I do hope Rey at least keeps the staff for the following movies though. I know it might seem a bit redundant or unnecessary now, but if Luke could continue to carry around a blaster with his lightsaber (at least through ESB), then Rey should be able to continue carrying her staff I think.

And there may still be times when she'd like to defend herself without cutting someone's arm off in the process. ;)

While I appreciate the smallest of details as well, this is also a case for me where it just doesn't bother me all that much. The reason being because they're all supposed to be the same lightsaber.

I can understand how it would be bothersome for some, but it just isn't for me for that reason.

I guess it depends how much you want to nitpick. Props have a tendency to change a little with each new movie. Like others here have said, it would be a different ball of wax if they did something stupid like give her the ROTJ saber which a completely different construction/look.
This is Luke's first saber, it's the one she is supposed to have.

$145.59 after RPs at Sideshow for the Rey/BB-8 set. Preorder is set and ready to go. I suspect this is a figure that will hold its value well. All of the Star Wars figures seem like they will.

I feel a bit dirty getting a NT figure before any OT ones...but I'm waiting on some specific designs, so that will make up for it later on.

I'm really hoping for a code sooner than later. SSC doesn't do the Low Quantity Alerts anymore and I'm waiting to see if I can save a few pennies going direct.

So if I'm understanding right, HT is including a lightsaber that is more accurate to ESB than the one used in TFA? Normally I'm a big one for accuracy when it comes to 1/6 figures, but this is one time where I just don't really see the problem. Especially since it's the ESB saber that she's actually supposed to be using.

Anyway for me it's close enough as long as it's got those cut-outs in the grip (and I suppose doesn't have the ANH bubbles on it). All the other tiny differences don't really bother me much.

The differences in the ESB vs TFA saber are really minor so it doesn't really bother me, but admittedly I do think it's too bad they couldn't get the ANH version for Luke as there are a number of differences with that one and the bubble strip also matches the style of both Hot Toys Obi-Wan and Vader sabers. And they did a great job on those two. There's even a G for Graflex on Obi-Wan's. Are they just going to recycle Vader's saber too even though it's different in Empire?
To me it's similar to Han's blaster. There's never a discussion of him having decided to change the scope on his blaster. We can just assume it was modded a bit. Yet most companies go through the trouble of making the correct blaster.

I think I'm just gonna use my RP and get her for free :lol I have just over $1k in RP anyhow, and I remember someone saying, because the prices of figures are going up, the value of the RP are more now than later. :lecture

Damn, if I had that much I'd get the Prime 1 Bermejo Batman for free. That's awesome.

Eh I don't care if it isn't lighted. I was planning on displaying her with the lightsaber from ANH Luke, so getting any saber with Rey is just a bonus at this point

I know it's a rarely used feature, but it's always nice to have the option of it being lighted.

Yeah it's cool they made the changes even if saber doesn't light up....they didn't have to do what they did.

Wasn't this just a PR spin?

I find it hard to believe Hot Toys did not plan on eventually including these accessories with Rey's figure. Although they only take a few minutes of screen time, something like the light saber is such an integral part of the movie/character.

More than likely, it was just an embargo to not reveal too many spoilers (in the promo prototype pics) before enough people had seen the film.

In any event, I'm glad these accessories are being included.

That explains the saber. But not the revised reveal desert sculpt.

Only things "missing" (and I put it in quotes because these are far from deal breakers) are an unlit saber hilt and the Stormtrooper rifle that she runs around with on Starkiller base. Both would be pretty easy to give to her from other figures though. She also briefly wears Finn/Poe's jacket (man that coat gets around :lol) as she and Finn head toward that big ladder outside the base.

A vintage X-Wing helmet for Rey would have been a cool touch as well since Luke came with his blast shield training helmet.

The Rey moment putting on the X-Wing helmet was one of my favorite scenes in TFA - I don't know why but that fan service was real touching (as well as giving insight into Rey's character).

It's too insignificant of a scene for Hot Toys to replicate but it would have been nice to have that helmet as an accessory for Rey. It would also unnecessarily raise the cost of the figure since it may require another head. Luke's Hot Toy's training helmet and hat requires switching out to a slightly deformed head.

In other fan service moments, Finn can also be paired holding the training droid/ball from Luke's figure.

It's more significant than Luke's floppy hat and goggles that were cut from the film, but it's not surprising they didn't include it. I want her x-wing pilot voodoo doll too and the AT-AT foot to have her lean against...and a 1/6 scale Jakku.
