Thanks for the side-by-side comparison pics, James! They’re great!

Honestly I was 100% satisfied with my SS R2, but now seeing these, it makes me rethink getting the HT version! But I would definitely wait for a more “deluxe” version with accessories, and more OT styled.

I think the metal dome really makes a big difference, and that blue enamel-ish paint looks luscious! I like the slightly larger size too. I wonder if HT have finally gotten the height correct?

Only if they don't make their 3PO bigger. :)

I definitely like what HT has done and look forward to the next one. But is there any Star Wars film where R2 does less than in TFA? He's asleep the entire film.

Thanks mad old lu
I don't know if they've got the height correct that's why I've put side and side with yoda
but it is a solid piece it weighs quite a bit unlike the SS version which seems very fragile and cheap

Thanks for the great pics, very much appreciated.

Personally I think that the only things that I actively miss as far as R2 is concerned is him not having a panel on top that you could open and slip a lightsaber in, and not having a data port access arm attachment or a welder arm attachment. Things like drink trays I'd never use anyway, but those would have been nice and made for some real value adding display options. Oh, and a magnetic restraining bolt, too.

Still as a bare basics R2 it looks really good to my eye. But much like old Luke not quite sure just yet if I want to jump on board or wait in the hope of a better option appearing at some point down the track.

The colour of the HT R2 body looks perfect to me. I think peoples' concerns about it being too "yellow" are unfounded.

On the left is a real screen-used R2 that I photographed at the Star Wars: Identities exhibition at the O2 Arena in London last Saturday, and on the right is Andrew Whale's in-hand photograph of his HT R2. Looks pretty damn good to me!! Yes, the blue may be a little too light/bright on the HT R2, but I think the white of the body is fine...

there's one ring missing in the "neck" on the original prop!

Great pics James the Cat! Glad to see that he's overall bigger than the Sideshow version. And thanks for your comparison Timemeddler!

I've took some pictures of my sideshow version at the side of HT's.
It is better than the SS version ? Yes
but is it £200 pounds better ? probably not but the dome looks really nice with it been metal and it's just better executed than SS one.
You feel abit cheated when you first open the HT's one because that's all there is in the box no weapons,no different heads,no hands, no stands and you feel I've just spent £200 pounds for this.

Great shots james...that metal dome makes all the difference...Tamashii take note!

Was really looking forward to this one but the bare bones packaging makes me think it will be smarter for me to just wait for an OT release. Love, love, love that metal dome though.

anyone got the Tamashi 3PO next to this little guy?
Kinda what Im hoping to land.

I think a base and backdrop would have helped for those on the fence and arguing to themselves about being "barebones"!!

For me the inclusion of a base definitely would have made a difference. I might have eventually still decided to wait for the next release, but it would taken more consideration.
