would it not make sense then to use laser scanning as a base then...to get the geometry and broad strokes correct, and then go from there with the details, corrections, skin texturing etc...?

Yeah I'm pretty sure they don't have access to snipes, the technology (to both scan the face and make molds from that scan), or the original scan. The MS figure probably got their scan from the film's production crew that they used for the CG Blade which appears in several scenes. I'd be willing to bet those files don't even exist anymore.

This is all conjecture, but if it was possible and feasible I'm sure HT would start with a scan if they could. I'm also betting while they have a lot of good traditional clay sculptors they don't have much in the way of a CG modeling department.

C'mon, is that hard to pick a MS Blade head (I saw 1 MS Blade on E-bay US 89,00), make a mold, and then start to improve the sculpt? It would look a LOT BETTER, i'm sure!
I saw a lot of great customs here, made by talented amateur peolple.
HT is a BIG company, with lot's of $$$$...I can't believe they can't improve on MS head...

Why would HT take an existing head sculpt and work on it? Even if HT is a big company, what sort of magic machine do you think these sculptors use to put out perfect sculpts? They don't use laser scanning tech like MS does. It's an iterative process.

Well, take a look at the details and skin texture on the MS sculpt and compare it with HT's. The MS head sculpt looks cheap and smooth.

I'm more than happy to point out the obvious to those who can't see it themselves.

They said that for Wolverine as well. Sure it looks like them. It just doesn't resemble them. They have acquired the rights, authentically, it doesn't mean they have to apply them accurately. They did a great job on Marcus. Didn't do much for Wolverine, and I expect only a slight improvement for Blade, such as a pointier widows peak.

It seems to me that prices might be coming down. There's a heap of costuming and accessories with this one, and for $140 shipped, it looks like a good deal to me. If they dropped the price more, it would resemble a good deal as well.

totally agree...likeness rights does not mean that it will be the same ...it's up to the sculpt I think...

I preferred the HT Military Snipes sculpt to the Toy Biz, scanned or not.

Personally I think the new sculpt is the best. Immediately recognizable IMO. Maybe not perfect but certainly more Snipes than Terrance "I bring Iron Man to a screeching halt with every appearance" Howard.

I don't collect any of the Marvel Hot Toys but this one is making a strong case. The sculpt is awesome, costume exact, just an overall great figure might have to bite the bullet and pick this one up. Should be cool to see how this line turns out with it's future releases.

First, i'm not comparing the quality of the pieces. It's OBVIOUS that the HT has better details, texture, etc. and it's really STUPID to compare the quality from 2 pieces with 6 years apart.
I'm talking about LIKENESS, i said that one LOOK like WS, the other NOT, period.
Second, i know there are HT FANS here that close they eyes and accept everything that the company does saing that's perfect...
Sorry, but i work hard for my money and U$140,00 is not cheap, and for that price i demand NOTHING BUT PERFECTION.
Just like wolverine, it's a piece of crap (in terms of LIKENESS)!!! If you insist to see jackman there ok, you're a HT fan i'll not discuss with you, there's no point.
Enterbay Jackbauer is a work of art (crapy body, but screw it), but EB Godfather was a giant crap.
HT Dutch is a piece of art (I have one), like wesker, godfather, etc.
But Wolverine and Blade can't match those...It's a fact!!! Does it mean that they are bad quality figures? NO, they're great but they DON'T LOOK LIKE THE ACTORS THAT PLAYED THEM, and if i wanted a generic fugure i would look anywhere else or make one myself.
If i pay high i DEMAND high.
