To me .....that scene (Bespin Duel) ....is the iconic shot from my childhood....

Now if a Bespin Luke could be found at a reasonable price .....

You don't have to get the entire set, I've seen some single figures at reasonable prices (roughly retail price for what you'd get a HT figure at through SSC). If you're going for that particular scene, I presume the clean DX07 figure would be the one you'd want.

I'll just be sticking with this Luke. I'd rather have fond memories of Luke in or at least close to being in his prime after ROTJ and this look will capture that. Besides the movie being ridiculous, I'd hate to have an elderly Luke figure that basically is incapable of much than creating a "force projection" of himself. Now if Kylo and the KOR showed up and he was tossing people around with the Force, well that might've changed my mind. Instead he wears an elegant Jedi uniform, sees Rey and is like "Nope, time to change to my Hobo outfit."

That force projection is the most powerful show of the force we've ever seen.

Could be but it's not terribly impressive from a visual standpoint or without any context of force powers. Crushing an AT-M6 would have been cool and impressive to everyone. Creating a holo projection that is only a small step up above current Star Wars tech? Not that interesting unless you have a better understanding of force powers and what takes a lot and what doesn't. Even then it's not it was all that exciting either.

It's why I'm sticking with RotJ Luke. Still the best Luke for me.

I’ve seen a ton of interview clips where Mark Hamill is obviously unhappy with the direction they took Luke’s character. He’s been doing a bunch of press junkets to promote the movie like a good little soldier(under contract), but in the individual interviews he’s fine... it’s in the group interview clips that he just looks disinterested, but never outright angry or negative. If you look at the clip of him at Celebration 2017 where he’s onstage with some of the cast along with Rian Johnson and Kathleen Kennedy, he straight up starts going off on a kind of rant before Kennedy interrupts him to do some damage control. I, as I’m sure many, wouldn’t have imagined gleaning from that what the final product would look like... especially because even in ranting, Hamill still seems positive.

There’s also a full crew junket for the European premiere and OMG, that is really where you can tell by his words and body language that Mark did not like this movie and didn’t want to be there.

One thing... the conspiracy theorist in me is thinking... Mark Hamill said in an interview that he actually was on the same page with the direction that Colin Trevorrow wanted to take Luke. However, the way he said it, it almost was with the thought that Luke is still alive for Episode IX... then Trevorrow was bounced from the project and when we finally see in TLJ:

Luke’s fade into the Force was from a distance and behind him! Why would they kill off one of the most iconic characters of all-time without capturing him close-up and in his face?!?

So there is a possibility that he wasn’t notified of the final ending and was taken by surprise!

I know it’s all conjecture, but it sure as hell would explain his lukewarm(pardon the pun) reception to the movie before the completion of post-production, to his outright indifference after the premiere.

Yeah, for me it's pretty clear he wasn't happy. And if he isn't happy, the guy who knows the character the best, then there is clearly something not right.

But there are plenty of forums full of opinion about TLJ.........

He knew about it prior to filming. EW did an interview with him and Rian where they talk about it.

Ah ok, thanks for shooting that down and I’ll end my off-subject post here... and sorry for that crazed fanboy moment. I’m glad he knew, but his attitude in interviews around this movie are consistent and undeniable. Of the 3 main OT actors, I think he cared the most about canon and was deeply affected by the direction that first JJ took by not having a reunion with Luke and Han AND having him for 10 seconds at the end of the movie, and then what direction Rian Johnson took with the character’s state in TLJ. I wonder if JJ will return things to a more safer storyline with Episode IX and I’m really curious what direction Trevorrow wanted to take that got him fired while they allowed Rian Johnson to take the liberties that he did and seeming throw out everything JJ set up for him in TFA.

Lucas planned the same thing for him (maybe without the same end) :

"Apparently, the initial plan for Star Wars: Episode 7 was that Luke, over the course of that movie, would rediscover his vitality and train this new Jedi. So basically, what we got from the Rey/Luke storyline in The Last Jedi was initially supposed to be the bones for George Lucas’ Episode 7"

I have to disagree with the sentiment that if Mark Hamill thinks there's something wrong with the character, then that means there is demonstrably something wrong with the character.

Mark Hamill is simply an actor who portrays the character based on how he's directed/told to portray him, and does a good job at it. Just because he portrays the character doesn't necessarily mean his views and his opinion on the character inherently mean it's the right or wrong thing.

Same principle as movie critics. Just because they're movie critics, doesn't mean that their opinion on a film is somehow more "right" than yours. You both watched the same film. They have an opinion on it, you have an opinion on it.

Hamill himself at the end of many of his interviews, said that he personally disagrees with the direction of the character, but that he hopes that there are people who do like it. I think he's in the camp where it's just simply a shock to see Luke go from RotJ (the last time we saw him on screen), to how he is in TFA and TLJ. Once the shock kind of wears off and what happened starts settling in, I think there are some people (perhaps even Hamill himself) who will come to terms with how Luke was portrayed and realize that how he ended up being later in life, isn't all that shocking after all.

Exactly.

While Mark is a great actor, he is not a writer in the slightest. He pitched, numerous times, that he wanted the antagonist to be an evil Luke clone (Luuke) in the sequels. He also previously thought that Boba Fett should have been revealed to be his Mom in ROTJ.

Look, I'm sad that I won't get to see some of my wet-dreams for Luke, but it wouldn't serve the story or his character. And everyone hating on Rian needs to realize that he had to work from what he was given. And what he was given was that Luke exiled himself to this island for some reason after his academy went to ****. I think a lot of the people who are upset or think it "**** all over Luke's character" are unable to separate what they want to see vs what makes a good story.

:exactly:

I think at some point (not sure if this was the evil clone idea), Hamill even wanted to see Luke turn to the Dark Side. Just because Hamill wanted the character to go in that direction, does that mean it's inherently the "right" direction for the character? I personally would have disagreed with that initially, regardless of what Mark said.

Yeah, I saw that video. Check the related vids with him at Celebration and at the premieres... he keeps it aboveboard, but still, you see the disappointment.

This one especially:
https://youtu.be/4UdWEDbYN_I

It’s the “highlights” of his appearance with the cast and director in the UK.

He straight up dissed one person’s question and is asleep for a lot of it. If you’re up for the full panel, look at his body language... that’s the glaring piece missing from the clipped videos:
