I don't know about other figures but the slightly open mouth for Luke is fitting since Hamill spent a better part of the movie like that. The lighting in that pic makes it look a bit wonky but the promo shots are perfect.

My sentiments also. I did a Google image search engine of "Luke Skywalker Return of the Jedi" just to get a rough idea for possible poses and 75-80% of the photos all have him with some sort of teeth bared expression.

I think the expression HT went with on this figure is very suiting.

At the moment I think this one is the winner:

Even though the likeness could probably be improved a tad.... it's still really damn good and personally I'd rather not take the chance of HT tweaking it and somehow making it worse (as we already saw them do with TFA Luke and Jyn).

Yeah that open mouth sucks....
Someone said somewhere it was done because it makes recasting much harder...

Or maybe it because Rey and Luke are related.... Rey’s got the same goofy open mouth

This is the poster I had on my wall as kid. And I believe it was on the cover of an illustrated book I had too. So I'll be going for this look as well.

My initial intent was to put him in his DS final duel look since I was planning on getting Emps as well, but if the sculpt doesn't change on that figure, it looks like this will probably be the only RotJ figure I'll likely be getting. That being the case, I'll just go for having Luke in his Jedi/tunic look. It'd sort of bring his OT journey full circle: ANH Farm boy Luke first receiving lightsaber - ESB Commander Skywalker holding blaster (DX07 clean Bespin) - RotJ Jedi Luke with tunic wielding lightsaber.

With this pose/look, he'd probably look better posed on a Sandtrooper/Jakku trooper sand themed base (or just any sand themed base in general) rather than the DS themed base that it comes with.

You can find just as many screen caps with his mouth closed....

Not a fan of the open mouth....something about his lips seems wrong to me.

You can indeed. The closed-mouth expression would work quite well if you plan on displaying him with the handcuffs on.

I would have been happy with a closed mouth expression too. But really, even in three of the four pics xipotec posted his mouth isn't closed...as was eluded to by SilverStar. :D

Or because it was more less the expression he wore in the majority of the film.

And for the majority of the trilogy as well. As much as I like the confident expression on his face when he first confronts the Emperor, I'd ultimately rather have that open mouthed expression we saw him with most often in the movies.

Looks fine to me. Or at least like they have the right idea. A generic closed-mouth, stoic expression wouldn't have suited this figure.

I finally figured out what I don't like about the sculpt... the hair. The way it's parted so perfectly and voluminous makes him look like a 10 year old in private school. Luke's hair in ROTJ is more moptop than schoolboy. I think the sculpt hair looks too thick as well, as Hammil had fine hair. I've already cancelled this once, maybe I'll just wait for in hand pics.

Yeah, I can see what you mean.

I'm fine with it though. It sort of varied from scene to scene, as in a couple of the pics xipotec posted at the top of the page, it was styled the way the HT sculpt is. Like the expression, I see what they are trying to go for with the hair. A little too perfect as you mentioned, but I see what they're doing.
