Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Can't imagine after Robo w/Chair being discounted 50% and ED being sold off at firesale prices that they will bother with Cain (regardless of how much of those problems may be attributed to HT themselves). Looks like the line has been a dismal failure for HT thus far.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

well at least cain has no rubber sections so it would come down to just the complex design.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

If you want high quality RoboCop collectibles, better get all of these. Since they probably won't make anymore for a very long time.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Cain would be amazing. But yeah I have doubts. I think technically it would be one of the hardest figures Hot Toys could attempt

View attachment 186531

I mean look at the detail and complexity and balancing it with the weight of the upper body. I'd love it, honest, I'd buy it in a heart beat. And would ideally love this big guy in DieCast. But I think the fact it is such a technical challenge and a bit of a risk from a sales point of view, I have my doubts we see this anytime soon.

But here's hoping. (And that we see release pics of B/D Robo + Murph soon)

I agree its probably a bit too complex for HT although I'm just looking at some of the designs of their recent releases and they are close to the complexity of cain i.e rhino design from spider man 2(although not released it seems) so if any company could feasibly design a cain I'd put my money on it being hot toys.

Yep. Hot Toys didn't help the line by making some pretty key mistakes (rubber again, redubbing ED-209's voice, Robocop's incorrect colour) but it seems like we're niche in the scheme of things anyway. I'll be amazed if they proceed with Cain.

I'm just happy we're getting Alex Murphy and unmasked, damaged Murphy/Robocop. Those seem like pipe dreams that wouldn't have happened ordinarily, especially now a days.

Me? I'd love a Clarence, Cain and blue Robo 2. I'd buy them granted they turned out ok and looked mostly accurate. Those aren't going to happen though. Hot Toys really messed up with how they handled the line AND it unfortunately doesn't seem very popular at all. It's kind of disheartening. I can understand why ED-209 sold poorly and was clearanced since everything from the dome to the electronics were duds, but Robocop himself? Yeah, the color is off and it was about $60 overpriced, but it's still a great, iconic piece. It's getting more and more evident that Asia doesn't give two ****s about anything but Iron Man and MAYBE the Marvel Avengers characters (though, I'm not convinced that they care about anyone but the Iron Man armor). If Robocop, a cool looking robot/cyborg ain't doing it for them, what hope do other non-modern characters have? If they're selling like crap, I can't blame Hot Toys for distancing themselves away from this stuff.

In the end, I'm just happy to have a complete Robocop with all the looks he had in the film. Same with Batman Returns Batman. More would be nice, especially in terms of characters, but I think we're at a stage where these older licenses will be fewer and far between in the next couple of years. I'll take what I can get and be thankful for the sheer amount of what we've got in the past.

On the subject of discounts, I'll be waiting to pick up the BD Robocop/Murphy at a discount. I felt like I was punched in the gut with the past couple of Hot Toys releases. Their prices were almost slashed in half. I got burned buying DX 14, BD Police Shootout T-800, the Batman Armory and Robocop as soon as they came out. If I had simply waited a few months, I'd have saved hundreds. It just goes to show that the prices Sideshow and Hot Toys have been asking are ridiculous. I have no qualms about being stingy, waiting and trying to get a deal., especially on the secondary market. As far as I'm concerned, there is no support in the world that would be enough to make these older lines a focus anyway. Not any more. If waiting to get a deal for this Robocop/Murphy instead of paying full price means that Hot Toys will never revisit Robocop again, then so be it.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

This figure, barring some unforeseen **** up on the final product, will be a really nice finisher. There will be a sense of completion of the line that other licences haven't gotten, so we'll be damn lucky there.

I'm still concerned about Doc Brown from Back to the Future though. I'm guessing whether or not he goes ahead is entirely dependant on how Marty sold. That's entirely down to us in the US and Europe.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Yeah, I can't wait to see the final product photos of this set. Fingers crossed that they didn't mess anything up and it's mostly faithful to the product pics. This Murphy/Robo set is my most anticipated release in awhile. Of course my most anticipated of the "Upcoming Releases" for the month are usually shown last. I'm sure Electro and that gold and black Iron Man are up next for the month. :lol

With BTTF, I think all we'll see is The Delorean and Marty. I can't see them doing Doc when they won't even do other things from other lines. Besides, judging by their latest work, I just don't see them nailing Christopher Lloyd's likeness, let alone that hair. :lol It seems like they've either hit a plateau in their sculpt advancements with no more room for improvement or they just feel like their output is "good enough" for a lot of these characters.

Yep, well said on all of that. In regards to discounts, I've also decided a while ago that I won't be pre-ordering anything anymore unless there is a true risk of sell out (not that I bought it, but Stealth IM Mark VII would be a good example). There's been quite a bit of stuff heavily discounted or incentivized with double/triple rewards that I wouldn't have predicted. Can't think of any regular release that I've wanted that sold out (maybe Groot and Rocket exclusive but waitlists on that are converting almost instantly, it seems).

That's how I feel. I'm not getting the regular Murphy, but I've got clean RC and ED (still gotta get around to treating the dome on that...) and BD RC will complete the line. No desire for Clarence or anything from RC2, so have to say it feels good knowing I'm truly done with the line after just 3 figures.

I dunno, I don't think the further we move away from the movies year the less popular the license necessarily. In fact I think it can be quite the opposite. The films become cult classics. I think films like terminator and Robocop are so popular they have actually burned themselves into the conscience of the public(think even about the Robocop statue in Detroit). If you think about it memorabilia from movies like jaws and star wars still sell very well and have a huge fan base and its the same with terminator and Robocop. Just look at the amount of people posting on this thread alone. If it weren't popular there would be very little about it.

As you said we should be just grateful we're getting anything at all from these lines at all and should be happy to extent with what we get. They've covered some great licenses over the years think platoon, predator, aliens, Robocop, commando, back to the future and more and I for one am not knocking them for their efforts in that area. I mean sure they mess up now and again but by and large they usually hit the mark.

Thinking about the complaining of the RoboCop paint job, it really strikes me as funny that the IM guys are *fine* with how off HT's paint/look is on Mark XLV vs how aggrieved so many in here felt about RC (and RC's lack of fidelity to the movie paint wise is about 10,000 times more subtle than the $355 Mark XLV). Gotta say the IM group has the healthier attitude, IMO.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Well that's simple. Robocop is more important than Iron Man :monkey3

Well they can be fine with it, they get multiple Iron Men and revisions every month! If the Mark 45 doesn't have a nice paint job, well, "hey, there's always next year!".

Robocop is certainly a one and done. We get one chance for them to get that right and that is it. I doubt we see 2.0s or 3.0s (or 3.0s and 4.0s if we recall Hot Toys' original ones from their early career). It's not like Iron Man's Mark I, Mark III, Mark 7, Mark 42, etc. where there is a constant rotation and more chances to get a better one down the line. Besides, Iron Man is always changing. Don't like this year's model, well just wait until next year!

Don't like that Robocop paint? Too bad, that's all you're getting. Think the likeness on that Terminator is off and he could use some alternate clothes? Too bad, that's the best you're going to get. Nitpick about Marty? Oh well, that's your only shot. Think Keaton Batman could be better? Sorry, this is the only chance you get at the figure.

Compare that to a side secondary character like Rhodey/War Machine who is bound to get an annual, shiny "new" release that might just work out those kinks. It's gone extremely well for Captain America. Every release gets improved just a little bit more, well, the latest ones any way. Robocop will never get that luxury. That's why I think to some people, getting it right is so important. There aren't any more chances.

That too^

A curious thing though if they aren't getting Iron Man's colour right.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

looks like Robo is not going to be released next week. H.C. Hong just released a teaser HS pic of Raiden "coming soon"

Yes, no disputing that!

Well they can be fine with it...
Many good points made there, DiFabio. I'm very firmly in the 'just grateful it was made' category, so I guess am on the far end of the easily pleased spectrum. ;)

Never played the game, so not familiar with the character, but those are some cool details and a nice interpretation. Like how the hair has that cartoon/videogamey look to it.

Yup, same here. I'll take a silver Robo over no Robo at all.

And honestly, if someone told me that we'd get an accurate Battle Damaged Weller Robocop, I'd find it hard to believe them. If they told me that we'd be getting an Alex Murphy in his cop gear I flat out wouldn't believe them. When the specs/pics went up, I was shocked.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

I'm in the glass half full camp; the quality of these figures is indisputable and the fact that a company like Hot Toys is offering these is incredible. Yes, I too want more than just the main characters of my favorite movies released, but they have to sell enough to justify the production.
