Re: New forum rule

I agree and that is the only problem with the new rule. The PM limitation. However, if the reason the forums keep slowing down and crashing is memory, it seems that upping the PM limit would only contribute to that.

But there must be someway to avoid it? OSW doesn't have a limit, nor does it seem to have the crash problem. I'm just saying, if one is going to be made to use the PM system it should be made available and convenient to everyone.

Re: New forum rule

I think this rule in general is aimed at weeding out people who are just coming here to sell lots of products w/o having a license to back them.

Even at top-end for customized figures I don't think Josh's full figures are at risk of financially crippling a license holder. But some of the custom/unlicensed statues could have a larger impact being they are made by a full studio. Could be wrong, but that seems the direction this rule is aimed at.

And, as has already been said; show the 1/6 work and then if people contact you to buy then no harm no foul. And if someone complains we'll call them out for being a douche :lol

I don't think utilizing an unlimited PM count would be a good idea either. Maybe upping the limit to 300-500 or so would be better. It would keep projects much more realistic too. The only problem I see is impatient douches PMing every day nagging about their projects and clogging up the inbox two weeks after commissioning them.

Seems like Dave's version of a 'don't ask, don't tell' type of policy.

You'd be surprised at how hard that concept is to grasp. :lol

I'm just saying that a larger PM box will double as a good record keeping log for who sells and who buys. being able to keep those PM's will be good if a dispute arises, you can just go back and look up your interaction with the other party.

Re: New forum rule

You can always download your PMs into text format.

Anyway, I liked some of Gordons rules a lot, but I'm a customer and not a customizer. I can see it laying probably more responsibility on the customizers than its worth to them and they'd end up leaving. :dunno

Re: New forum rule

You can keep PMs anyway. Just download them to your hard drive. Besides, if you are taking such a large workload, PMs would not be the way to go for keeping track of these things. I would think something more like a spread sheet would get the job done better.

Re: New forum rule

Go to your PM page and at the bottom it gives you a choice to download everything you have checked off.

OK, but at the risk of really being computer ignorant, oops too late, where do they download to? My computer or somewhere on the Freaks board?

Re: New forum rule

Let's keep this on track please - bickering in this thread is not productive.

There still seems to be some confusion about showing your custom work and selling multiple copies of same. We want to see 1/6 custom work, we always have and always will.

I've only noticed a couple of completed figure sales aimed at a large group on here - literally 2. Out of how many threads about individual's work, portrait commissions and other threads in here?- it really is less than 1% of the traffic.

I'm also backtracking on the 'take all commissions to PMs" - I put forth the commission tracker idea myself.

Re: New forum rule

I am really against these "death panels" you are proposing, Dave. Euthanasia for our old people is cruel and... wait... these are just empty fears and confusion? oh... well... hmmm... nevermind.

Re: New forum rule

Speaking, for myself, I'm not trying to bicker, just understand the change(s). If its just complete figures and statues that have to PM then let's just say that.

Re: New forum rule

I still say the Commission Tracker is a good idea.

It would help everyone (including newbs) have a one-stop place to see what's going on and what's available (instead of posting random "what if" threads)...

AND it could minimize the repeat projects between artists. In fact, artists could use this as a place to gauge interest in other characters from the same films (i.e. if someone is already making a Newt let's say then another artist could potentially offer a Gorman as a complimentary piece).

Not sure it should be implemented as a way for people to "chat" about payments and schedules though. The thread will fill up way too fast that way and any pertinent information will be buried.

Re: New forum rule

Dave, how about posting some example posts, to give everyone who's still having problems understanding, something to see so they know what you're talking about. :huh

A project coordinator could be in place for a lot of reasons - translating would be just one of them.

But again - I ask that if you're NOT a 1/6 customizer/collector - stay out of this thread - it doesn't concern you.
