1/6 Hot Toys R2-D2 (Artoo-Detoo) - TFA Version

SS R5-D4 is the only 1/6 that truly impressed me with a huge “WOW” factor seen displayed at a local collectable store (I did not make the purchase). I can imagine that this HT R2 will do the same when I see it displayed too.

That was Hot Toys of several years ago. Hot Toys is no longer waiting much time before double-dipping. Just take a look at their announcements of Jedi Luke quickly followed by Endor Luke. There's also the initial Jyn PO followed by Jyn in Disguise. I expect another version of R2 to be announced before the year is out. Spring, at the latest.

Endor Luke was only on display and not up for preorder. We have no idea when or if they will release it. Also he looks much different than his other looks. Same with Jyn. As much as people hate to admit it, R2 looks the same in all of the movies. Yes there are minor differences but nothing major like Vader or the troopers. I am just saying with 2 high end R2s on the market at the same time a couple years after the last one I can't see them making yet another 6 months later.

Maybe the sheet will come with V2 Batch? But you may still need to get parts from V1 because they have better paint then V2. But maybe the Sideshow V3 batch will fix everything.

My concern is if I display him for a year with the sheet on it will cause staining on the dome.

You have to be willing to take that chance if you care about an accurate screen representation for the bulk of the movie.

I am getting 3 so I can have a custom done of R2 on the island at the end of the movie. I don't think I am satisfied with the V1 or V2 dome so I think I will get a custom sculpt made of R2. Also looking to customize the electronics because I am not happy with the sequence of LEDS, they are not accurate enough to Episode VII, although hoping that maybe the V2.5 corrects this.

A thing that bothers me a bit is the fact that the lights are very simple.

So many lights, and they just change at the same simple pace all the time, just like a toy police car lights.

Tamashii worked on this on their release even if their R2 also has its drawbacks.

I thought I decide on Tamshii R2D2 but this video and other in hand pics has convinced me to get this R2 as well. I'll have two R2s in my collection. Looking forward to getting them side by side. The irony is it looks like both will be released in the same month.

Who makes the best sheet, Kato, Yunsil, or Tony Mei?

Edit: On second thought I'll just get in on each of the runs and see which one I like best in hand. I wonder if the set will come in under a grand.
