright retention tactic. Now that DC has a firm lock and is the defacto character owner I hope some of these changes can expire.

I think it would be worth trying to do the mods so that it looks like that. He did a great job and it looks fantastic.

That one was painted by JC Hong though, the eyes are facing upwards instead of to the side in the stock sculpt.

In regards to the new Joker I haven't read much of the story as I went away from comics for a while about the time that arc started and yeah I'm not really digging Joker's new look. I will say that I bought some of the issues I missed since quitting most comics and the story isn't bad. Bad thing about comics though is that you have to buy like 10 different characters issues just for one story. Gets costly.

addendum to my write up on the new dx body: it's not any taller however the foot pegs seem to be possibly adjustable. i'm not sure how well they will hold at a different height but it might require a small mod. anyway, i cant be sure until the new shoes arrive cuz the bodies arent compatible with the old pegs and/or shoes.

as for the new joker look: i also think it works really well within the context of the current storyline and the conceit of joker proposed by moore and morrisson, in particular. but beyond 'death of the family' i dont really want joker to keep this look.

and i agree, laudinum, this is definitely one of the great joker tales, for sure. the way he is both paying tribute to and mocking batman with the grotesquely bastardized mask and 'utility belt' is kind of genius. the only great issue i see with a storyline like this is potentially the payout being minimized by the basic lack of finality for all major characters. nothing remains in comics. or rather, everyone does in long running books. a story like this might have been better served as a limited series or standalone graphic novel. but regardless, it's a great read.

Yeah overall the New 52 is too confusing for me, even with Batman alone...The weird time crunch bugs me the most...nearly everything before the new 52 happened...but in a much shorter time period!

That being said, Leatherface Joker as a permanent change? No thank you. Perfect for Snyder's arc? Yes. And Snyder's arc is worth it for sure, up there with the best of the best Joker stories everyone knows and loves.

Also, I decided to buy a second DX11 and will be selling accessories. Would prefer to sell to someone all at once on here. I don't want to make a thread till I have it in hand around late-mid Feb/March so just a heads up. PM me if interested or just wait for the thread.

Not to go too far off topic, but I agree with most of this. I do like some aspects of the new 52, some character designs are great, and contrary to others opinions, I really like the new designs for superman and batman. But with regards to changing some characters histories, what the hell was up with having tim drake never having been robin? That was ridiculous. He's always been my favourite robin and has had some great stories. Really annoyed by that.

Also, anyone have any theories as to what's on the food plate at the end of all the current titles in death of the family?

You put it very well, 'paying tribute and mocking batman with a grotesque, bastardized mask and utility belt'....very much something a Jester would do. Yeah don't forget the never before explored God-King theme.

I agree and disagree with the lack of payout issue. I like what they've done with Jason Todd over time and his big return but I'd prefer it if he had stayed dead. I'd prefer it if Babs stayed in the chair (sounds bad but it's kind of a slap in the face to the huge handicapped following that char developed). Next thing you know, Sarah Essen is going to crawl out of the Laz Pit cackling with an evil grin!!!

Then again, this is the medium. It's all about reader retention, the next new big event, the latest crossover, the new shocking turn of events...all while bringing everything back around so everyone can have their pie and eat it too. It's the pulpy and cheap but fun quality to the medium that hasn't disappeared despite its literary and artistic ambitions.

One thing is for sure, I'm EXPECTING something bland at the least and Jason Todd level at the most so if the contents of the cloche or dome is something more, then I'll be pleasantly surprised. Still, a dead character, even for a while, is significant. Loved Grayson (lol my original post with his shortened first name was censored) as Bats and part of that was knowing it was temporary. Like I said, having pie and eating it too.
