Really a missed opportunity, I agree Rory. It just really surprises me that the level of this figure is NOT up to HT's current standards. It is clearly less than what most of HT's figures currently are at. Yes, it's better than Sideshow's, but it has its own set of significant problems. Even likeness aside, I feel like the clothing and much of the accessories could have been better.

I think it's a particularly fine effort from HT and it looks like Ford to me. Bottom line it IS the best 1/6 Indy made...can it be better? Yes, but no figure from even HT is perfect..or even close...

If you are complaining about this HS, just have a gander at the Asia-Ford that UU Medi and Enterbay are releasing:slap what a piece of over-priced crap.

And unfortunately the cylinder from the revolver was missing. I'll try and contact Hot Toys and see if they can send me a replacement.

Sorry to hear your disappointment about this figure and that issue just makes it worst. :( Hope you'll get a replacement for it. Good luck! :wave

Well, I finally got my HT Indy and I have to say that it's pretty much how it looks in the bad pics. At least the one I got does. He looks marginally better in the day time. But once the room lights go on in the evening, it looks like how it does in the bad pictures--dark eyeliner, weird likeness, etc.

The jacket fits horribly. The body is much too buff for it, and it's hard to futz with the jacket because the sleeves are so tight on the huge arms. His shirt collar is too big, which also makes it hard to futz. What's worse is that the jacket collar is too small (or probably just right), so that incongruity between the small jacket collar sitting on top of the huge shirt collar makes it a PITA to fix. The bag strap, and particularly the gun holster feel very cheap. And I'm not loving the braided whip.

All that said, I'm not that disappointed in him because I pretty much could see all those deficiencies (except the quality of the bag strap and gun holster) through the photos here. So I knew just what to expect. The photos are pretty much accurate. The difference between real life and the pics is only slight.

Honesty the likeness doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. Like I said, it might be because I had already reconciled that from seeing all the photos. What bothers me most is the way the clothes fit. I'm having a hell of a time trying to get him to look good. Futzing with the Sideshow figure was not nearly as difficult.

I completely agree! I had the same thought about mine when it arrived. I know alot of people have shown repaints and mods of the sculpt, and while some have improved the likeness still none of them look like Ford to me...the mouth is just too wide on the original. The skintone on the original sculpt is terrible too IMO...no colour to it whatsoever so it looks dead...and that's a problem I've noticed with alot of HT figures- the painting technique with the texture etc is great but they need to alter their base colour or add other washes over the top.

Mine is posed in the Arab gear at the moment so the face isn't so noticeable but I had to switch the Indy body to a different HT body just so I could pose it like in the film. The arms of the wretched muscle body don't go past 90 degrees so I ditched it. Now mine can hold the staff of Ra alot closer to his chest just like in the film.

My biggest problem was the way the head looked from side...awful job by HT. Totally wrong profile for Indy, comical it's so bad.

But this one is FAR from close and borderline bad (in terms of likeness, and well actually a bunch of other stuff too).

For 250 I'm not asking for perfect but I'm asking for pretty damn good.. Why can't they F up non-important licenses like Baby dolls or Tron or whatever and bring it home with INDY of all things. As others said even if it had a better likeness I could forgive the bad parts, over sized bodies stiff poorly tailored jacket etc because there are enough awesome replacement options out there.

At least Superman and Jack Sparrow turned out great, all the more reason why I stand firmly behind saying this is one of Hot Toys poorest offerings in their history.

:exactly:

I didn't mean to start another onslaught of bashing, but I have to agree with most of these posts. And now that I actually have the figure in hand, I can tell you that it really isn't up to par, especially comparing it with Supes, Jack and even Cap (which I just got as well), and certainly should not have cost $250.

Still, it's an okay figure and at the end of the day, I'm glad I have it since I'm such a big Indy fan. But it just makes me sad to think it is completely within the realm of reality for it to have been so much better.

I still haven't been able to pull the trigger on this for the likeness issue you guys are bringing up, despite my wanting everything else the figure provides even with their flaws. I do want to hook this figure up with an awesome custom head sculpt, but am not sure how much money I'm willing to invest in order to have a decent Indy on the shelf.

I don't know, I like it. :dunno The price sucks but there are deals to be had on the FS forum. He's not as bad as he looks on here Sam.

I'm at the point where I'm only trying to buy stuff I can fund by selling old stuff, and I'm not sure that Indy is more desirable than anything else I would have to put up in the exchange.

Karamazov, I don't want to step on Deak's toes, but I have to say that yes, Indy does look like how he's photographed. He really does. Sometimes, under certain lighting conditions and maybe during the daytime in general, he could look a little better. But for the most part, what you have seen here is what you get.

However, you've seen many here defend the figure saying that it really doesn't look that bad in real life (like Deak). And because of that, I have to think that your own personal perception will play a HUGE role in what you think of Indy. So my advice is this: wait for a great bargain and get it. If, when you get it, it looks to you just how it does in the pictures, then no loss. You got what you were expecting. But if you happen to see something better in there, then you will be pleasantly surprised.

I do have to admit that looking at my SS Indy standing next to the HT Indy, HT Indy really does look better. I have loved my SS Indy. I have optimized him to a point where I was super happy with it, changing the body to the Pro 1.2, touching up his beard and eyes, getting some HT hands, futzing him, etc. But when I put it next to the HT Indy, I had to begrudgingly admit that HT's still looked better despite the bad likeness (and the little deficiencies here and there).

The real disappointment with this figure is the thought of what could have been, considering how awesome Supes and Jack came out.

Yup, I agree. The only thing I really enjoyed with this release, was changing and fixing it best I could. Absolutely HT's worst ever modern release IMO. They are going to plummet in price I would imagine.
Unless HT stopped making them at an early stage because of all the bad PR.

I would love if Butters could pop up now and tell us that they are going to look really, really good once they get dusty or something..

:lol

Oh, you meant the figure is dusty....

Totally and utterly seconded. :exactly::goodpost:

Not saying anyone's opinion is wrong, but I think a lot of the "better in hand" statements came out of initial excitement of having a new toy and opening him up etc.

Take alook at WGP (warrior Gate Productions) in the customs thread. They are doing Harrison Raiders replacement heads. The one they showed so far was a smiling Indiana Jones and it's pure Ford. Absolutely destroys this HT head.

If you want super greatness... I'd hit up Mfisher and Kato for their outfits and gear.

If you want decent I'd buy whatever HT parts you need off of toyanxiety and wait until some of the better replacement heads are out there.

Either way of you are on the fence and strapped for cash I'd definitely not consider buying this.

Thanks for the input. Part of me also just wants to wait to see how the WilliamShatner'sToupee sculpts look painted up. That could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
