Because P. is always around :lol

You see, it's always the same. There's no stoppin' what can't be stopped.

For me P2 > P1

Simply bcuz it's a more complicated and interesting story, and characters (even the creature itself) has more development but not too much to ruin the fun. Where original movie was your typical kinda-military-action gone perfect, sequel got improved on every aspect w/o making it same-story-new-script.

I can't watch them separately tho, it's always 212 minutes of pure happiness!

I must admit to finding it strange that you guys prefer the sequel over the original with Predator but to prefer T2 over T1, you probably think is silly.

In terms of major sci-fi/fantasy franchises I prefer the first Terminator, the second Predator, and the first Alien. I think in all of those cases I prefer the movie that has more horror elements over the more actiony ones. I never really thought about P2 that way but maybe it could be said it has more horror elements than P1? I don't know, never really considered that before.

I didn't feel this way at first, but now I must say I do prefer T1 over T2. While T2 is the better film in terms of... well, almost everything, T1 is a much easier and smoother watch. I'm not always in the mood for the sequel, but the original is a pleasure to put on every time. Solid pacing, great introduction to the character, and its simplicity is its strength.

As for the Predator movies, I also prefer the first to the second but for a different reason this time around. P1 is by far a better flick than P2, P2 being superior only in effects and the little geeky elements we've come to love about the character. You can't beat Arnold and a solid action movie script. Commando with Predator > Lethal Weapon with Predator.

I like predator and alien not because the movie, i like them because i like the design of it..

Cuz T2 is silly.
They took something very stylized and atmospheric... and made it too big to keep it such. (dunno if it makes sense, I hate my Engrish)

I love it as a nostalgia piece and something that we probably will never see again. Not as a good sequel to a solid movie, it is not.

I get what you mean. That's another thing, T1 has a certain tone that T2 completely lacks. The second film almost feels watered down in that department, maybe that's why I find the first so much easier and more fun to watch.

I watched it all. Again. I'm hopeless.

Seeing Winston goofing around squeezes laughter and tears out of me...

2013 wasn't helpful in convincing me that modern Hollywood can produce better films.
On the contrary it made me even more pessimistic.

Agreed on those points for the first Terminator and it was on the basis of those points that I remember voting for T1 as the superior film in one of the many polls this forum has had on the subject. However more recently I guess I'm just facing up to the probability that I quite simply prefer T2. Why otherwise does my T2 collection so heavily outnumber my T1 collection? (well, fewer T1 toys have been made so there's that)

It sounds to me that with Terminator you feel that the original film dictates what a Terminator film should be and yet with Predator the same doesn't seem to apply. With Predator you are content for a sequel to dictate what a Predator film should be. I suppose that's what I find strange. Why shouldn't the original Predator film also be the benchmark since that is the case for Terminator?

Maybe the Terminator being a mechanical character creates an expectation in the audience of how his films should play out. With Predator, we're talking about a living creature. Lots more gray areas to explore with something like that.

Cuz...
Nothing in P2 contradicts anything from P1 if you watch them both in a row w/ comic-booky glasses off.

Original Predator is a very simple story, it's just got lucky all around (same with Die Hard).
Original Terminator is a little piece of art of its time, from beginning to end.

With Terminator we know everything we need by the end of the second act.
It drags you not only with banal fear of death but horror of realization that we are creators of our own doom and with Sarah dies our only hope for survival and redemption.

I prefer the original cuz it's self-contained and sequel didn't bring anything new to the table, just made it all BOOM and WOW.

______

With Predator the only two things keeping you there are characters and the mystery behind something so different from us yet so alike.

I prefer the sequel cuz it has more characters, more story and (oddly enough) even more mystery.

I wish I could bring myself to pull the trigger on this guy since I missed the original, but I'm kind of Predatored out! (Similar to how I feel about the Iron Man figs) Can't bring myself to buy one of these guys unless they're significantly different from the ones I already own.

Still...there's no denying it's an amazing figure.
