Very tempting.. while I like the FO Troopers, still slightly nervous of HT's rep with rubber and pleather and the new Snowtrooper's helmet looks great, but not so sure about the chest armor (looks kinda like a bib).. but this figure seems to tick all the boxes.. it's black.. it's a clear development from the original TIE pilot.. it's black.. it looks cool.. did I mention it's black?

The asymmetrical design is part of the appeal to me. Also the flat blacks against the shiny.

This is definitely one "trooper" whose design could be said an improvement over the original (or at least I can see a more drastic and interesting evolution here).

Generally I've found that when there's a huge push in merchandise BEFORE a film opens, it generally means the film is weak and they are trying to cash in on the hype prior to the truth being revealed. You can see this every day in advertising when there's mass marketing of a film, like say "Black Mass", and then the films comes out and well... heavy promotion of anything is generally a bad sign. If the film is great, you don't need to spend the money; people WILL talk about it.

That said, STAR WARS has a long history of pre-hype. And an even longer history of crazed interest. So it's probably unfair to pre-judge the film based on the greed of licensors.

The movie was originally slated to come out near the summer time but was pushed back while companies who already had the license needed to move product in time for 4th Quarter this year. Having merchandise out early isn't a reflection of how good or bad an unfinished movie is. It's more of a strategic move for Licensees to capitalize on the Holiday seasons.

Im expecting the film to be decent. Nothing spectacular, but adequate. Since this is Disney's first outing, I'd guess they wanted to make a 'safe' film just to get the ball rolling. Plus all the PT backlash probably scared them away from doing anything particularly risky. Their priority wasn't to make a thought provoking film, just put something out there to sell some tickets and tack on a bunch of merchandise so they could get some kind of return on their initial investment.

WE haven't even reached the heroes yet- cripes 2016 is booked up with all TFA....and any OT goodies to come. HT has gone SW insane....Howard shows what he likes..

This looks great. But I would like an "Elite" version. I don't know what of these I'll actually be able to get.

Looks incredible. Can not wait for the Special Forces Pilot. Might get two of those and only one of this normal version.
