Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK's Joints!

You are wrong for wanting an all rubber figure :slap

Why, because of the limited articulation? :lecture If I want a super poseable Hulk, I will go for the Marvel Select action figure.

I am paying hundreds of dollars to get an almost life-like Hot Toys figure w/o seen joint lines.
I understand that older rubber body figures had some issues but look at the recent ones (eg. Batman DX09) ...it's cool! Actually it's great.

So... back to subject: now, I read another post that says his elbows and knees are fixed but we'll get interchangeable full arms!

:cuckoo:

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

Hot Toys said in an interview that Hulk would not be completely rubber, yes? That is to say, some part of him would be rubber. Given that every joint besides the elbows is exposed, then the only part that could be rubber is the arms.

The knees have joints that are covered by the pants/shorts. So far what we have "guessed" is that the arms are fixed at the elbow but move at the shoulder and wrists for swap out hands. All speculation of course.

Rubber sucks and the point for posable figures is to be posed, rubber limits that too much, but I still prefer it be rubber and have some articulation than fixed, solid, unmovable arms. But in reality, I want exposed joints. If you are looking for life like and no joints, a statue will suit you better.

In the same interview, they said Black Widow's hair would be sculpted. And the knees have joints, a few pic show the joint line similar to the Berserker Pred.

:lecture All speculation at this point.

the elbow may have articulations (joints under the rubber) but that's just my guess. if they are willing the sacrifice the shoulder parts, they might as well do the same on the elbow, but they didn't so i'm guessing there's maybe a joint underneath

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

I don't get the love for rubberized bucks. They're hard to pose, easy to tear up and have a much shorter shelf life. If you're paying hundreds of dollars for it, why not go for the more durable/poseable option?

Yep, no buying if only one head. This one is a must.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

There's one thing that's hard to understand, and maybe someone here with actual knowledge of how rubber degrades or holds can elaborate on, but my DX Bats is showing signs of degradation (very small cracks in many places, mainly butt and thighs), while King Leo is still absolutely flawlessly mint. Both have been posed in a very simple stance (no bending of any sort that would stresss the rubber), yet why is there a difference already? I look at Leonidas and this figure's rubber looks like it will hold for decades. Hopefully if HT uses rubber for any Hulk part, it will be the best rubber available.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

am i the only one who wants to see the back of this figure? I wanna know if they gave him the huge back he had in the film.

Because of this:

Now some will see this and just say 'so what?' But why is it acceptable for a $350 figure to just degrade over time ? why should we be cool with that? :gah:

If you bought a rubber Hulk and out of the box, it had a crack on its arm where the rubber had split apart, you would expect HT to replace it, right? HT doesn't want to replace these things, it would cost them a lot of money to just give away free hulks. So its understandable why they'd want to avoid this type of scenario from happening. And cause people were complaining about.....visible joints :horror.... fixed arms were the best possible alternative they could give us (and hopefully some swap out arms)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

You're entirely right of course, but surely there are different qualities in various rubber materials. It's HT's job to find the best of the best and use that if need be. The Leo example above is obviously a case where the owner tried to have the fig pull a Rocky on top of the stairs.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

Haha, the idea that Marvel Select is super poseable. Hot Toys is way more poseable than Marvel Select. I just want my Hulk to be super poseable, I don't need any rubber or sculpted immoveable arms.

It's not about the quality of rubber. It comes down to chemistry. Almost all polymers will degrade badly over time. The chemical composition of polymers are such that oxidation (or light and heat exposure) will severely break down the chemical bonds holding the material together. Polymers will naturally harden and become brittle the longer you have it. Then add forcibly changing the rubber shape as it ages and you have accelerated deterioration.

Maybe cutting edge rubber can have a slower degradation time, but the cost will go up. I think from a material point of view, this is HT's best option at this time. Personally, for this reason I'd rather see a sacrifice in articulation than have a rubber arm to cover up the joints.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS - The Avengers: HULK

Which-so-ever-way it falls. I'm buying this from OSB.

HULK SMUSH!
