But the death trooper helmet is smaller than stromtrooper

These Death Troopers were taken from some original concepts by Ralph McQuarie (original concept artist for Star Wars). This is why they are tall and thin compare to all other troopers. I guess a big helmet on a tall thin death trooper wouldn't have looked proportional. May have looked like one of those bobble head things :)

Maybe if you don't like the way ol palps runs the galaxy you should run for emperor. Be the change you want to see!

:lol I vote TurdFurgusonsHat for emperor following the terrible events of Endor. He has the vision that will restore the Empire to greatness!

:rotfl I appreciate the confidence. With no superweapon available to hold the galaxy hostage and a large portion of the stormie's heads on the pikes of the ewoks I think the first order of business will be to call in the deathtroopers, wherever the hell they are. Those guys look pretty vicious.

Great pictures, Derek!

Other than HT's first Death Trooper, what makes this guy "The Specialist"? Does he have a 'special' assignment in the movie? An assassin?

And why does Sideshow's 1/4 "Specialist" have the 'light/scanner' on the side of his helmet but HT's does not...?

I'm under the impression that "Specialist" comes from all the extra gear he has. Grenades and bombs around his chest/waist.

That's why I was keen to see what he looks like without all that gear. If it's removable, you have in theory 2 figures in one. "Specialist", and "standard" Deathtrooper in one.

No idea about the scanner on the helmet. Maybe HT will introduce one without the grenades with the scanner helmet etc. Sort of like what they did with the TFA troopers, heavy gunner, flame trooper etc etc

But that's just my best guess.....

From what I've gathered, Sideshow got the helmet wrong. The specialist does not have the extra helmet scanner thingy but does have all the extra gear, the reg. Deathtrooper has the extra scanner thingy on his helmet but does not have all the extra gear.

So I'm trying to work out how many figures Hot Toys will do for Rogue One ? When I look at other franchises like say Suicide Squad (which I would consider comparable size wise) they did 5 figures until now. Perhaps more to come ?

For bigger franchises such as Avengers also all main characters. But it is difficult to compare as Avengers and Star Wars saga movies have more time to spread the character releases. So also considering Rogue One is Star Wars (one of their main franchises), and a one off. My guess is that they must be planning say 5-7 figures.

Currently we have : Deathtrooper, Shoretrooper, Jedha Stormtrooper, Tie Pilot and Vader. Although the last 3 of those borrow pretty heavily from existing moulds. So that means 2 "new" figures.

This leaves the main characters,

4). Jyn
5). Krennic
6). K-2SO
7). Cassian Andor
8). Baze Malbus
9). Chirrut Imwe
10). Saw Gerrera
11). Bodhi Rook
12). Mon Mothma ??

Looking at this I actually doubt they'll do that many. But I'd say the first 4 for sure. Baze and Chirrut I'm not sure about. Bodhi depends how much of a role he plays.

What do you all think ?

I'd stop at 7 on your list + tank trooper and variants of the troops or already done heroes. Donnie Yen seems possible too. Also, tough to say if they're planning to market figures we've already seen like the Death Star trooper and gunner as being from Rogue One.

Donnie Yen seems to have quite a following in the States. Although from what I can make of it Donnie Yen's character and Base seem to be pretty close. So I guess it could be either both or none.

Others like Space Monkey (Bistan) and Pao (the one with the big mouth) have also been pretty prominent in the marketing up until now.

There are so many characters when you write them all down.

I'd assume this line will go the way of TFA line....it's started out that way thus far...I doubt we will get all the heroes maybe the core whoever that turns out to be

Still no poe from tfa, no tarkin from anh. HT seems to love making star wars troopers but humans not as much. I would shorten that list quite a bit. No way I will commit to buying anything before seeing the film. Sight unseen I am most interested in krennic and maybe a couple death troopers to go with. The film will have to impress though, I am running out of space and need to conserve it for OT stuff.

Outside of all the troopers, TFA now has Ren, Chewie, Han, Rey, BB-8, Other Rey, Finn, 3PO, and R2. So 9 figures, but a lot of them have re-use potential (Chewie is a partial rerelease, two Reys), which is a problem for Rogue One since these characters are likely to not appear again in any films.

Yeah, that was my thought as well. It's a one off film, much like Suicide Squad was (I guess). Anyway time will tell. I'm going to get the Deathtrooper even though I haven't seen the film, he looks to be the poster boy of the film going by all the merchandise etc.

I'm almost tempted to check out some of the Figurearts figures instead of going with HT for this movie. They have the droid, which seems like it might be an interesting figure, and the troopers look really nice. Just can't see myself dropping too much money on this movie. Maybe just the HT death trooper specialist and then if some character happens to be really amazing in the film.

Given that this is the size of the actual helmets side by side, the new HT trooper definitely looks undersized next to the ANH trooper (I wouldn't display them together anyway, I guess). Curious how they look with the Rogue One stormtrooper, those helmets looked similar in size to the ANH one.
