I just think more than anything, if you expect people to use the stand for the eventual 3PO, don't you expect that they'd want the figures to be on an even plane? That's what I find silly.
there's one ring missing in the "neck" on the original prop!
We must remember this is TFA r2. HT did a great job at accuracy. We can't compare OT with ST R2. The ring is there on TFA R2.
I think those waiting are going to be waiting for years before there is another R2, and when HT does make another one, I am sure it will cost more than this one. I have this and the 12pm R2 on order.
I never used any of the pieces the Sideshow one came with when I had it. Hated the flopping panels and lines the opening panels on the head created. Glad we got a straight up plain R2 with lights and sounds.

That was Hot Toys of several years ago. Hot Toys is no longer waiting much time before double-dipping. Just take a look at their announcements of Jedi Luke quickly followed by Endor Luke. There's also the initial Jyn PO followed by Jyn in Disguise. I expect another version of R2 to be announced before the year is out. Spring, at the latest.
I think the issue is probably cameras doing white balance. I think the true color is much more evident in pictures with other figures, like the one with Leia or Rey and Finn.
The comparison pic with the SS is a bit misleading too - I always found the colour on Sideshow's to be too 'cool'.
