Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

If old Ben were on a better body I don't think he could be topped.

The head sculpt is fantastic, the outfit is very good but the paint is still disapointing, far too shiney and a bit flat in places. If it'd been done on a base skin-toned head, it could have elevated it from the work of art it is, to a masterpiece!

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Hot Toys is the ^^^^ but my favorite line right now is Sideshow's The Dead.
And that's a line only Sideshow could do well thanks to the Buck body (which is perfect for Zombies).

Yep. It would be more like Gandalf in that regard.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

I love Hot toys, but they are pricey. But for some figs they cant be beat for detail and overall quality.

Sideshow's new troopers and Darth look awesome though from what ive seen, and i cant really see them getting much better tbh.

I could be wrong though:monkey1

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

People already complain about spending $70 for a wicked AOTC Obi-Wan. I don't think anyone would be happy to pay close to $200 each for a collection as big as SSC's. Don't forget that in three years we got, what, 30 figures. That would be $2,000 a year for Hot Toys.

Don't get me wrong, Hot Toys make remarkable figures, but I'm not about to pick and choose with the 12" Star Wars line, and SSC is doing a phenomenal job.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

IMHO, Hot Toys' Bank Robber Joker is at least as worth $150 as Sideshow's AOTC Obi-Wan is worth $70. :lecture

In these cases, you get what you pay for. The Hot Toys figure is infinitely more detailed and realistic and I for one am more than happy to pay for such. Just as I was happy to pay $50 for Sideshow's SW figures over Hasbro's $20 mass market items. Different leagues.

I don't need Hot Toys to make every SW character is 1:6. Just the main ones, and particularly Chewie and the droids... because they would knock Sideshow's socks off on those.

Re: Sideshow or Hot Toys for SW 12 inch?

Aye for single chars like Chewie n Droids yeah Hot Toys could do an awesome job, and they would be worth the extra money for a single char. I love the SS prices for items like troopers which i want loads of, and they do look good. I couldnt afford to buy 2 or 4 of all the trooper types if it was Hot Toys selling em.

I cant wait to get my 4 SS Stormtroopers, Vader, Stormtrooper Commander, 212th Utapau Clone Trooper, and my Hot Toys Iron man MK III and Golden Army Hellboy:D. For me its been a delicious year for figs, role on next year.

Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

HT answers the big question?

10) If the Hot Toys artists could work on any license or property and make 1:6 scale figures of it, what would it be and why?

HT: Definitely Star Wars, most of our artists and staff are big fans of Star Wars movies. If Hot Toys can work on the Star Wars line, fans could have chance to see the Star Wars collectibles in next quality level.

they already stated this in a sideshow video interview with Klauder a few months ago

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

I'm sure there are plenty of people will be willing to pay $200 for a 12" figure

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

The answer to the question , does not give any hints that HT may get a chance. It would be great if they did, but with SS and Medi, having the license, its highly improbable that we would see HT make Star Wars figures, at least not in the near future.

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

HT have helped in the design of the Imperial line with SS have they not?

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

I could see Hot Toys brought in to make C-3PO, R2, and Chewbacca but I don't see them producing any human figures.

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

This is a misleading Title...
they are saying what they would like to do...
the only chance they have is if SS requests for their involvement...

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

Actually no. Hasbro has the domestic license which they are leasing out to SSC. We don't know the terms but Hasbro has the Star Wars license until 2018 so a lot can happen in 10 more years, they could farm out the license to HT if they do desire.

What is more likely to occur then that is that MediCom has the international license which is why you see them making 1/6 figures as well. Now those Medi figures are imports stateside just like ours are over there, looking at licenses like TDK and Pirates, etc. Its pretty clear that LFL if they wanted to could split the license or even give it directly to HT (International I mean) and HT could be in the 1/6 game without question. The thing is what you'll most likely see is the same as the HT TDK figures where they are supposed to be sold retail in Asia and have to be imported via official dealers to the states because DCD is making figures here. So you probably will see SSC not import these to not create direct competition on their own site if it were to happen sooner than later.

Also look at the recent trend....SSC has been moving away from 1/6 for a while. The fact that HT has POTA and HB are just two more blantant signs of that. I could envision HT buying the lease from SSC and producing 1/6 while SSC continue to create PFs, Dios, etc. That is probably the most likely scenario than the two above. If HT were to abosrb the license you know they'd be as expansive as possible and their love for variants means not only would we get Yulli sculpting Luke, Anakin, Obi-Wan, etc but you'd also probably get a Bespin Luke and then a BD Bespin Luke with facial damage and missing a hand, weathered clothing, etc.

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

It would be great if they did but there is nothing in that which says they are.

Pixletwin would like to make Star Wars figures too. That doesn't mean Sideshow is giving me the license. :lol

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

i would really love to see this happen. the only thing that stinks is hot toys love for the variants and i could really only afford to buy a couple of these every once in a while. i would really love to see them do the human characters like luke and han. i would really like to see them fully realized in 1/6 scale done in the likes of br joker. that would be amazing.

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

As soon as SS is done with their armoured figures, (which won't be long) I'll bet that HT get's the license, maybe sooner than that. There's just too much money to be made with the SW license.

Re: Hot Toys may get a shot at StarWars!!

Done with armor soon? LOL, they are just getting started. I don't see HT getting the license, but I do see them continue to work with SS on it.
