seriously though - another AVP movie? whoever wins, we lose ... about $10 in a wasted ticket. i think they should stop with all these crap crossovers (leave em in the comics) and come up with some original ideas for films or do some individual franchise films. pred 3 could be amazing. and alien 5 would have been tremendous if 20th C Fox hadn't gone and raped the alien of all coolness turning it into little more than an ugly stormtrooper (come on, those guys were so crap at killing anything in ep 4).

AvP has great potential. I mean, you take the sophiscation, and terror of the Alien films, mixed with the fun, and action of the Predator films. Plus 2 of Hollywood's greatest monsters....you ask, what can go wrong?

"hollywood" can go wrong my friend. "hollywood" can. the only way this would be a decent film is if they got a decent team behind it. you'd need exceptional writers and a great director. sadly noone good would touch this with a barge pole. most of the very little money 20th C Fox has put into the last 2 films has gone into special FX, with next to nothing on actors or decent crew. and with them being junk i'm sure noone wants to be attached to a 3rd.

but i agree, there could have been potential. but they screw these things up bigtime hoping just the appeal of the 2 characters is going to bring enough people in, so they don't worry about what happens actually in the film. at the end of the day, they want to make as much money as they can.

For the Alien film I'd have Ripley wake up in her bed next to Hicks.
A phone call to Newt and Ripley finds out that Newt is now working for the company.
She (Newt) is working on the new android line...Bishop with real looking blood.
An Alien ship crashes on the Earth and then all hell breaks loose
Ripley,Newt and Hick and the newest "Bishop" set out to beat the aliens back into space.

I certainly like the idea of ignoring Alien 3 and Resurrection. Personally I liked the AVP movies better than those two.

Simple story. Aliens get loose on a ship, humans caught in the middle, fair fights, and make sure every character is developed well.

Although I was at first dissapointed when watching alien 3 that Hicks and Newt had died I do agree it made the series better.
This and other things finally made Ripley realise that there was no way to escape these creatures that had terrorized her for so long and the only way out was death thus the ending.
I don't really want to see a 5th alien movie but if it comes I don't want it to have anything to do with the old story. The same goes with predator , don't carry on anything.

the thing about this topic is it's an insight into what makes the AvP series so stupid.
it is fundamentally detrimental to coming up with original ideas for a movie.
everyone's first instinct is to rehash what's already been done in some form.
that's what crappy movies are made of... let it die.

If they can't, then yes. Let it die. But the thing is, there are some new ideas to explore that doesnt demistify the aliens. New team, new setting, new timeline. No old characters, few homages, and focus on the characters.

Nevertheless, whether there's Ripley or not, the movie must unravel the unsolved mystery of the Space jockey - thus the origin of the xenomorph. Otherwise it will just be another empty sci-fi / horror film.

hmm... this sounds like what i was thinking. i would have the marines in it though. nothing crazy, just a squad of marines on a ship for security reasons. maybe have the Predator tracking their ship because prospectors dug up some Alien eggs that are beginning to hatch and destroy the humans on the ship. then have the Predator board the ship to start hunting the Aliens down.
