I just think more than anything, if you expect people to use the stand for the eventual 3PO, don't you expect that they'd want the figures to be on an even plane? That's what I find silly.

HT could offer up an Exclusive base that has room for R2 with it as well. It's a bit weird that R2 doesn't have one but a nameplate. A backdrop and stand base would have made this release really stand out.

I think those waiting are going to be waiting for years before there is another R2, and when HT does make another one, I am sure it will cost more than this one. I have this and the 12pm R2 on order.

I never used any of the pieces the Sideshow one came with when I had it. Hated the flopping panels and lines the opening panels on the head created. Glad we got a straight up plain R2 with lights and sounds.

I'm in no rush and it will still be cheaper than double dipping.

I'm in no hurry either. The Sideshow R2 is really quite good in its own right, so that's a good enough placeholder for me right now.

That was Hot Toys of several years ago. Hot Toys is no longer waiting much time before double-dipping. Just take a look at their announcements of Jedi Luke quickly followed by Endor Luke. There's also the initial Jyn PO followed by Jyn in Disguise. I expect another version of R2 to be announced before the year is out. Spring, at the latest.

I'm guessing they produced this in smaller numbers since it serves as the base for future R2 units and other droids, but I don't see them previewing a new one in any sort of way until this is at least sold out at most major retailers.

I felt this way with the T-800 DX 13. The liquid T-1000 was never on the same plain as T-800 displayed on a stand! It looked odd having the DX posed downward to interact with liquid T-1000!

Most likely TLJ. They can wait as long as they'd like for OT properties because people will buy them but they'll strike hard as fast as they can with the new stuff.

I think the issue is probably cameras doing white balance. I think the true color is much more evident in pictures with other figures, like the one with Leia or Rey and Finn. I think yellow is obviously an exaggeration but off-white or cream probably isn't.

I'm thinking it won't bother me in the least but you never know until it's in hand. I have yellowish detolf lights so not sure if that will emphasize it or make it blend in better.

The comparison pic with the SS is a bit misleading too - I always found the colour on Sideshow's to be too 'cool'.

In that pic with Leia even the blue looks much more like the OT R2. This thing is a light dependant chameleon. I can't fault anyone for sticking with the more reasonably priced sideshow, it's a solid fig. But just look at Leia next to that shiny metal dome, it's awesome!
