I would think it would be a completely different outfit just because in movie time a couple years (or more) might have passed between this film and the next.

It would be shame if she gives up the pole dancing, because we never got to see her pole dancing outfit.

I am all for accuracy, really. But...I admittedly am so surprised at how much negative backlash the saber gets because it's not the exact prop replica used.

To be fair, all of them are all Luke's blue saber. That isn't changing. All tweaks made to the original prop, in the end, don't change the fact that it's still Luke's blue saber.

And look, what does Rey come with? Luke's blue saber, which, last I checked, was the saber she had in the movie. That's more than acceptable. It's not like they're giving her the green ROTJ hilt. Maybe I'm just easier to please.

I think the point is that most of us buy Hot Toys as center pieces of our high-end collections. We don't buy too much Hasbro to throw in the toy box. We do so because Hot Toys (at least in theory) shares our passion for these pieces. And as adults feeding our insanely expensive hobby (again, as opposed to kids filling up a toy box) it's all about detail, accuracy, and presentation. So when Hot Toys, our go-to vendor, drops the ball on accuracy and detail for these $220+ figures, there's some significant disappoint.

Some of us are more passionate about these items, than others, of course, but in cases like these, I don't think it's too much to ask that the production designers spend an extra minute or two studying the source book, and/or maybe spend a bit more time convincing the suits that retooling for the correct accessory is the "right" thing to do.

At any rate, I think enough people care about this kind of thing as to make it a real issue...

I should really clarify and add, I get it. I really do understand -why- it frustrates folks. Evey point you made is completely valid, QuiGonFishing! But for some reason, this is one of those things that just doesn't bug me? Like I said, maybe I'm easier to please in this regard.

I think issues like the non-working grappling hook on the Farmboy Luke is a MUCH bigger faux pas than the saber. Which I'm sure many people would think is a sacrilegious statement comparatively. But by the winch not working, you lock folks out of a pose that I suspect many people intended to do. All three of the blue saber hilts will look nearly indistinguishable in a future's hand. I know hanging from a belt is a different story though.

But in the end, at least personally, it's this strange perspective for me; I understand and can completely sympathize with the why, yet I am entirely apathetic to it. And that's not a knock on those who care, as I truly do see why it irritates them.

I'm sure it's simply to save tooling costs in the end, but at the same time at least the saber remains consistent across one's shelf, further solidifying that it is Luke's, you know? That's a sort of upside.

Here's how I look at it (and I'm the same way with full scale prop replicas): I want a replica or figure that represents the character or item in the fictional universe that is portrayed in the film. I'm not looking for a perfect replica of the found item used to make the prop or a perfect miniature version of an actor.

The lightsaber doesn't bother me because it's meant to be the same lightsaber in all the films, so in my mind, that's what it is, despite minute differences in the actual prop. I'm also the same way when it comes to sculpt likenesses. I am happy If the figure captures the essence of the character, even if it's not a perfect likeness.

The TPM had the weirdest looking light sabers, except for Maul. glad they changed the look in AOTC and ROTS.

Wait Anakin's saber didn't look like Luke's original saber?

Wait before we go any further, have we decided yet if we're going to refer to the blue saber as Luke's or Anakin's? :lol

All levity aside though, I tend to refer to it more as Anakin's than I do Luke's. Either Anakin's or the Skywalker family lightsaber in general. I know there has been very subtle changes (I tend to lean more towards the group of not being too bothered by it if say for instance they used the ANH version for Rey), but for all intensive purposes, they're all the one in the same 50 something year old lightsaber.

Have you seen the YouTube videos explaining how Maz got hold of the saber. They have some interesting theories

1. Luke went back to Bespin and found it
2. A resident of Bespin found the saber
3. Maz acquired the saber through galatic trading

There are more

Interesting. Based on those, I'd be more inclined to think that two happened first, and then ultimately three.

Wasn't there a scene in the film though where just before the FO raided her castle/bar, Solo asked her how she acquired it and she stated that it was a story for another time? The implication seeming there's more to it than just a simple answer.

Yeah they're both really cool looks. I get the impression I'm going to be switching between them pretty frequently.

Of course my favorite is this one with the vest and lightsaber. We don't really see it in the movie, but it's so awesome I'd still love to have it on my shelf anyway. :)

Love the vest look! Wonder if they'll give us an end of the movie visiting Luke version or if we'll have to wait for the next movie for a new version of Rey. I'm in for as many versions of her HTs wants to put out. Loved the character! Odd, but to me the drawing of her in the vest you posted looks more like Christina Ricci than Daisy.

So if I'm understanding right, HT is including a lightsaber that is more accurate to ESB than the one used in TFA? Normally I'm a big one for accuracy when it comes to 1/6 figures, but this is one time where I just don't really see the problem. Especially since it's the ESB saber that she's actually supposed to be using.

Anyway for me it's close enough as long as it's got those cut-outs in the grip (and I suppose doesn't have the ANH bubbles on it). All the other tiny differences don't really bother me much.

Speaking of which, I was just doing a search and found this other cool piece of Rey artwork (I think from someone on deviantart):
