Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

No, I'm waiting.

I don't need this right now. I waited 8 months, I can wait another 4-5-6 when it gets discounted. The past 6 Hot Toys releases I've bought "day 1" have been marked down/had for significantly less. In all instances, I felt like crap and had spending remorse after the fact. I'm not going to be a chump for a 7th time. Waiting will just build anticipation, I'll get it when I get it. Owning it at a later date isn't going to make it any less awesome, and hey, I'll get it for less as a bonus steal.

Wow!
Couldn't do that.
I'm too much of a RoboCop Fan to wait even longer than absolutely necessary.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

I'm not waiting for any discounts personally. Mainly because this is too much awesome and I'm already going to end up waiting an age for it.

But also because sales in the UK are redundant. UK sellers only ever get the stock they need and then STOP re-stocking (in my limited experience at least), Sideshow sales + shipping + potential import = v.little saving.

I'd rather have it, pay for it and forget about it.

Same. Ordering from Sideshow or the UK isn't something I'm doing anymore. Shipping and import costs with the former renders discounts useless to us and the UK just takes too damn long. So really I was only ever going to be maybe getting it a bit cheaper from Timcent than his starting price. He may or may not drop the price but I just said **** it, I want it ASAP so I can put it behind me and forget about it like you said. Of course if the price ends up dropping by 100-200 in a short time then yes I suppose I'll be shaking my fist.

Yeah IF the price suddenly drops between now and me getting mine from a UK seller (ouch!!) then I'll go into temporary rage mode. But I don't see it happening that quickly and besides as we both said, IF it does then neither one of us (or any UK buyer) is going to see that deep a discount regardless.

If you're ordering the double set (I have) then shipping will be more expensive, customs are more likely to inspect it etc. So the additional cost is almost certain.

No matter which way you pick this up, either discounted or otherwise, the re-saleable value won't decrease very much once Hot Toys pull the inevitable plug (as is the norm with all of these figures) and they may very well pull it sooner than we would like if sales figures aren't so great in China.

Cannot wait :) thanks for replying a-dev.

I'm a hardcore Robocop fan, but if I can save anywhere between $60-$150, I will. I hate throwing money away or having that awful feeling of "damn, I should have just waited" that has been prevalent with the Hot Toys figures I buy these days. Say I buy this as soon as Sideshow receives it, BAM, I own it for $450. After about a month, or hell, maybe a week, it will slowly become "old news", they'll be appreciated, but catalogued figures in my collection. Then not long after, I'll see this thread bustling with people that scored it for $330, $340, 350 (or in the case of Robo and the chair recently, ****ing $290) and feel like a moron. Sideshow, BBTS, eBay are still sitting on Robocop, Robocop w/chair, Stormtroopers, Captain America two-packs, Battle Damaged Terminator, Batman Armory (all three sets), ASM2, Marvel, etc. I don't think these guys are going anywhere, especially with the plethora of Star Wars and Avengers that are on the way. Things that will no doubt distract people from this.

I can wait. I have the MMS 204, I have another that I built up "cheap" for the partial BD look, I have all the NECA releases. For now, I can live through the pictures of the folks that own it. Get an idea of what I'm in for and I'll experience towards the end of the year.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Other figures that were release all on 1 day:

Stormtroopers
Ichabod Crane
Gamora
Batman Arkham
Groot and Rocket
Marty McFly

The fan base for those lines are just very small in HK as what UK/ USA deem to be classics like Star Wars, Back To The Future, Robocop just don't have the appeal in Asia.

Could there be an age factor? is the average US collector older than the average Asian collector, and so knows the older "classics" from first hand experience whereas the typical Asian collector only knew e.g. the SW prequel movies from when he grew up?

Btw I don't think there needs to be any justification as to why Asian collectors don't seem to go for what are considered by Americans to be "classics" - people like what they like. But it is interesting to talk about why certain lines appeal more in different countries.

I can't argue with this at all, in fact, you talked me into canceling it

Every ht I have ever bought, I could have gotten cheaper with patience(aside for the two I bought when I first got into collecting)
And to be honest, my excitement just isn't the same now as it was
I still want this, and the Arnie commando, but that's about it

Another point!

This RoboMurphy Set is the last thing I plan to buy next to ThreeZs Chappie.
As good as the SW Stuff looks, it's too obvious a milking machine and I am not interested in that or any Marvel stuff...

I am wondering what HT could come up with that would make me order it...

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Everyone is different I guess. For me the impact of one Robocop in my collection is greater than diluting with three. I never had a want/desire for a Murphy figure and Robocop (clean) which I have seen several times in store still does nothing for me. Like I said...."Everyone is different I guess". :duff

Oh yes of course. I mean no one should push a figure on someone. Figure-pushers!!! My own excitement for this figure will not be yours, for a multitude of reasons. A lot of ppl give their left arm for the newest Avenger or Iron Man. What is "essential" to a collector is completely subjective. Fashion your collection to how you see fit.

I love this set but never preordered. Same as what others are saying. There's really little reason to preorder anything that isn't SS Exclusive version or 'Toy Fairs/Movie Promo' Iron Man. They either over produce everything now or there just isn't as much interest in lines like Robocop or even the Nolan Batman stuff anymore. (Hoping by Thanksgiving I can score this set and Batsignal set combined for under $800 and double RP.) Hell I am dying for Darth Vader and Iron Whiplash too but since there's no exclusive I can wait on those too knowing there will likely be an abundance in stock. With a wife, kid and a house I've gotta save the bucks wherever I can in this hobby!

im not sure what else they could put out, I gotta give them credit as they have done a good job of covering all of my top characters

yeah, I don't even want to do the math and see how much money I could have saved by having patience
Would easily cover the cost of this 2 pack and then some

I know it. There are even some figures I got early from HK that I could've gotten so much cheaper later. I used to be so impatient in this hobby. Now you look at SS's inventory and they have stuff that released over a year ago. They probably only cleared out the Red Snapper and BR Joker inventory with tons of giveaways and severe discounts. I can't even imagine how many Bat armory or Robo and chair sets they have left. They even have a bunch of IM figures that aren't selling out! There's definitely little incentive to preorder when you see how much better a deal all this is a few months after the inventory comes in.

Yep I agree- with PATIENCE you can score these HTs and more for a pretty large break in price. Look how many Cap/Steve two packs are out there FS for $275- now that is a bargain (for example)

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

Any pics alongside the original diecast release yet? I'd be curious to see how the color compares. They're both silver obviously, but all of the grime on this edition should go a long way in toning it down.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

This will be my most expensive figure. I am going to put its heavy price down to “actor likeness”. From my signature below I don’t think I could have purchased anyone of the bigger license for a discount a year plus later. I only buy one or two HT figures a year so the waiting between figures is extensive. Since this is a figure I need in my collection I will not hesitate or delay purchase. Being fully aware that it can be discounted down the road.

Same. I am not an extensive 'collector' and only purchase when something VERY specific pops up. Basically it has to be something iconic and it has to look the part, otherwise I will skip it (all the Avengers stuff, although brilliant, simply isn't for me). So like yourself, I won't wait for the very unlikely (for us in the UK) reasonable discounts.

I never noticed how much Robo-Murphy looks like Rumor Willis.
