They did Blake. Freaking Blake. Just how "memorable" was he? That's right, he was as lame as Depp in Mortdecai.

If Blake got a figure, the sky is the limit as far as obscure characters go.

There are some key differences with that character. The Nolan Batman figures selling well was the biggest factor obviously. Plus they also paired the character with something fans wanted (the Bat Signal) or put it in a two pack with Gordon who a lot of people wanted. Plus Joseph Gordon Levitt being a popular modern actor probably didn't hurt matters.

A character like Clarence Boddicker is way more obscure except to the most diehard of Robocop fans. Especially factoring in that this two pack isn't much in demand in the Asian market even less people would probably pay Hot Toys prices for a Boddicker. Doing Robocop himself in both the clean and battle damaged versions made more sense because he's more recognizable. Same goes for ED-209 or at the very least it's a cool robotic design. We probably never would have gotten Murphy as a stand alone figure and I'm sure the only reason he was made was because Hot Toys took advantage of gaining Weller's likeness rights.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's the case. Clearing Weller's likeness probably made optioning the cop gear Murphy figure a lot easier. I'm sure for Hot Toys they figured it was a win-win too in that they could use the likeness twice in one set and give fans two figures.

I'm guessing they had to pay almost Jack Nicholson amounts of royalties for Peter Wellers likeness.

The reason being, from McFarlane to Neca, no one has attempted to do an unmasked Robocop. There must be a reason for this, like asking for absurd amounts of money that dissuades Toy makers from acquiring it.

The Murphy figure... well.. since they spent all that money ANYWAYS, why not use it for what its worth right? At least its not DX14 Mime Joker amounts of absurd milking/

Plus if that is the case what else were they going to use his likeness for anyways? It makes sense that if they paid up to use his likeness that they'd want to get whatever they could out of it. Especially considering that the Murphy figure was probably fairly simple to do as there's not much to his outfit really.

Re: Hot Toys "RoboCop (Battle Damaged Ver) & Alex Murphy Collectible Figures Set

There is already reply comments on youtube to this effect but Neny seemed to forget that Robocop does use that huge cannon to blow up ED-209. So its inclusion here makes perfect sense and is most likely not an indication that HT has plans for Clarence Boddicker as he suggests in the video.

There's a pretty good chance Clarence would be the first figure in HT history to move ZERO units in Asia. :lol

Great review. Totally agree BD version is more "interesting to look at"!! The shiny Robocop bugs me even more compared to the BD.

Paint is much better than chromocop

Let's be honest, folks: the world needs a Kurtwod Smith action figure.

Yep. I'm sure they hope to sell at least some of any given figure to their local collector base. Clarence would bomb for sure. And too many US guys would probably refuse to pay full price for him so :lol

Indeed. Paint looks a lot better on this one even if you pretend the battle-damage isn't there, it looks to be a more correct colour. Also congrats on the success of your plan with the spare MMS202 head. I'm still not sure how it is done but, going by the recent pic it seems like it can be. The neck and collar pieces (aswell as the head) can be swapped?

Looks amazing in both those videos. It will definitely be my figure of 2015.

I will say that seeing it next to the bright MMS 202 triggered some OCD. :lol

Thank you. I'll let you know how it goes. (might be in a month though) whenever Sideshow gets theirs!!

Same, without a doubt. And I see you have restored your avatar and sig. I saw a different avatar yesterday, was that a pic of you?

Wait, did you say you bought the full head of an MMS202? So not just the BD helmet part.....because that alone wouldn't work, I'm sure you must know.

Just thinking though, you won't have the black collar piece....

I bought a set which included the head, both helmets and all four mouth peices!

Maybe we should tell Howard that Clarence Boddicker is actually Tony Stark's great-great-grandfather, Phineas Stark. He's going to be appearing in an Iron Man prequel. Really. ;)

That's funny. It triggered something else in me - unrepentant, unnerving, uncontrollable rage. :lol
