i thought august had been mentioned previously ?? i cant see these being up for PO in august maybe sept, look how long it took for the Scarecrow/demon set to go up !!

If memory serves, Sideshow said after SDCC, and not in July. Recently, a Sideshow rep said they didn't know when it would go up exactly, but could be a couple of months away.

The htc ones are the photos with the cold white balance? The one you used in your comparison on the previous page? Those are fairly poor choices to compare with the official HT shot. Lighting aside, the photos aren't of the quality necessary to highlight small details in the paint application. I'm sure the small freckles and marks are still there and the shading on the forehead and cheeks are still present though not quite as obvious as it was on the HT shots.


Searching back through the past 20+ pages, I think this photo does the best job thus far of showing off the sculpt and paint. You can see that most, if not all the details from the proto are still present. Notice the slight shading on the cheeks and forehead.

Looks great.

Hairline is the only part that's noticeably different than the proto.

Classic bad photo syndrome.

Bad photos can make things look off, especially the human face. You probably can take 10 photos of yourself each looking different from the last.

Once more collectors have this and shoot it well, people rave on how perfect it is.

Yet over and over the same complaints that HT screwed up the proto will be made on every release when we all know very well by now that comparing a cell phone photo to a professional studio photo is like comparing your backyard bottle rocket to the damn Space Shuttle and it's all rather sad that people need to be reminded of this on every single release.

I'd say the same analogy applies to comparing JC Hong's work to HT factory workers

If you could place a % on the loss of quality from original artist to slave labor, I mean factory worker, what would it be.

50% less quality, 25% less, maybe 80% less, what would you score it.

Specifically this release.

I'm guessing a 20% loss in quality max.

Now, if the original artist wanted to sell me his masterpiece one of a kind proto, i'm sure it would cost a-lot more than what i'll be paying for the factory version with minimal loss of quality.

Even so, a bad photo taken is a bad photo taken.

If we take the same professional quality photo of the final release and compare it to the professional quality photo of the proto, then we all can appreciate and discuss the differences.

Not a bad reproduction by any means but certainly not in the same league as the proto.

More than anything though so far it's the size of the head that's bugging me. I think the Batman body has been appropriately upsized (Bale was pretty big in Begins) but the head simply does not look in scale with the body from pics seen so far.

Yes NO DOUBT an original painted JC Hong/Other brilliant painter one of a kind version would cost mutiples of this figure. That's not my point.

My point is people should always have expected a drop off in the quality of the final version from the proto. To me the proto's paint is so good it overcomes certain problems with the underlying sculpt. In the final version, from pics i've seen so far, the paint is of lower quality and therefore less able to bring out the likeness.

In other words the proto looks a lot more like Bale to me than the final from pics seen so far - totally accept your point about comparing pro shots to cell phone shots - will wait till we get better in hand pics or when I get the fig in hand myself for my final verdict.
