i thought it would have thigh add-ons, but nope: just fat thighs made fatter by a padded unitard. see below for more details.



i wanted to see if i could fix the lower body articulation be removing the fat thighs and allowing the suit more "give". well, as stated above, no fat thighs, but removing the padding on the suit did make a big difference!

he can now sit like a normal figure ought to ~ and can crouch pretty well too. probably will sit just beautifully on the batpod too.

this is not the faint-hearted (i should add: my own dx12 is still in pristine condition; this is an extra body i picked up for a good deal).

the unitard is glued to the body and the suit is sewed on and glued over that, so removing everything was very perilous. damaging the armor and the suit is nearly unavoidable because you have to crack the armor off, then un-stitch the back of the suit, scrape all the glue, and then pull the little booger down making sure to clear one piece at a time. takes a lot of patience.

once off, articulation is massively improved on the lower body, but there's tradeoffs: the knees pull up (you can see in the photo above), and you have to loosen the top of the codpiece, so that will require permanent degrees of futzing when you pose him. if you try to keep it glued, it will torque stupidly or else prevent you from getting deep bends.

i'm not sure yet what i am going to do with this now that he's undone ~ either put him back together as batman or convert him into a jospeh gordon-levitt nightwing. we'll see.

Well, the knee pads sort of have to get pulled up to allow that much crease on the waist. Or are you saying that they're higher up than the stock ones?

yeah, i love my wacom ~ it's old, but it's awesome!

as for the knee pads, they're just creeping up because of the pull at the waist. if he kneels, they are facing forward instead of being under the knee. i need to put boots on him to see if the suit itself creeps too high.

Now that's a must do mod:clap, now Bats will definitely be able to be prosed on the BAT-POD! Did you use the same base body after removal and replacement of the suit? Would you be concerned about the glue residue reacting with the new mesh/rubber suit?

Holee crap. I was going to do it with the extra I got from TA, but that speaks for itself and looks like its worth the risk.

thanks! i think it will solve the pod problems, most definitely. i did use the same exact body so there's no concern about foreign glue or anything weird. i guess you could re-glue the suit, but it might once again hinder articulation if it's too tight.

bats does lose a little weight when you remove the padding, so you may have to take a link off the belt to make it fit right.

i also forgot to say: those images were taken without any artificial support ~ he can hold those poses with no problems. the deep bends may cause stress on the rubber at the crotch and knees over time, i am guessing.

i am very pleased with the possibilities (while keeping my other dx12 intact). i figured if it was a disaster i would use the body to make a nightwing, but now i may need another body for that.

without the padding the suit is pretty loose on the body, but holds its shape (might just need more futzing than previously). there is a little bit of "pooch" on the inside thigh but if you pull the suit down, it evens out.

i put the alternate belt on him and it's not too bad ~ maybe looks a little big in the back, but the cape would normally cover it.

also, did i mention he hasn't got his leg extenders on? so he's a little short here.

You definitely did a great job. I never would have thought about trying that.

That does look great! And the pants don't look stretched or saggy at all! Dammit! And here I thought the last mod I would be doing is the 2 piece shoulder pad mod. Looks like I need to start figuring out how to take this sucker apart

thanks! because of the rubber pieces, the suit really holds up. like i mentioned, there's a bit of sag high up on the inside thigh and maybe the butt sags a tiny bit, but the butt should be covered anyway and the inside thigh can be futzed.

I never took issue with the size of the thighs, but I'd love the ability to pose him in a crouched position.

Argh not more mods! :lol Guess I might not be done after all.

and here i was perfectly happy foregoing all the other many mods ~ this was the only thing i wanted that he didn't have for me and i got tired of waiting for someone else to do it.
