Wow, I was in Target last night and there was literally not a single DOFP piece of merchandise that I saw. Not one toy, sticker book, or even junior novelization. It's like the movie simply doesn't exist. :lol

I wonder if there is something to the Marvel/Fox spat. I can't imagine that the nudity/f-bombs helped DOFP's marketing cause much either.

That's beyond ridiculous. They definitely made a good point in one of the earlier posted articles: "a fan who enjoyed Days Of Future Past would step into a comic shop (or any shop for that matter) right now and find X-Men comics that have NOTHING in common with what they just saw on the big screen". I guess they would just expect fans to go get the TPB of the original Days of Future Past.

So I am right here, Fox has the movie rights to X-Men and makes money form any merchandising but can't/won't make any merchandising themselves. Marvel can make the merchandise or licence it out but won't because it makes more money for Fox than for them...does that about sum it up?

So we are left in the position that Hot Toys can't make figures from the movie because Marvel won't sell them a licence?

I would assume also that Marvel/Disney is/has put presure of some sort on Hot Toys not to produce any figures form "X Men First Class" to which Hot Toys has a licence? which would be strange considering they sold the licence in the first place.

Or is it all just because Hot Toys don't like the X-Men?

To be honest it's all rather confusing.

Fox doesnt have merchandise rights I don't think. It's Marvel's decision I believe and they are just saying 'NO' to X-Men stuff so that Toy makers will focus on properties like Guardians of the Galaxy, Iron Man etc.... to which Marvel do own

I'm looking into doing custom head sculpts and outfits for the flight suit versions of Mags and Prof. X from First Class. Post here if you might be interested:

https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/...44806-Interest-in-Classy-Mutie-Custom-Figures

Cost would be higher than Hot Toys, and you might have to do some legwork putting the figure together, but it could be an option if there is sufficient interest, and if I can get the tailor on board when the time comes around.

would be nice to see how these turn out

In this regard it's not just about "what sells", it's about what the studios want to show off as "the thing" that kids should go for

I don't know, if I'm in the business of making toys, I'm going to focus more on what I think will sell and less on what I think won't.

I just feel that with so many characters in the movie, and most of them for very little time, kids don't feel very attached to any of them. Two of the main characters in the movie are just guys in regular clothes for most of the movie, except when Magneto has his costume on at the end.

Mystique is basically a naked woman, I can see plenty of parents shying away from that toy. ;)

Again, I'm talking toys here, not adult collectibles like HT. As far as HT goes, if they don't even make Wolverine.....then I'd say something is going on.

:goodpost: Agree with everything. Hoping for a DOFP Wolverine but I'll get The Wolverine figure if that is the only decent way to add him to my collection.

And that's the one problem with Hot Toys making a DOFP Wolverine.....they've already released TWO different Wolverine figures in the last year, and I don't exactly get the impression that either of them were huge sellers. If that's the case, I would think twice about doing yet another one so soon. I'm sure he'll be in Apocalypse, and it's very likely there will be another Wolverine movie, so they may wait until then?

I'm with you. The Wolverine had toys last year, and they were primarily comic designs even though they were technically associated with the movie. That suggests three things to me: 1) Fox X-films can and are licensed to major toy companies; 2) those toy companies prefer to stay as far away from movie designs as possible even when they employ those licenses; and 3) even then the figures probably didn't sell very well, or we might have gotten DOFP figures this year.

And again, DOFP figures are being made, just by Diamond, which is probably only doing it because the costs are relatively low and profit potential is relatively high, like that company no one ever heard of doing Robocop figures.

The Fantastic Four thing seems to be feeding everyone's worst (or best if you're a Marvel Studios sycophant) fears regarding any and all merchandising. But the evidence just isn't very compelling to me at the moment, no disrespect to the great and wise Rob Liefeld.

Seeing as Marvel is still in charge of all merchandise that comes from these movies, they're probably limiting the amount of merchandising they do for it, as not to publicise competitor movies.

They've allegedly cancelled 2 runs of fantastic four comics for this very reason

Yeah, I read that Marvel put a freeze on all X-Men merchandise as well, which is why I don't think we'll be seeing anything from Hot Toys. Kind of a **** move but makes business sense I guess.

unfortunate yes it makes perfect business sense but who gives a flying fart :dunno
shareholders? :lol

I personally don't think the X-Men film toys have sold that well in the past, they basically stopped making them after X2. If licensees were making serious coin they'd be throwing money at Marvel to get their attention, hasn't seemed to be the case even before FC. As for no other promotional tie-ins, Marvel and Fox haven't gotten along in years, so Marvel's probably going to support Fox at the bare minimum, in this case not lifting a finger on tie-ins. Fox certainly can do it themselves, they did the Carls Jr TV spots for DOFP, maybe they should get off asses instead of waiting for Marvel.

As for HT, they sell on such limited quantities to adult collectors (not even a blip on the radar), I wouldn't be shocked if Marvel was ok with them releasing a few DOFP figs.

This whole thing with fox/marvel seriously blows huge chunks! If it turns out to be real (which it seems to appear) , we just lost out on some really cool figures from 2 really good recent xmen movies as well as possibly those future ones as well. So disappointing. Im a huge xmen fan so this whole news thing is really making me so freaking pissed!

The previous Captain Americas took a while to sell out, one is still in-stock. Didn't halt them making two more

Loved the movie. I was however disappointed with the character designs/outfits. I watch movies these days thinking "How good would this look as a HT figure" and I thought that there were lots of low scores in this movie. Old school Wolverine and a Storm would be my only purchases from a movie overflowing with characters. Unfortunate.

Odd too that Diamond chose Mystique to make despite Fassy's huge fanbase. Fans tore into them on their Facebook when she was announced, citing they had already made Magneto in their Select line. Yeah, not Fassbender's Mags!

Spider-Man is so much better on his own, but I think the Avengers need some more history and more characters before Spidey joins. Ala, New Avengers. I would rather see Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Mockingbird, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, and many many more before the likes of Spidey and Wolverine join. I wouldn't mind him being part of the universe BUT don't make him an Avenger just yet.

Exactly.
