Just got my Artisan today and did a quick unboxing before getting back to work.
If this was the only modern TDK Joker in existence, I’d be pretty happy with it. Though, I still have the same problems with this as I’ve always had. But, I don’t regret the purchase at all. Of the two artisan figures I own, Jack Sparrow is the more impressive one.
To me, looks like HT fixed the top button placement and visible clasp on the vest. Mine looks fine. Speaking of the tailoring, aside from the tie, the tailoring on this above any previous official TDK Joker including InArt’s. Only thing I want to use from InArt’s clothing are the pants and suspenders. I’ll definitely get a second purple coat to remove the grenade rig. The blazer is the best of all the official ones. The lapels on the purple coat also don’t appear as wide or curved as the prototype which is a plus in being closer to accurate. The gold pocket chain is weathered instead of looking fresh and shiny. All the materials seem very thin and well scaled down. I’d argue this is the current best mass produced clothing set until we see what JND’s final version looks like after the recall.
I really do like the gloved hands. I just wish there were more and/or better gestures. I’m almost positive that HT will make another, probably interrogation version with seamless arms/wrists. Wouldn’t surprise me if they included new gloved hands as well in that package.
The shoes are one of my favorite parts. I love that HT managed to get the full ankle look in the sock while also maintaining full, ball joint ankle articulation. Most customs seems to just socket into the leg joint but don’t really allow for mobility/articulation. I definitely chose these shoes over the InArt and WonderWorld custom ones I have.
The hair on mine isn’t lime green thankfully. But, there also isn’t much variance in color. It’s very fine looking hair and not as wirey or full as InArts but still not thin enough to be accurate to Ledger. Just like most InArt rooted figures, this will take some doing to get the style correct. Mine also has the seam near the hairline which is unforgivable and doesn’t blend in well up close. Far away it looks fine, but sucks knowing it’s there. Not really sure how to fix that other than maybe a bead of glue to fill the gap and then paint, but this is not something that should be necessary in the slightest at this price point. I’m sure the InArt 2.0 will be handled much better than this. I will definitely be getting the sculpted headsculpt parted out. While the artisan is probably better for potential resale, perceived value and “rarity,” I think the sculpted hair version is the real winner and will probably be the one I actually display, especially if I can’t get the rooted hair looking how I want.
Paint work is nicely done and looks more like make up, to me. Maybe it’s just my eyes, but I’m not seeing the dot matrix on the paint in the way it was shown on the imposter version if I’m remembering correctly.
The eyes are pita to get to and not as easy to manipulate as the InArt. They look great and real enough.
The base is fine and better than InArt’s but I’m not sure I’ll be displaying it. I prefer something sleeker and already have a base on hand to use.
I’ll be selling parts of my InArt set to use with this as I can’t see needing both and then will probably sell this one whenever InArt’s 2.0 comes out.
In the end, happy to have the HT figure.
