Hot Toys TDKR: 1/4th scale Batman [QS001] - Full Reveal & Specs

$58 + shipping from Tony Mei. I just asked him last week. Then I decided to sit down and and take my time with the stock cape. I got it to lay down pretty flush and no longer feel the need to get a third party cape.

Great shot man. I really love NECA Arkham Origins Batman. Doesn't look like a $100 figure next to HT's which is $465.

And speaking of $465 -- at that price, a good cape is a must and must come in its box, never a custom one.

No, they are not.

$60 for a piece of fabric is silly. Just play with the stock one and you'll be fine.

Thank you fran & Royce :yess: :hi5:

I think tony mei made some with wiring. I think theres some other dude that makes then with wiring around here. Either get a hold of lforigno on these boards or ebay, or buy some black velvet and make your own. It'll look miles better than the stock cape regardless of how much futzing it gets.

Even better guys, go to a local material store, get a metre of black material that drapes nicely is soft doesn't crease and is a deep black, use the hot toys as a template, cut the material and make your own. I have made custom capes for two 1:4 batman and the dx12 with £7 worth of material.

Finally; someone with sense.

....That you charge $60 dollars for..? :dunno :lol

Touché :lol

Tony's custom work is pretty expensive, but in his defense, it's not the fabric we're paying for, it's the craftsmanship. For anyone who's purchased any of his work, I think you'd agree that his products are superior in regards to materials, craftsmanship, design and accuracy. To a lot of collectors, that's what makes his products worth that price jump. To other collectors, nothing could make a small piece of fabric worth $60. They're not for everyone... but to each his own. :peace

the origin of cape maker

I have purchase cape from other maker from the past for around the same price, and when the cape arrived, it was a piece of a fabric cut out like a bat shape. I was very disappointed..... then I decide to make it myself. didn't take too long, people start to ask us for our capes, then Crystal and I offer our service from there on.

our cape fabric is heavier, drape better, also all edges are sealed, and sewed lines to create more natural wrinkles at the insert. Depends where you live, the price of shipping can varies..... (gas goes up every year, along with shipping)

for those who own one of our work could clearly say its not just a piece of fabric (lots of detail and effort were shown on the cape) but for those who does not own one of our capes, feel free to duplicated our work. I know there is a guy here that pretty much copy everything we made (cape, pattern, poses, pictures, and even names?....etc) and sell it for cheaper price over sea......

as for $60? it must be a wire cape, but our regular cape is no where near that price : )

this is the last year we are offering this service, I do not really care who want to take on or copy this cape business, feel free to : )

while decide to make a cape of your own from scratch.... which involved
- passion and skills
- visiting official Dark Knight costume many times from many different locations (ticket alone and gas is out of our own pocket)
- actually see the cape with my own eyes and felt it with my own hands
- amount of time studying the cape from the movie pause and play over and over
- creating your own patterns (after many trail and errors)
- all edges are smoothly cut
- making sure the length of the cape looks like how the movies appeared
- quality fabric material and sealed
- wire cape (movie accurate fabric)
- packaged and service
- time making them our of our daily schedule

after all these steps, what price would you put on the market if people ask for your time and service?

^Nicely put, Tony. I never really understood what all the fuss was about when I first heard about your custom work. It wasn't until after I got your custom DX09 Batman cape that I really appreciated how much work you actually put into your capes. Also, didn't know this was the last year you're offering your services... For those who have never purchased any of TM's work, you should try to at least pick up one piece that you really want. Trust me, once you get a custom piece and see how much it enhances your favorite collectible, you'll understand why he's got so many return customers.

Great post. Custom and aftermarket work is not for everyone. Some think it's a waste of money, others think it's money well-spent.

If I could cut out my own cape and be satisfied with the result I would but I can't and I wouldn't. That's why I went with a TM cape. As you stated, to each their own. No one's forcing anyone to buy anything.

Agreed. It really depends on what you want it for. If I plan on having my cape drape straight down, I have no problem using the stock and futzing around with it. People who say a custom is a MUST-have are wrong, many people prefer it but it's not completely mandatory if you have the patience and KNOW-how to futz around with the stock capes. I bought a TonyMei wired cape for that purpose, to be able to pose it for a nice action effect for my DX12 on the Batpod. I plan on getting the Begins cape and the new battle length cape because I want my Begins suit Batman to have the cape drape over his shoulders/chest for screen-accuracy when he is talking with Rachel in the cave, and so I can have a screen-accurate look for when he fights Bane in TDKR. It depends on how you plan on displaying him, but by no means are customs a MUST-HAVE. They may be preferable to people but I feel it's also a slap in the face to those who take their time to futz around with the stock cape when people say it's absolutely necessary. Just my 2 cents.
