I got my Tumbler for $380 shipped, so no, it's not unreasonable.

But HT is.

As I've said before, HT needs to quit looking at ebay and price their product more in line with its actual value. Take the re-release of the IRON MAN Mk.I for example. I got the original for under $100, and now HT puts it back on the market with minimal upgrades, and will charge 100% more for it. That's a level of confiscatory pricing that makes it easy for me to walk away from.

I agree, but for manufacturers in the collectibles industry, it's got to be frustrating to spend time, money, talent and effort to create a product, sell it for a reasonable price based on what went into it, and then see people profit several times its list value on the secondary market. I can see why they'd want to narrow the gap somewhat.

But the people who don't bat an eye at spending $1,200 on eBay for a toy car that originally cost $350 do not represent all of Hot Toys' customer base. In fact I'm sure they represent but a small minority. Just because a few people are willing to throw around that kind of money for grown-up toys doesn't mean Hot Toys can treat all of their customers like they have bottomless pockets.

I agreed with you 100%!

I hope HT don't get too freaking greedy on this.

If they do, than I hope someone in China will copy and sell imitate version of this model for cheaps!

:goodpost:Exactly! Three guys on ebay selling a tumbler for $1,200 to some bottomless pocket loon is not how Hot Toys should do business. Ultimately they need to sell a certain quantity in order to make a good profit, it will be a mistake to move anywhere near "long sold out" after market prices for their price point on new items.

And comments like the poster above is exactly why the prices for these figures keep going up, they know SOME people will pay up regardless :slap

Well, I did say I agree...I don't like the way it is, and I hate scalpers, but like it or not, they probably contribute to putting upwards pressure on the original price of collectibles. As time goes by, it's natural that HT prices would increase (inflation, cost of materials, cost of talent, etc)...but the rate of increase lately feels like it is beyond that natural curve, and I can't help feeling ebay has a lot to do with it.

I would say the reason that the prices go for daft money on the Tumbler is because not many people sell them :exactly:

Not many for sale with a lot of people wanting one = higher prices simple really, And this will go the same way in time :impatient:

So they are two thing peeps can do... Buy on release for around 5/600$

Or whine about the price sit on the fence and miss out only to post and whine even more a few years later on how much they sell for on ebay/and forums.

This will be a grail machine in the future You can bank on that mister.:peace

Would you purchase a new Tumbler for $500 if you had the chance to now or pass??

You are all right.. $500 for a reatail action figure is the top at this moment, even for a 1/6 plastic car. If Hot Toys sale this Batmobile, or the Tumbler, for more than $500 just a few are going to buy, the only who are going to buy are these people from eBay who expend $1500 on figures.. those are... how much? 30 in the entire world??? The rest of us are not going to expend that much on a plastic car, as much as we love Batmobile

It will be more than $500 (i'm thinking $700 or so) and it WILL sell out.
Eventually, sure. Because the quantity built will be driven by how many pre-orders they receive. Knowing they can build and profit from this thing at $500 (it's too simple of a piece not to, regardless of size), is it better to sell 2,000 of the things at $800 a piece, or 6,000 of the things at $500 a piece? (Hint: the latter makes them more money).

Well the thing is, many people who may not even be that into this hobby, appear to have caught onto the HT fad and buy the releases in bulk at preorder just to flip them later. This is happening all over Asia at the moment.

So I think they will actually be able to sell a pretty large amount of these even at $700 or $800, just because there's enough people with mad cash out there that will simply buy to flip

And the flip on this Batmobile could be insane... worst case, they'll just make their money back. It's not a bad risk to trade

Buying up in bulk won't work for flippers anymore. Figures no longer sell out during pre-order, like they used to. The Pre-order process now appears to be an open tab, and Hot Toys just manufacturer's how many ever orders they get, and then some.

You can go to Big Bad Toy Store's site right now and buy the DX Captain Jack Sparrow or Captain America, both in stock and on discount. Any one who is buying Hot Toys' merchandise in bulk these days with the intent to sell them for big profit is likely going to lose big.

I still think this will be $499 or $599 at the most. Will shall see.

Yes I see your point and that is a good thing too, however, I just don't see this being priced at $500 given that figures cost over $200 now

They will make over 2000 piece of this thing. So they batter put the price low!!
$500 still make $1000000!!!!

At $500 I'd buy it, above that I'd have to pass...

I'm hoping it's comparable with the IM gantry, while the Batmobile is large and bulking, assembly would be easier and faster than the gantry, which should cut down on overal expense. Labor costs would be greater than manufacturing costs.

Size vs complexity

I want them to price at $399, that way, you, me, everyone can get one!

This thing will be in a large box. It might not weight a lot but my guess is whatever the final price shipping will add another $50+ to the final price.
For example I was pricing the SS Dewback and shipping for me on that is $44.00.:(
