If I had to choose between regular or PERS, obviously I'd go with regular. Paint the eyes in a neutral position, unless you include an extra secondary head for like a Terminator, Batman or a character that you really focus on the eyes and I'm perfectly content.
That's been my argument for awhile now. Give figures two sculpts--one traditional expression, looking forward, and another that is more distinctive to the character (battle damaged, smirking, whatever) looking to the left or right. It works perfectly fine for the T-1000, and the Tech Noir Terminator (still one of my top 2 or 3 all time HT figures). I think the hype of the PERS gimmick has somehow taken on a life of its own, and folks aren't willing to consider that it isn't always the best solution. But whenever someone wants a new figure, they're all "PLEASE GIVE US A DX HOT TOYS! DX DARTH VADER, DX BOBA FETT, DX CYCLOPS!!" :lol

Yeah I have seen some really stupid DX requests on Facebook.

DX Darth Vader?
DX Robocop??
DX Iron Man???

What would be the point of those when they will most likely be displayed with their Helmets on?

PERS works best for very expressive characters like Joker, Jack Sparrow etc..

Well if Robocop had a removable helmet (a regular and damaged) with Weller/Alex Murphy under it PERS might be alright.

The face could just detach from the cybernetic/machine parts of the headsculpt.

That would be great if they went with a Battle Damaged look. Wish Peter Weller would sign off on his likeness dagnabbit.

i cant wait to get my hands on this figure! Heath ledgar outdid nicholson by a long shot!

BOBA FETT AND XENOMORPH DX FTW!

But seriously could you imagine the creepy of a predator DX?

For me it's all about aesthetics. I don't know how Jack Sparrow is but most of the DX figures I own have blatantly obvious seams on the back of their heads. '89 Batman, while having the best PERS eyes on a figure has this garish panel on the back of his head. It's the ONLY critique I have against an other wise perfect figure. There's really no reason why it couldn't have been done like the DX 02 which probably has the best hidden access.

Have you seen the upcoming DX 10 T-800? You can practically see inside the head, it's awful. Nicholson and Ledger, while not as bad aren't anything to write home about either.

Who cares if you can't see the back of the head while it's on display? A display is only part of the experience. Have you guys ever just, I don't know, admired a figure? Take it out and look at it? There's more to it than it's shelf life. That's like saying you'd only care if the clothes were tailored and cut from the front and wasn't complete on the back, sort of like a hospital gown. So you wouldn't care if your Batman or Joker had their ***** exposed on the back?

Oh, but nobody can see the back, who cares?

If it has to have PERS then I'm sure there's got to be a better way to access the feature without some robotic like panel on the back of the head.

PERS was a nice gimmick, it was fun in the beginning, but that's all it is, a gimmick. I could do without it. It's no better than old action figures I used to have where a giant button was sticking out of the figure's back to make it punch or kick. Not only did it look bad and throw off the realism of a figure, if it broke the whole figure would be ruined, just like PERS.

The Sparrow has a fully removable hair sculpt which completely hides any seams.

I guess I can understand peoples dislikes for the PERS who have a figure that has a blatantly obvious seam. Just like you can understand someone like me not having a problem with it when their only experience is with a figure that it was done well.

If my only experience with it was one with an obvious seam, or a failing system like the DX01, I would probably be on the hater boat too. Even if the seam was only noticeable from the back. I do "admire" mine once in a while so a seam would stand out like a sore thumb to me.

I have seen the prototype of the T-800 and the seam is hideous. I really hope they find a way to hide it on the final product as well as the DX01 2.0.

It's not just the seams, it's the potential for breakage. My DX01 broke and I only used it like 6 times. My DX08 has slightly crooked eyes now and I only used that ____ing thing TWICE!! ____ PERS.

Can see your frustration. Gotta admit my Jack Sparrow isn't perfect. The normal sculpt works great. But the smirking sculpt doesn't seem to have the range of motion as the regular. I found myself really babying it when adjusting for fear of something breaking. I just took the "set it and forget it" approach.

Honestly I don't think I'd mind as much if it was like EB's. Joystick for each eye. That way you can line them up nice and even and no worry of breakage.

Being new to the HT/EB game I wasn't aware that EB had an adjustable eye system. Learn something new every day.

Have EB used the adjustable eyes on any recent figures? I only have the Jack Bauer and 1/4 scale T-800 so I've never experienced theirs.

They did use adjustable eyes on their Mr. Bean figure, each eye had independent control.
