My explanation is that the Joker with make up on Looks strange and cartoony looking, this is why the DX head looks stupid IMO.

Thus, it is hard to see the actor underneath the make up easy. So basically what you are seeing is an illusion and if you try to create the strange looking character your seeing, you will not be able to capture the actor that makes the whole package come together.

You will be only be creating an image that you only see with make up but unable to capture the whole process that makes the character come together to look like the actor as well as the character.

I can see how someone could do an incredible Ledger Joker sculpt using both methods.

I know Adam uses the Actor first - Character later method and it works for him. I don't know for sure how HT do it but if they are indeed straight sculpting Joker then maybe that explains why they miss certain aspects of the likeness which the Adam sculpts capture very well.

Reserving judgment until I see more pictures and hopefully a second sculpt. Until then, I'm happy with this one:

I wouldn't worry about the paint color there is a filter over the picture and everything is darker including the suit so the paint will look nicer.

i see. but i think one of the reasons people say that as the joker heath ledger looked so different from how he normally does was not just the make up but the choices he made, i.e., hunching over, the way he moved his mouth, his eyes, everything together. if you try to capture the actor first and then just apply make-up you miss all that.

i think that's my one problem with some of adam's sculpts (e.g., the one crow posted). you couldn't ask for a better ledger likeness, but the joker part is missing something.

i see it this way. there's no way anyone could sculpt marlon brando and then add elements that made him don corleone. the things he did to portray the character changed his expression and face so much, he's almost an entirely different person. if i was sculpting him i'd start with screenshots and go from there.

Waits for BR to respond to this :impatient:

Sorry but J C Hong's repainted Bank Robber Joker disagrees

No it doesn't look at the long rectangular head on Hongs Joker, while I think the repaint is great there is no likeness there. Heath's face is not long or rectangular like the BRJ. The BRJ one's face is too long and not in proportion.

The DX cop Joker has the right face shape. Look this is the one painted by silent surfer compared to the real one. Also the DX clown one has the right face shape to. The only problem with the DX clown one is that it is not realistic like BRJ.

Awesome pics one of the best jokers around

Hmmm...after seeing (and buying) much better custom Jokers over the last few years, I was expecting a lot more from this...

:(

Ok so the 2nd head is conjecture. As for Yulli sculpting Heath first:

Hello!

Happy New Year~!
I want to say hello to you guys here!
Please be happy every day in this year! ^-^

For the past year, I have done quite a lot of sculpting and art direction works, but I think my sculpting is not good enough.^^ So today in 2012, I want to start again and do my job better and better.

For the most interesting works last year, number one is Jack Nicholson’s Joker.
This character is very funny and has a devil face. When I sculpt this kind of head, I must need to think two points: one is Jack Nicholson’s normal face before make-up; another one is Joker’s face after make-up.

If we only check the face after make-up, it is not good enough because it may only look like Joker, but not Jack Nicholson. So I check both normal and make-up faces very carefully when I do this job. And I got this idea after making Heath Ledger’s Joker head sculpt long time ago.

And here is a good angle to compare the sculpt

I like what I see overall but I have 2 main issues
1. Hair is still wrong
2. If you're using an expression from the interrogation scene (which I'm convinced it is), then paint the damn thing in that scheme! Of course they could give us another head with that scheme so let's see

Bullsheet!!! Yousa was a talkin' 'bout full specs and pics and yousa know it!:pfft:

I just said it was going to be a BIG night? Headsculpt is a pretty big deal, no? Look at the activity the pic alone has generated.

I WIN. :nana:

I wanted to be WOWed like I was with the clothes and I'm just not yet with what we've seen from the sculpt....It's decent and I think an improvement from the DX, if for no other reason than they've improved the PERS, but there's still some things left to be desired...looking forward to more pictures and specs.

If you look at any of the previous hot toys sculpts of the joker they look ok but there are far supior sculpts out there.heath ledger was the joker, with 3 small prosthetics and makeup on.a good headsculpt should look like heath ledger with small prosthetics and makeup on.I start by sculpting heath first ,no joker reference photos until I am adding scars and an expresion.if I was to take the makeup off and sand down the scars on any of the previous ht releases it looks nothing like heath.
